Taste and See That the LORD Is Good (1 Samuel 21:8–15)
1 ULT I shall bless Yahweh at all times; continually his praise{ is} in my mouth. BSB BSB: Of David, when he pretended to be insane before Abimelech, so that the king drove him away. I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise will always be on my lips.
2 ULT In Yahweh my soul will boast; the humble will hear and rejoice. BSB BSB: My soul boasts in the LORD; let the oppressed hear and rejoice.
3 ULT Magnify Yahweh with me, and let us exalt his name together. BSB BSB: Magnify the LORD with me; let us exalt His name together.
4 ULT I sought Yahweh, and he answered me, and from all of my fears he delivered me. BSB BSB: I sought the LORD, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.
5 ULT They look to him and are radiant; let their faces not have shame. BSB BSB: Those who look to Him are radiant with joy; their faces shall never be ashamed.
6 ULT This afflicted{ one} called, and Yahweh heard, and from all of his troubles he saved him. BSB BSB: This poor man called out, and the LORD heard him; He saved him from all his troubles.
7 ULT The angel of Yahweh is encamping around the fearers of him, and he rescues them. BSB BSB: The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him, and he delivers them.
8 ULT Taste and see that Yahweh{ is} good; the happinesses of the man— he takes refuge in him! BSB BSB: Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!
9 ULT Fear Yahweh, his holy{ ones}, for there is no lack for the fearers of him. BSB BSB: Fear the LORD, you His saints, for those who fear Him lack nothing.
10 ULT Young lions are poor and hungry, but the seekers of Yahweh will not lack any good{ thing}. BSB BSB: Young lions go lacking and hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.
11 ULT Come, sons, listen to me; the fear of Yahweh I will teach you. BSB BSB: Come, children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
12 ULT Who{ is} the man, the{ one} desiring life, loving days to see good? BSB BSB: Who is the man who delights in life, who desires to see good days?
13 ULT Guard your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit. BSB BSB: Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from deceitful speech.
14 ULT Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. BSB BSB: Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
15 ULT The eyes of Yahweh{ are} toward the righteous, and his ears{ are} toward their cry. BSB BSB: The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and His ears are inclined to their cry.
16 ULT The face of Yahweh{ is} against the doers of evil, to cut off their remembrance from the earth. BSB BSB: But the face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to wipe out all memory of them from the earth.
17 ULT They cry out, and Yahweh hears, and from all of their troubles he delivers them. BSB BSB: The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears; He delivers them from all their troubles.
18 ULT Yahweh{ is} near to the broken of heart, and the crushed of spirit he saves. BSB BSB: The LORD is near to the brokenhearted; He saves the contrite in spirit.
19 ULT Many{ are} the evils of the righteous, but Yahweh delivers him from all of them. BSB BSB: Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him from them all.
20 ULT He is guarding all of his bones; not one of them is broken. BSB BSB: He protects all his bones; not one of them will be broken.
21 ULT Evil will put to death the wicked, and the haters of the righteous will be guilty. BSB BSB: Evil will slay the wicked, and the haters of the righteous will be condemned.
22 ULT Yahweh is redeeming the soul of his servants, and everyone taking refuge in him will not be guilty. BSB BSB: The LORD redeems His servants, and none who take refuge in Him will be condemned.
