Judgment on Jerusalem 1 ULT Woe to the one rebelling and being defiled, the oppressing city! BSB BSB: Woe to the city of oppressors, rebellious and defiled!
2 ULT She does not hear the voice; she does not take correction. In Yahweh she does not trust; to her God she does not draw near. BSB BSB: She heeded no voice; she accepted no correction. She does not trust in the LORD; she has not drawn near to her God.
3 ULT Her princes{ are} roaring lions in her midst. Her judges{ are} wolves of the evening; they do not gnaw in the morning. BSB BSB: Her princes are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves, leaving nothing for the morning.
4 ULT Her prophets{ are} light, men of treacheries. Her priests profane the holy; they violate the law. BSB BSB: Her prophets are reckless, faithless men. Her priests profane the sanctuary; they do violence to the law.
5 ULT Yahweh{ is} righteous in her midst. He does not commit unrighteousness. In the morning, in the morning he gives his justice; at light he is not left out. Yet the unrighteous does not know shame. BSB BSB: The LORD within her is righteous; He does no wrong. He applies His justice morning by morning; He does not fail at dawn, yet the unjust know no shame.
Purification of the Nations 6 ULT “I have cut off nations, their corners have been demolished; I have destroyed their streets, without one passing over{ them}. Their cities are ruined, without a man, with no one dwelling. BSB BSB: “I have cut off the nations; their corner towers are destroyed. I have made their streets deserted with no one to pass through. Their cities are laid waste, with no man, no inhabitant.
7 ULT I said,‘Surely you will fear me; you will take correction. Then her dwelling will not be cut off{ by} all that I have visited upon her.’ Nevertheless, they rose early, they corrupted all of their deeds. BSB BSB: I said, ‘Surely you will fear Me and accept correction.’ Then her dwelling place would not be cut off despite all for which I punished her. But they rose early to corrupt all their deeds.
8 ULT Therefore, wait for me”— the declaration of Yahweh—“for the day of my arising to the prey. For my judgment{ is} to gather nations, for me to assemble kingdoms, to pour out my indignation on them, all of the burning of my nose. For in the fire of my jealousy all of the earth will be consumed. BSB BSB: Therefore wait for Me,” declares the LORD, “until the day I rise to testify. For My decision is to gather nations, to assemble kingdoms, to pour out upon them My indignation—all My burning anger. For all the earth will be consumed by the fire of My jealousy.
A Faithful Remnant 9 ULT Then I will surely give to the peoples a pure lip, for all of them to call upon the name of Yahweh, to serve him{ with} one shoulder. BSB BSB: For then I will restore pure lips to the peoples, that all may call upon the name of the LORD and serve Him shoulder to shoulder.
10 ULT From across the rivers of Cush, my worshipers, the daughter of my scattered one, will bring my offering. BSB BSB: From beyond the rivers of Cush My worshipers, My scattered people, will bring Me an offering.
11 ULT On that day you will not feel shame from all of your deeds{ by} which you transgressed against me, for then I will remove from your midst the exultant{ ones} of your pride, and you will not continue still to be haughty on my holy mountain. BSB BSB: On that day you will not be put to shame for any of the deeds by which you have transgressed against Me. For then I will remove from among you those who rejoice in their pride, and you will never again be haughty on My holy mountain.
12 ULT And I will leave in your midst a humble and lowly people, and they will trust in the name of Yahweh. BSB BSB: But I will leave within you a meek and humble people, and they will trust in the name of the LORD.
13 ULT The remnant of Israel will not commit unrighteousness and they will not speak a lie, and a tongue of deceit will not be found in their mouth. But they will graze and lie down, and there will be none frightening{ them}.” BSB BSB: The remnant of Israel will no longer do wrong or speak lies, nor will a deceitful tongue be found in their mouths. But they will feed and lie down, with no one to make them tremble.”
Israel’s Restoration 14 ULT Sing, daughter of Zion! Shout, Israel! Rejoice and exult with all of{ your} heart, daughter of Jerusalem! BSB BSB: Sing for joy, O Daughter of Zion; shout aloud, O Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, O Daughter of Jerusalem!
15 ULT Yahweh has taken away your judgments; he has turned back your enemy. The king of Israel, Yahweh,{ is} in your midst. You will not fear harm again! BSB BSB: The LORD has taken away your punishment; He has turned back your enemy. Israel’s King, the LORD, is among you; no longer will you fear any harm.
16 ULT In that day it will be said to Jerusalem,“Do not fear, Zion! Do not slacken your hands! BSB BSB: On that day they will say to Jerusalem: “Do not fear, O Zion; do not let your hands fall limp.
17 ULT Yahweh your God is{ in} your midst; a Mighty One, he will save{ you}. He will rejoice over you with gladness; he will be silent in his love; he will exult over you with rejoicing.” BSB BSB: The LORD your God is among you; He is mighty to save. He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you with His love; He will rejoice over you with singing.”
18 ULT “I will gather the ones grieving for the solemn assembly, they are from you; the reproach{ was} a burden upon her. BSB BSB: “I will gather those among you who grieve over the appointed feasts, so that you will no longer suffer reproach.
19 ULT Behold, I will be dealing with all of your oppressors at that time. And I will save the lame and gather the cast- out one. And I will turn them into praise, and their shame into a name in all of the earth. BSB BSB: Behold, at that time, I will deal with all who afflict you. I will save the lame and gather the scattered; and I will appoint praise and fame for the disgraced throughout the earth.
20 ULT At that time I will bring you in, yes, at the time of my gathering you. Then I will give you for a name and for praise among all of the peoples of the earth, in my restoring your fortunes before your eyes.” Yahweh has spoken. BSB BSB: At that time I will bring you in; yes, at that time I will gather you. For I will give you fame and praise among all the peoples of the earth when I restore your captives before your very eyes,” says the LORD.
