1Maarre ol-gubba'aa fi latti, wonni isaan keessa jiranu martille akka kanaan dadamanee muummeffamane.Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.

2Waaqi hujii huje mara hobbaasee, guyyaa torbeesso'oo foorfate.And by the seventh day God had finished the work He had been doing; so on that day He rested from all His work.

3Waaqi waan dade mara hobbaasee, guyyaa torbeesso'ootitti waan foorfateef, guyyaa torbeesso'oo san eebbise; woyyoonselle'e.Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because on that day He rested from all the work of creation that He had accomplished.

4Kun dabarsii dadama ol-gubba'aa fi lafaa ti. Yennaa Mootiin Waan Maraa Waaqi ol-gubba'aa fi lafa dade,This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made them.

5inni lafa irratti bokkeya waan roobisiisee hin jirreef, nami lafa hujulle waan hin jirreef, biqiltuun lafa irra hin jirtuuyyu; wonni tokkolle lattee hin jirtu.Now no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth, nor had any plant of the field sprouted, for the LORD God had not yet sent rain upon the earth, and there was no man to cultivate the ground.

6Teetuu malee, maddi lafa keessaa ol bayee lafa duudii obaasaa ture.But springs welled up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground.

7Achiin duuba Mootiin Waan Maraa Waaqi biyyee lafa irraa fuudhee, nama tolchee, hafuura jiru'uu funnaan isaatitti baafate; namille dada lubbuu qabaatee jiraatu te'e.Then the LORD God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being.

8Mootiin Waan Maraa Waaqi karaa aduun baatu Edenitti oorruu dhaabe; nama dade sanille achi keessa keye.And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, where He placed the man He had formed.

9Mootiin Waan Maraa Waaqi muka ilti namaa halchitu ka adda addaa, ka midhaan isaalle nyaatiisaaf dansaa te'e lafa keessaa lachisiise; muki midhaan isaa nyaatanee jiruu namaa kennu, muki dhibiin ka hantu'uu fi dansaa ittiin beekanulle addee oorru'uu san wodhakkaa jiraayyu.Out of the ground the LORD God gave growth to every tree that is pleasing to the eye and good for food. And in the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

10Addee oorru'uu san obaasiisaaf Eden keessaa maddi burqe; maddi achii bayee, gargar qoodamee laga afur te'e.Now a river flowed out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it branched into four headwaters:

11Maqaan laga qaraa Phiishon; inni lafa Hawiila'aa duudii lafa worqiin jirtutti marsee yaa'a.The name of the first river is the Pishon; it winds through the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold.

12Worqiin lafa sanii dansa'a; uddowa'aa fi dhakaan gatii guddo'oolle achi jiran.And the gold of that land is pure, and bdellium and onyx are found there.

13Maqaan laga lammeesso'oo Giihon; inni lafa Itoophiya'aa marsee yaa'a.The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the whole land of Cush.

14Maqaan laga sadeesso'oo Xeegros; innille qachaa Asoorii gara baya adu'uutiin yaa'a. Lagi arfeesso'oolle Efraaxiis jedhama.The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

15Mootiin Waan Maraa Waaqi namicha fuudhee addee oorruu Edenii san akka hujuu fi akka eegu achi keessa keye.Then the LORD God took the man and placed him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it.

16Mootiin Waan Maraa Waaqi namicha ajajee, «Midhaan muka addee oorruu Edenii kana keessa jiranu mara irraa hin nyaatta;And the LORD God commanded him, “You may eat freely from every tree of the garden,

17midhaan muka nyaatanee hantu'uu fi dansaa ittiin beekanu san irraa ammoo hin nyaatin. Gaafa isa irraa nyaatte ammoo dhuguma hin duuta» jedhe.but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; for in the day that you eat of it, you will surely die.”

18Achiin duuba Mootiin Waan Maraa Waaqi, «Namichi qofii ifii te'uun dansa'aa moti; ani waa'ela qarqaartuu isaa, isaaf hin dada» jedhe.The LORD God also said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make for him a suitable helper.”

19Mootiin Waan Maraa Waaqi biyyee irraa bineensotaa fi sinbirroota dadee, maan jedhee akka inni waamu ilaaliisaaf gara namichaa fide; wonni namichi dada lubbuu qabeeyyii ittiin waame duudiin maqaa te'eef.And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and He brought them to the man to see what he would name each one. And whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name.

20Maarre namichi horii maraaf, sinbirroota maraaf, bineensota maraafille maqaa baase; namichaaf ammoo waa'elli qarqaaraan hin dhagganne.The man gave names to all the livestock, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found.

21Maarre Mootiin Waan Maraa Waaqi namichatti hirriiba hamaa buusee, adoo inni rafuu, cinaacha isaa keessaa tokkocha fuudhee, addee cinaachaa san fooniin cufe.So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep, and while he slept, He took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the area with flesh.

22Mootiin Waan Maraa Waaqi cinaacha namicha keessaa fuudhe san irraa, namittii dadee, gara namichaa fide.And from the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man, He made a woman and brought her to him.

23Achiin duuba namichi, «Amma reefuu, lafeen isi'ii lafee tiyya irraa, foon isi'ii foon kiyya irraa dhaggame; isiin namicha irraa waan dhagganteef, ‹Namittii› jedhantee waamantuu ti» jedhe.And the man said: “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for out of man she was taken.”

24Tanaaf nami abba'aa fi haadha ifii hin lakkisa niitii ifii woliin hin tokkooma; isaanille foon tokko hin te'an.For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.

25Namichaa fi niitiin isaa lamaanuu qullaa jiraniiyyu, te'uu malee wol hin fokkifatanuuyyu.And the man and his wife were both naked, and they were not ashamed.
