Preach the Word 1 ULT I declare before God and Christ Jesus, the one being about to judge living and dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: BSB BSB: I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of His appearing and His kingdom:
2 ULT Preach the word; stand by opportunely, inopportunely; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with all patience and teaching. BSB BSB: Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and encourage with every form of patient instruction.
3 ULT For there will be a time when they will not bear with the healthy teaching. Instead, they will heap up for themselves teachers according to their own desires, itching{ in} the ear, BSB BSB: For the time will come when men will not tolerate sound doctrine, but with itching ears they will gather around themselves teachers to suit their own desires.
4 ULT and they will turn the ear away from the truth and be turned away to the myths. BSB BSB: So they will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.
5 ULT But you, be sober in all things. Suffer hardship. Do the work of an evangelist. Fulfill your service. BSB BSB: But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
7 ULT I have fought the good fight; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith. BSB BSB: I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
8 ULT From now on, the crown of righteousness is reserved for me, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give to me on that day, and not only to me, but also to all the ones having loved his appearing. BSB BSB: From now on there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but to all who crave His appearing.
Personal Concerns 9 ULT Strive to come to me quickly, BSB BSB: Make every effort to come to me quickly,
10 ULT for Demas has forsaken me, having loved the present age, and has gone to Thessalonica, Crescens to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia. BSB BSB: because Demas, in his love of this world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia.
11 ULT Only Luke is with me. Taking Mark, bring{ him} with you, for he is useful to me for service. BSB BSB: Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, because he is useful to me in the ministry.
12 ULT But I sent Tychicus to Ephesus. BSB BSB: Tychicus, however, I have sent to Ephesus.
13 ULT The cloak that I left at Troas with Carpus, coming, bring, and the scrolls, especially the parchments. BSB BSB: When you come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas, and my scrolls, especially the parchments.
14 ULT Alexander the coppersmith showed many evils to me. The Lord will repay him according to his works, BSB BSB: Alexander the coppersmith did great harm to me. The Lord will repay him according to his deeds.
15 ULT whom you also guard yourself against, for he opposed our words very much. BSB BSB: You too should beware of him, for he has vigorously opposed our message.
The Lord Remains Faithful 16 ULT At my first defense, no one appeared with me, but all forsook me. May it not be reckoned against them. BSB BSB: At my first defense, no one stood with me, but everyone deserted me. May it not be charged against them.
17 ULT But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that through me the proclamation might be fulfilled and all the Gentiles might hear. And I was rescued out of the mouth of the lion. BSB BSB: But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the message would be fully proclaimed, and all the Gentiles would hear it. So I was delivered from the mouth of the lion.
18 ULT The Lord will rescue me from every evil work and will save{ me} for his heavenly kingdom. To him{ be} the glory forever{ and} ever. Amen. BSB BSB: And the Lord will rescue me from every evil action and bring me safely into His heavenly kingdom. To Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
