The Twelve Apostles (Mark 3:13–19; Luke 6:12–16)
ULT And having summoned his 12 disciples, he gave them authority over unclean spirits, so as to cast them out and to heal every disease and every sickness. BSB BSB: And calling His twelve disciples to Him, Jesus gave them authority over unclean spirits, so that they could drive them out and heal every disease and sickness.
ULT Now the names of the 12 apostles are these: first, Simon(called Peter), and Andrew his brother; and James the{ son} of Zebedee, and John his brother; BSB BSB: These are the names of the twelve apostles: first Simon, called Peter, and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John;

The Ministry of the Twelve (Mark 6:7–13; Luke 9:1–6)
ULT But go instead to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. BSB BSB: Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel.
ULT Now{ as} you are going, preach, saying,‘The kingdom of the heavens has come near.’ BSB BSB: As you go, preach this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven is near.’
ULT Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers,{ and} cast out demons. Freely you have received; freely give. BSB BSB: Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.
ULT Do not acquire gold or silver or copper in your belts, BSB BSB: Do not take along any gold or silver or copper in your belts.
ULT nor a bag for the road nor two tunics nor sandals nor a staff, for the laborer{ is} worthy of his food. BSB BSB: Take no bag for the road, or second tunic, or sandals, or staff; for the worker is worthy of his provisions.
ULT But whatever city or village you enter into, find someone who is worthy in it and stay there until you go out. BSB BSB: Whatever town or village you enter, find out who is worthy there and stay at his house until you move on.
ULT Now entering into the house, greet it. BSB BSB: As you enter the home, greet its occupants.
ULT And if indeed the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let your peace be returned to you. BSB BSB: If the home is worthy, let your peace rest on it, but if it is not, let your peace return to you.
ULT And whoever does not receive you nor listen to your words, departing from that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet. BSB BSB: And if anyone will not welcome you or heed your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town.
ULT Truly I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city. BSB BSB: Truly I tell you, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town.
Sheep among Wolves (2 Timothy 1:3–12)
ULT Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so become wise as the serpents and harmless as the doves. BSB BSB: Behold, I am sending you out like sheep among wolves; therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.
ULT But beware of the men, for they will hand you over to councils, and they will whip you in their synagogues; BSB BSB: But beware of men, for they will hand you over to their councils and flog you in their synagogues.
ULT and you will be brought also before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. BSB BSB: On My account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles.
ULT But when they hand you over, do not worry about how or what you will speak, for what you will say will be given to you in that hour. BSB BSB: But when they hand you over, do not worry about how to respond or what to say. In that hour you will be given what to say.
ULT For you are not the one speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. BSB BSB: For it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
ULT Now brother will hand over brother to death, and a father, his child, and children will rise up against parents and put them to death. BSB BSB: Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rise against their parents and have them put to death.
ULT And you will be hated by all because of my name, but the one having endured to the end, this one will be saved. BSB BSB: You will be hated by everyone because of My name, but the one who perseveres to the end will be saved.
ULT But whenever they persecute you in this city, flee to the next, for truly I say to you, you will certainly not finish the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes. BSB BSB: When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next. Truly I tell you, you will not reach all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
ULT A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a slave above his master. BSB BSB: A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master.
ULT It is enough for the disciple that he might be like his teacher, and the slave like his master. If they called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much worse the members of his household! BSB BSB: It is enough for a disciple to be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household!
Fear God Alone (Luke 12:4–7)
ULT Therefore, do not fear them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, and hidden, that will not be made known. BSB BSB: So do not be afraid of them. For there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, and nothing hidden that will not be made known.
ULT What I tell you in the darkness, say in the light, and what you hear in your ear, proclaim upon the housetops. BSB BSB: What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the housetops.
ULT But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. BSB BSB: And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
ULT Therefore, do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows. BSB BSB: So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
Confessing Christ (Luke 12:8–12)
ULT But whoever denies me before men, I will also deny him before my Father in the heavens. BSB BSB: But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father in heaven.
Not Peace but a Sword (Micah 7:1–6; Luke 12:49–53)
ULT For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter- in- law against her mother- in- law; BSB BSB: For I have come to turn ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
ULT and the enemies of a man{ will be} the ones of his household. BSB BSB: A man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’
ULT The one having found his life will lose it, and the one having lost his life for my sake will find it. BSB BSB: Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.
The Reward of Service (2 Kings 4:8–17)
ULT The one receiving you receives me, and the one receiving me receives the one having sent me. BSB BSB: He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives the One who sent Me.
ULT The one receiving a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a reward of a prophet, and the one receiving a righteous{ man} in the name of a righteous{ man} will receive a reward of a righteous{ man}. BSB BSB: Whoever receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man’s reward.
ULT And whoever gives to one of these little ones a cup of cold water to drink only in the name of a disciple, truly I say to you, he will certainly not lose his reward.” BSB BSB: And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is My disciple, truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward.”
