The Birth of Isaac 1 ULT Then Yahweh visited Sarah as he had said, and Yahweh did for Sarah as he had said, BSB BSB: Now the LORD attended to Sarah as He had said, and the LORD did for Sarah what He had promised.
ULT so that Sarah conceived and bore a son for Abraham in his old age, at the appointed time which God had told him. BSB BSB: So Sarah conceived and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised.
ULT And Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore for him, Isaac. BSB BSB: And Abraham gave the name Isaac to the son Sarah bore to him.

ULT And Sarah said,“God has brought laughter to me! Everyone who hears will laugh with me!” BSB BSB: Then Sarah said, “God has made me laugh, and everyone who hears of this will laugh with me.”
ULT And she said,“Who would have said to Abraham{ that} Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have born a son in his old age!” BSB BSB: She added, “Who would have told Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.”
ULT Then the child grew and was weaned, and Abraham made a great feast on the day Isaac was weaned. BSB BSB: So the child grew and was weaned, and Abraham held a great feast on the day Isaac was weaned.

ULT And Sarah saw{ that} the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had born for Abraham, was mocking. BSB BSB: But Sarah saw that the son whom Hagar the Egyptian had borne to Abraham was mocking her son,
ULT So she said to Abraham,“Drive away that slave woman and her son, because the son of that slave woman will not inherit with my son, with Isaac!” BSB BSB: and she said to Abraham, “Expel the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with my son Isaac!”
ULT And the matter was very distressing in the eyes of Abraham on account of his son. BSB BSB: Now this matter distressed Abraham greatly because it concerned his son Ishmael.
ULT And the son of the slave woman I will also make into a nation, because he{ is} your offspring.” BSB BSB: But I will also make a nation of the slave woman’s son, because he is your offspring.”
ULT Then Abraham got up early in the morning, and took bread and a skin of water and gave them to Hagar, putting them on her shoulder. Then{ he gave her} the child and sent her away, and she left and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba. BSB BSB: Early in the morning, Abraham got up, took bread and a skin of water, put them on Hagar’s shoulders, and sent her away with the boy. She left and wandered in the Wilderness of Beersheba.
ULT And when the water from the skin was gone, then she threw the child under one of the bushes, BSB BSB: When the water in the skin was gone, she left the boy under one of the bushes.
ULT and she went and sat down by herself at a distance, as far away as they shoot a bow, because she said,“Do not let me look on the death of the child!” And{ as} she sat at a distance, then she lifted her voice and sobbed. BSB BSB: Then she went off and sat down nearby, about a bowshot away, for she said, “I cannot bear to watch the boy die!” And as she sat nearby, she lifted up her voice and wept.
ULT Get up, lift the boy, and hold on to him with your hand, because I will make him into a great nation.” BSB BSB: Get up, lift up the boy, and take him by the hand, for I will make him into a great nation.”

The Covenant at Beersheba 22 ULT And it happened at that time that Abimelech and Phicol, the commander of his army, spoke to Abraham, saying,“God{ is} with you in all that you do. BSB BSB: At that time Abimelech and Phicol the commander of his army said to Abraham, “God is with you in all that you do.
ULT So now, swear to me here by God if you will deal falsely with me or with my children or with my descendants. According to the kindness that I have done to you, do to me and to the land which you are sojourning in.” BSB BSB: Now, therefore, swear to me here before God that you will not deal falsely with me or my children or descendants. Show to me and to the country in which you reside the same kindness that I have shown to you.”
ULT And Abraham said,“I swear.” BSB BSB: And Abraham replied, “I swear it.”
ULT Then Abraham complained to Abimelech on account of the well of water that the servants of Abimelech had seized. BSB BSB: But when Abraham complained to Abimelech about a well that Abimelech’s servants had seized,
ULT Then Abimelech said,“I do not know who has done this thing. And also you did not tell me, and also I have not heard about it until today.” BSB BSB: Abimelech replied, “I do not know who has done this. You did not tell me, so I have not heard about it until today.”
ULT Then Abraham took sheep and cattle, and he gave them to Abimelech, and the two of them cut a covenant. BSB BSB: So Abraham brought sheep and cattle and gave them to Abimelech, and the two men made a covenant.
ULT Then Abraham set apart seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves. BSB BSB: Abraham separated seven ewe lambs from the flock,
ULT So Abimelech said to Abraham,“What{ are} they, these seven ewe lambs that you have set apart by themselves?” BSB BSB: and Abimelech asked him, “Why have you set apart these seven ewe lambs?”
ULT And he said,“Because you must take the seven ewe lambs from my hand, so that it can be a witness for me that I dug this well.” BSB BSB: He replied, “You are to accept the seven ewe lambs from my hand as my witness that I dug this well.”
ULT For that{ reason} he called that place Beersheba, because there the two of them swore an oath. BSB BSB: So that place was called Beersheba, because it was there that the two of them swore an oath.
ULT So they cut the covenant at Beersheba. Then Abimelech and Phicol, the commander of his army, got up and returned to the land of the Philistines. BSB BSB: After they had made the covenant at Beersheba, Abimelech and Phicol the commander of his army got up and returned to the land of the Philistines.
ULT Then he planted a tamarisk tree at Beersheba, and there he called on the name of Yahweh, the God of eternity. BSB BSB: And Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and there he called upon the name of the LORD, the Eternal God.
ULT Then Abraham sojourned in the land of the Philistines many days. BSB BSB: And Abraham resided in the land of the Philistines for a long time.
