Psalm 127 127 Psalms Book 5 unfoldingWord® Simplified Text Children Are a Heritage from the LORD 1 UST This is a psalm for people going up to the temple to worship. It is of Solomon. If people are building a house, but Yahweh does not approve of it, those who build it are doing nothing useful. If Yahweh does not protect a city, it is useless for the guards to stay awake watching it. BSB BSB: A song of ascents. Of Solomon. Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain; unless the LORD protects the city, its watchmen stand guard in vain.
UST It is useless for you to get up very early and stay up very late, working hard to get food, because Yahweh wants to give sleep to those whom he loves. BSB BSB: In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for bread to eat—for He gives sleep to His beloved.
UST Children are a gift that Yahweh gives; Offspring are a benefit{ from him}. BSB BSB: Children are indeed a heritage from the LORD, and the fruit of the womb is His reward.
UST When a man has sons while he is still young, those sons become as useful as arrows are in the hand of a warrior. BSB BSB: Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are children born in one’s youth.
UST A man who has many sons has such a good life! When he argues with an opponent at the place where people settle disputes, the opponent will not defeat him. BSB BSB: Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. He will not be put to shame when he confronts the enemies at the gate.
