Taste and See That the LORD Is Good (1 Samuel 21:8–15)
1 UST I will always thank Yahweh; I will constantly praise him out loud. BSB BSB: Of David, when he pretended to be insane before Abimelech, so that the king drove him away. I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise will always be on my lips.
2 UST I will boast about{ what} Yahweh{ has done for me}. All of the humble people who hear me will rejoice. BSB BSB: My soul boasts in the LORD; let the oppressed hear and rejoice.
3 UST Join with me in telling others that Yahweh is great, and let us together proclaim how glorious he is! BSB BSB: Magnify the LORD with me; let us exalt His name together.
4 UST I prayed to Yahweh, and he answered me; he rescued me from everything that I was afraid of. BSB BSB: I sought the LORD, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.
5 UST Those who ask him{ to help them} will be joyful; may Yahweh always provide for them. BSB BSB: Those who look to Him are radiant with joy; their faces shall never be ashamed.
6 UST I was suffering, but I called out to Yahweh, and he heard me. He saved me from all of the things that were troubling me. BSB BSB: This poor man called out, and the LORD heard him; He saved him from all his troubles.
7 UST An angel representing Yahweh guards people who deeply revere Yahweh, and the angel rescues them{ from bad things}. BSB BSB: The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him, and he delivers them.
8 UST Experience for yourselves how good Yahweh is! Everyone who trusts in Yahweh will be truly happy! BSB BSB: Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!
9 UST All you people who belong to Yahweh, deeply revere him, because those who deeply revere him will always have everything that they need. BSB BSB: Fear the LORD, you His saints, for those who fear Him lack nothing.
10 UST { Even} young lions{ sometimes} go hungry and have nothing to eat, but people who trust in Yahweh for help will always have the good{ things that they need}. BSB BSB: Young lions go lacking and hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.
11 UST You who are my students, come and listen to me, and I will teach you how to deeply revere Yahweh. BSB BSB: Come, children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
12 UST If any of you want to truly live and to enjoy a good, long life, BSB BSB: Who is the man who delights in life, who desires to see good days?
13 UST then be careful to not say things that are harmful, and to not tell lies. BSB BSB: Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from deceitful speech.
14 UST Stop doing what is evil and instead do what is good; always strive to live peacefully with others. BSB BSB: Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
15 UST Yahweh pays attention to people who do what is right, and he listens when they call{ to him to help them}. BSB BSB: The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and His ears are inclined to their cry.
16 UST But Yahweh opposes people who do what is evil. He does not allow their descendants to remain on the earth. BSB BSB: But the face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to wipe out all memory of them from the earth.
17 UST People who do what is right cry out to Yahweh, and he hears them; he rescues them from all the things that trouble them. BSB BSB: The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears; He delivers them from all their troubles.
18 UST Yahweh is always ready to help people who are very sad, and he saves people who are deeply discouraged. BSB BSB: The LORD is near to the brokenhearted; He saves the contrite in spirit.
19 UST People who do what is right experience many bad things, but Yahweh rescues them from all of those bad things. BSB BSB: Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him from them all.
20 UST Yahweh protects their whole body; he does not allow{ their enemies} to break even one of their bones. BSB BSB: He protects all his bones; not one of them will be broken.
21 UST Wicked people will cause themselves to die because of the evil things that they do, and Yahweh will punish those who hate righteous people. BSB BSB: Evil will slay the wicked, and the haters of the righteous will be condemned.
22 UST Yahweh saves those who serve him, and he will forgive all who trust in him. BSB BSB: The LORD redeems His servants, and none who take refuge in Him will be condemned.
