Praise to the Creator (Psalm 148:1–14)
1 UST You people who do what is right, shout joyfully because of Yahweh, because praising him is what upright people should do. BSB BSB: Rejoice in the LORD, O righteous ones; it is fitting for the upright to praise Him.
2 UST Praise Yahweh by playing songs on the harp. Praise him as you make music for him with instruments that have many strings. BSB BSB: Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to Him with ten strings.
3 UST Sing a new song to him; play those instruments well, and shout joyfully as you play them! BSB BSB: Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully with a shout of joy.
4 UST Do this because everything that Yahweh says is true, and we can trust that everything that he does is right. BSB BSB: For the word of the LORD is upright, and all His work is trustworthy.
5 UST He loves everything that people do that is right and just. Yahweh faithfully loves people all over the earth. BSB BSB: The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of His loving devotion.
6 UST Yahweh created everything in the sky by commanding it. He created all of the stars by speaking. BSB BSB: By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and all the stars by the breath of His mouth.
7 UST He gathered all the water of the sea into one huge mass as though scooping it into a container. BSB BSB: He piles up the waters of the sea; He puts the depths into storehouses.
8 UST Everyone on the earth should deeply revere Yahweh. BSB BSB: Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere Him.
9 UST They should revere him because he is the one who spoke, making the world exist. Everything started to exist because he is the one who commanded it. BSB BSB: For He spoke, and it came to be; He commanded, and it stood firm.
10 UST Yahweh stops the nations from doing what they plan to do. He prevents the peoples from carrying out what they decide. BSB BSB: The LORD frustrates the plans of the nations; He thwarts the devices of the peoples.
11 UST However, what Yahweh decides to do will last forever. What he plans to do will never change. BSB BSB: The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the purposes of His heart to all generations.
12 UST What a good life people have when Yahweh is the God of their nation; he chose those people to belong to him. BSB BSB: Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people He has chosen as His inheritance!
13 UST Yahweh looks down from heaven; he sees all human beings. BSB BSB: The LORD looks down from heaven; He sees all the sons of men.
14 UST From the place where he lives he watches everyone who lives on the earth. BSB BSB: From His dwelling place He gazes on all who inhabit the earth.
15 UST He created each person’ s heart, and he knows everything that they do. BSB BSB: He shapes the hearts of each; He considers all their works.
16 UST It is not because a king has a great army that he is able to win{ battles}, and it is not because a soldier is very strong that he is able to defeat{ his enemy}. BSB BSB: No king is saved by his vast army; no warrior is delivered by his great strength.
17 UST It is foolish to hope that a horse can save anyone; even with its great strength, it cannot rescue{ its rider}. BSB BSB: A horse is a vain hope for salvation; even its great strength cannot save.
18 UST Note this: Yahweh watches over those who deeply revere him; He watches over those who confidently expect him to faithfully love them, BSB BSB: Surely the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear Him, on those whose hope is in His loving devotion
19 UST to save them from dying and to preserve them alive through any famine. BSB BSB: to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.
20 UST We trust that Yahweh will take care of us; he will help us and protect us. BSB BSB: Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield.
21 UST Indeed, he makes us very joyful; we trust him because he is holy. BSB BSB: For our hearts rejoice in Him, since we trust in His holy name.
22 UST Yahweh, we pray that you will always faithfully love us, while we confidently wait for you{ to help us}. BSB BSB: May Your loving devotion rest on us, O LORD, as we put our hope in You.
