Clean and Unclean Animals (Leviticus 11:1–47; Acts 10:9–16)
ULT You{ are} the sons of Yahweh your God. Do not cut yourselves, and do not make a baldness between your eyes for the dead, BSB BSB: You are sons of the LORD your God; do not cut yourselves or shave your foreheads on behalf of the dead,
ULT for you{ are} a nation set apart for Yahweh your God, and Yahweh has chosen you to be a people for his possession, over all the peoples that are on the face of the earth. BSB BSB: for you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD has chosen you to be a people for His prized possession out of all the peoples on the face of the earth.
ULT Do not eat any abominable thing. BSB BSB: You must not eat any detestable thing.
ULT These{ are} the animals that you may eat: the ox, the sheep from the flock and the goat from the flock, BSB BSB: These are the animals that you may eat: The ox, the sheep, the goat,
ULT the deer and the gazelle and the roebuck and the wild goat and ibex and the antelope and the mountain sheep. BSB BSB: the deer, the gazelle, the roe deer, the wild goat, the ibex, the antelope, and the mountain sheep.
ULT And you may eat any animal among the animals parting the hoof or{ with} a cleft splitting{ into} two hooves, chewing the cud. BSB BSB: You may eat any animal that has a split hoof divided in two and that chews the cud.
ULT Despite this, from chewers of the cud and from splitters of the hoof, the cloven- footed, you must not eat: the camel and the rabbit and the rock badger, because they cause the cud to go up and do not part the hoof, they{ are} unclean to you. BSB BSB: But of those that chew the cud or have a completely divided hoof, you are not to eat the following: the camel, the rabbit, or the rock badger. Although they chew the cud, they do not have a divided hoof. They are unclean for you,
ULT And the pig, because he parts the hoof and{ chews} not the cud, he{ is} unclean to you. From their meat do not eat, and do not touch their carcasses. BSB BSB: as well as the pig; though it has a divided hoof, it does not chew the cud. It is unclean for you. You must not eat its meat or touch its carcass.
ULT You may eat this from all that is in the water, all that has fins and scales you may eat. BSB BSB: Of all the creatures that live in the water, you may eat anything with fins and scales,
ULT And all that does not have fins and scales you must not eat; it{ is} unclean to you. BSB BSB: but you may not eat anything that does not have fins and scales; it is unclean for you.
ULT All clean birds you may eat. BSB BSB: You may eat any clean bird,
ULT And this{ is} what you must not eat from them: the eagle, and the large vulture, and the black vulture, BSB BSB: but these you may not eat: the eagle, the bearded vulture, the black vulture,
ULT the red kite, and the falcon, and the kite according to its kind, BSB BSB: the red kite, the falcon, any kind of kite,
ULT and any raven according to its kind, BSB BSB: any kind of raven,
ULT and the ostrich, and the owl, and the gull, and the hawk according to its kind, BSB BSB: the ostrich, the screech owl, the gull, any kind of hawk,
ULT the little owl, and the great owl, and the white owl, BSB BSB: the little owl, the great owl, the white owl,
ULT and the pelican, and the carrion vulture, and the cormorant, BSB BSB: the desert owl, the osprey, the cormorant,
ULT and the stork, and the heron according to its kind, and the hoopoe, and the bat. BSB BSB: the stork, any kind of heron, the hoopoe, or the bat.
ULT And all winged, swarming things are unclean to you; they must not be eaten. BSB BSB: All flying insects are unclean for you; they may not be eaten.
ULT You may eat all clean flying things. BSB BSB: But you may eat any clean bird.
ULT You must not eat anything dying{ of itself}; you may give it to the sojourner who{ is} within your gates, and he may eat it or sell to a foreigner. For you{ are} a nation sanctified to Yahweh your God. You must not boil a young goat in the milk of its mother. BSB BSB: You are not to eat any carcass; you may give it to the foreigner residing within your gates, and he may eat it, or you may sell it to a foreigner. For you are a holy people belonging to the LORD your God. You must not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.
Giving Tithes (Leviticus 27:30–34; Deuteronomy 26:1–15; Nehemiah 13:10–14)
ULT Tithing, you shall tithe all the produce of your seed that comes out of the field year{ after} year. BSB BSB: You must be sure to set aside a tenth of all the produce brought forth each year from your fields.
ULT And you shall eat to the face of Yahweh your God, in the place that he will choose to make his name stay there, the tithe of your grain, your new wine, and your oil and the firstborn of your herd and your flock, so that you will learn to honor Yahweh your God all the days. BSB BSB: And you are to eat a tenth of your grain, new wine, and oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks, in the presence of the LORD your God at the place He will choose as a dwelling for His Name, so that you may learn to fear the LORD your God always.
ULT And if the journey is too long for you, that you are not able to carry it(because the place that Yahweh your God will choose to put his name there is too far from you), when Yahweh your God blesses you, BSB BSB: But if the distance is too great for you to carry that with which the LORD your God has blessed you, because the place where the LORD your God will choose to put His Name is too far away,
ULT then you may give it in silver, and bind the silver in your hand, and go to the place that Yahweh your God will choose it. BSB BSB: then exchange it for money, take the money in your hand, and go to the place the LORD your God will choose.
ULT And give the money for anything that your soul desires, for oxen or for sheep or for wine or for strong drink or for anything that your soul desires, and you shall eat there to the face of Yahweh your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your household. BSB BSB: Then you may spend the money on anything you desire: cattle, sheep, wine, strong drink, or anything you wish. You are to feast there in the presence of the LORD your God and rejoice with your household.
ULT And the Levite who{ is} within your gates, do not forsake him, for he has no portion nor inheritance with you. BSB BSB: And do not neglect the Levite within your gates, since he has no portion or inheritance among you.
ULT At the end of every three years you shall bring out all the tithe of your produce in that year, and you shall deposit{ it} within your gates; BSB BSB: At the end of every three years, bring a tenth of all your produce for that year and lay it up within your gates.
ULT and the Levite, because he has no portion nor inheritance with you, and the foreigner and the fatherless and the widow who{ are} within your gates, will come and eat and be satisfied so that Yahweh your God may bless you in all the work of your hand that you do. BSB BSB: Then the Levite (because he has no portion or inheritance among you), the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow within your gates may come and eat and be satisfied. And the LORD your God will bless you in all the work of your hands.
