1. The Supremacy of the Son

   (Colossians 1:15–23)

2. 1ULTIn many portions and in many ways long ago, God, having spoken to our fathers through the prophets,BSBBSB: On many past occasions and in many different ways, God spoke to our fathers through the prophets.
3. 2ULTat the last of these days spoke to us through a Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom also he made the ages;BSBBSB: But in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe.
4. 3ULTwho, being the brightness of his glory and exact representation of his being, upholding all the things by the word of his power and having made purification for sins, sat down at the right of the Majesty on high;BSBBSB: The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature, upholding all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.
5. 4ULThaving become far superior to the angels, as he has inherited a more excellent name than they.BSBBSB: So He became as far superior to the angels as the name He has inherited is excellent beyond theirs.
6. 5ULTFor to which of the angels did he ever say,“You are my son. Today I have fathered you”? And again,“I will be as a father to him, and he will be as a son to me”?BSBBSB: For to which of the angels did God ever say: “You are My Son; today I have become Your Father”? Or again: “I will be His Father, and He will be My Son”?
7. 6ULTBut again, when he brings the firstborn into the world, he says,“And let all the angels of God worship him.”BSBBSB: And again, when God brings His firstborn into the world, He says: “Let all God’s angels worship Him.”
8. 7ULTAnd on the one hand, with regard to the angels, he says,“The one making his angels spirits, and his servants flames of fire.”BSBBSB: Now about the angels He says: “He makes His angels winds, His servants flames of fire.”
9. 8ULTBut with regard to the Son,“Your throne, God,{ is} forever{ and} ever, and the scepter of righteousness{ is the} scepter of his kingdom.BSBBSB: But about the Son He says: “Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever, and justice is the scepter of Your kingdom.
10. 9ULTYou loved righteousness and hated lawlessness. Because of this, God, your God, has anointed you{ with the} oil of exultation more than your companions.”BSBBSB: You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, Your God, has anointed You above Your companions with the oil of joy.”
11. 10ULTAnd“according to the beginnings, Lord, you founded the earth, and the heavens are the works of your hands.BSBBSB: And: “In the beginning, O Lord, You laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands.
12. 11ULTThey themselves will perish, but you yourself will continue, and they will all wear out like a garment,BSBBSB: They will perish, but You remain; they will all wear out like a garment.
13. 12ULTand as a cloak you will roll them up, and as a garment they will be changed, but you yourself are the same, and your years will not fail.”BSBBSB: You will roll them up like a robe; like a garment they will be changed; but You remain the same, and Your years will never end.”
14. 13ULTBut to which of the angels has he ever said,“Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool{ for} your feet”?BSBBSB: Yet to which of the angels did God ever say: “Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet”?
15. 14ULTAre they not all ministering spirits, being sent for service for the sake of the ones going to inherit salvation?BSBBSB: Are not the angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?
