Israel Will Reap the Whirlwind 1 ULT “To your palate, a shofar! Like a vulture over the house of Yahweh, because they have transgressed my covenant and against my law they have rebelled. BSB BSB: Put the ram’s horn to your lips! An eagle looms over the house of the LORD, because the people have transgressed My covenant and rebelled against My law.
ULT To me they cry out,‘My God, we, Israel, know you.’ BSB BSB: Israel cries out to Me, “O our God, we know You!”
ULT Israel has rejected the good; an enemy will pursue him. BSB BSB: But Israel has rejected good; an enemy will pursue him.
ULT They, they have made kings, but not from me. They have appointed princes, but I did not know. Their silver and their gold they have made for themselves{ into} idols, so that he will be cut off.” BSB BSB: They set up kings, but not by Me. They make princes, but without My approval. With their silver and gold they make themselves idols, to their own destruction.
ULT “He has rejected your calf, Samaria. My nose burns against them. Until when will they not attain innocence? BSB BSB: He has rejected your calf, O Samaria. My anger burns against them. How long will they be incapable of innocence?
ULT For from Israel{ is} even this: a craftsman made it, and it{ is} not God! Surely the calf of Samaria will become broken pieces. BSB BSB: For this thing is from Israel—a craftsman made it, and it is not God. It will be broken to pieces, that calf of Samaria.
ULT For they sow wind, and they will reap a whirlwind; standing grain on which there is no head. It will not yield flour. If perhaps it yields, strangers will swallow it up. BSB BSB: For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind. There is no standing grain; what sprouts fails to yield flour. Even if it should produce, the foreigners would swallow it up.
ULT Israel is swallowed up. Now they are among the nations like a vessel in which there is no delight. BSB BSB: Israel is swallowed up! Now they are among the nations like a worthless vessel.
ULT For they, they have gone up to Assyria, a wild donkey alone by itself. Ephraim has hired lovers. BSB BSB: For they have gone up to Assyria like a wild donkey on its own. Ephraim has hired lovers.
ULT Even though they hire among the nations, now I will gather them. And they will begin{ in} a little from the burden of the king of princes. BSB BSB: Though they hire allies among the nations, I will now round them up, and they will begin to diminish under the oppression of the king of princes.
ULT Because Ephraim has multiplied altars for sin, they have become for him altars for sin. BSB BSB: Though Ephraim multiplied the altars for sin, they became his altars for sinning.
ULT Were I to write for him myriads of my law, they would be regarded as something strange. BSB BSB: Though I wrote for them the great things of My law, they regarded them as something strange.
ULT The sacrifices of my gifts they sacrifice flesh and they eat. Yahweh does not accept them. Now he will remember their iniquity and punish their sins. They, they will return to Egypt. BSB BSB: Though they offer sacrifices as gifts to Me, and though they eat the meat, the LORD does not accept them. Now He will remember their iniquity and punish their sins: They will return to Egypt.
ULT And Israel forgot his maker and built palaces. And Judah has multiplied fortified cities, but I will send fire on his cities, and it will devour her citadels.” BSB BSB: Israel has forgotten his Maker and built palaces; Judah has multiplied its fortified cities. But I will send fire upon their cities, and it will consume their citadels.
