A Greeting from Peter (1 Peter 1:1–2)
ULT Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the ones having received a faith equal in value with us, by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: BSB BSB: Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:
ULT May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. BSB BSB: Grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
Partakers of the Divine Nature 3 ULT As his divine power has given to us all the things for life and godliness through the knowledge of the one having called us through his glory and excellence, BSB BSB: His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.
ULT and now{ for} this same{ reason}, applying all diligence, supply in your faith, goodness; and in goodness, knowledge; BSB BSB: For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith virtue; and to virtue, knowledge;
ULT and in knowledge, self- control; and in self- control, endurance; and in endurance, godliness; BSB BSB: and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness;
ULT and in godliness, brotherly affection; and in brotherly affection, love. BSB BSB: and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.
ULT For these things existing and increasing in you cause you to be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: For if you possess these qualities and continue to grow in them, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
ULT For he in whom these things are not present is blind, nearsighted, having received forgetfulness of the cleansing of his past sins. BSB BSB: But whoever lacks these traits is nearsighted to the point of blindness, having forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.
ULT Therefore, brothers, be even more diligent to make your calling and election sure, for doing these things, you will certainly not ever stumble. BSB BSB: Therefore, brothers, strive to make your calling and election sure. For if you practice these things you will never stumble,
ULT For in this way will be richly provided to you the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: and you will receive a lavish reception into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
ULT Therefore, I will always remind you about these things, although you have known{ them} and have been established in the present truth. BSB BSB: Therefore I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are established in the truth you now have.
ULT But I think{ it is} right, as long as I am in this tent, to arouse you in remembrance, BSB BSB: I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of my body,
ULT knowing that the putting off of my tent is imminent, just as also our Lord Jesus Christ revealed this to me. BSB BSB: because I know that this tent will soon be laid aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.
ULT Likewise, I will be diligent to cause you to always have the remembrance of these things after my departure. BSB BSB: And I will make every effort to ensure that after my departure, you will be able to recall these things at all times.
Eyewitnesses of His Majesty (Matthew 17:1–13; Mark 9:1–13; Luke 9:28–36)
ULT For he has received honor and glory from God the Father, such a voice having been brought to him by the Majestic Glory:“This is my Son, my Beloved, in whom I myself am well pleased.” BSB BSB: For He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to Him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
ULT And we ourselves heard this voice, having been brought from heaven, being with him on the holy mountain. BSB BSB: And we ourselves heard this voice from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.
ULT And we have the very certain prophetic word, to which you do well to pay attention, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day might dawn and the morning star might rise in your hearts, BSB BSB: We also have the word of the prophets as confirmed beyond doubt. And you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
ULT knowing this first, that every prophecy of scripture does not come from one’ s own interpretation. BSB BSB: Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture comes from one’s own interpretation.
ULT For no prophecy was ever brought by the will of man, but men being carried along by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. BSB BSB: For no such prophecy was ever brought forth by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
