1ΑΚΟΥΣΑΤΕ λόγον Κυρίου, υἱοὶ Ἰσραήλ, ὅτι κρίσις τῷ Κυρίῳ πρὸς τοὺς κατοικοῦντας τὴν γῆν, διότι οὐκ ἔστιν ἀλήθεια οὐδὲ ἔλεος οὐδὲ ἐπίγνωσις Θεοῦ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς.Hear the word of the LORD, O children of Israel, for the LORD has a case against the people of the land: “There is no truth, no loving devotion, and no knowledge of God in the land!

2ἀρὰ καὶ ψεῦδος καὶ φόνος καὶ κλοπὴ καὶ μοιχεία κέχυται ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, καὶ αἵματα ἀφ᾿ αἵμασι μίσγουσι.Cursing and lying, murder and stealing, and adultery are rampant; one act of bloodshed follows another.

3διὰ τοῦτο πενθήσει ἡ γῆ καὶ σμικρυνθήσεται σὺν πᾶσι τοῖς κατοικοῦσιν αὐτήν, σὺν τοῖς θηρίοις τοῦ ἀγροῦ καὶ σὺν τοῖς ἑρπετοῖς τῆς γῆς καὶ σὺν τοῖς πετεινοῖς τοῦ οὐρανοῦ, καὶ οἱ ἰχθύες τῆς θαλάσσης ἐκλείψουσιν,Therefore the land mourns, and all who dwell in it will waste away with the beasts of the field and the birds of the air; even the fish of the sea disappear.

4ὅπως μηδεὶς μήτε δικάζηται μήτε ἐλέγχῃ μηδείς· ὁ δὲ λαός μου ὡς ἀντιλεγόμενος ἱερεύς.But let no man contend; let no man offer reproof; for your people are like those who contend with a priest.

5καὶ ἀσθενήσεις ἡμέρας, καὶ ἀσθενήσει ὁ προφήτης μετὰ σοῦ· νυκτὶ ὡμοίωσα τὴν μητέρα σου.You will stumble by day, and the prophet will stumble with you by night; so I will destroy your mother—

6ὡμοιώθη ὁ λαός μου ὡς οὐκ ἔχων γνῶσιν· ὅτι σὺ ἐπίγνωσιν ἀπώσω, κἀγὼ ἀπώσομαί σε τοῦ μὴ ἱερατεύειν μοι· καὶ ἐπελάθου νόμον Θεοῦ σου, κἀγὼ ἐπιλήσομαι τέκνων σου.My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you as My priests. Since you have forgotten the law of your God, I will also forget your children.

7κατὰ τὸ πλῆθος αὐτῶν οὕτως ἥμαρτόν μοι· τὴν δόξαν αὐτῶν εἰς ἀτιμίαν θήσομαι.The more they multiplied, the more they sinned against Me; they exchanged their Glory for a thing of disgrace.

8ἁμαρτίας λαοῦ μου φάγονται καὶ ἐν ταῖς ἀδικίαις αὐτῶν λήψονται τὰς ψυχὰς αὐτῶν.They feed on the sins of My people and set their hearts on iniquity.

9καὶ ἔσται καθὼς ὁ λαὸς οὕτως καὶ ὁ ἱερεύς· καὶ ἐκδικήσω ἐπ᾿ αὐτὸν τὰς ὁδοὺς αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰ διαβούλια αὐτοῦ ἀνταποδώσω αὐτῷ.And it shall be like people, like priest. I will punish both of them for their ways and repay them for their deeds.

10καὶ φάγονται καὶ οὐ μὴ ἐμπλησθῶσιν, ἐπόρνευσαν καὶ οὐ μὴ κατευθύνωσι, διότι τὸν Κύριον ἐγκατέλιπον τοῦ φυλάξαι.They will eat but not be satisfied; they will be promiscuous but not multiply. For they have abandoned the LORD to give themselves

11Πορνείαν καὶ οἶνον καὶ μέθυσμα ἐδέξατο καρδία λαοῦ μου.to promiscuity, wine, and new wine, which take away understanding.

12ἐν συμβόλοις ἐπηρώτων, καὶ ἐν ράβδοις αὐτοῦ ἀπήγγελλον αὐτῷ· πνεύματι πορνείας ἐπλανήθησαν καὶ ἐξεπόρνευσαν ἀπὸ τοῦ Θεοῦ αὐτῶν.My people consult their wooden idols, and their divining rods inform them. For a spirit of prostitution leads them astray and they have played the harlot against their God.

13ἐπὶ τὰς κορυφὰς τῶν ὀρέων ἐθυσίαζον καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς βουνοὺς ἔθυον, ὑποκάτω δρυὸς καὶ λεύκης καὶ δένδρου συσκιάζοντος, ὅτι καλὸν σκέπη. διὰ τοῦτο ἐκπορνεύσουσιν αἱ θυγατέρες ὑμῶν, καὶ αἱ νύμφαι ὑμῶν μοιχεύσουσι·They sacrifice on the mountaintops and burn offerings on the hills, under oak, poplar, and terebinth, because their shade is pleasant. And so your daughters turn to prostitution and your daughters-in-law to adultery.

14καὶ οὐ μὴ ἐπισκέψωμαι ἐπὶ τὰς θυγατέρας ὑμῶν, ὅταν πορνεύσωσι, καὶ ἐπὶ τὰς νύμφας ὑμῶν, ὅταν μοιχεύσωσιν· ὅτι αὐτοὶ μετὰ τῶν πορνῶν συνεφύροντο καὶ μετὰ τῶν τετελεσμένων ἔθυον, καὶ ὁ λαὸς ὁ συνίων συνεπλέκετο μετὰ πόρνης.I will not punish your daughters when they prostitute themselves, nor your daughters-in-law when they commit adultery. For the men themselves go off with prostitutes and offer sacrifices with shrine prostitutes. So a people without understanding will come to ruin.

15Σὺ δέ, Ἰσραήλ, μὴ ἀγνόει, καὶ Ἰούδα, μὴ εἰσπορεύεσθε εἰς Γάλγαλα καὶ μὴ ἀναβαίνετε εἰς τὸν Οἶκον Ὦν καὶ μὴ ὀμνύετε ζῶντα Κύριον.Though you prostitute yourself, O Israel, may Judah avoid such guilt! Do not journey to Gilgal, do not go up to Beth-aven, and do not swear on oath, ‘As surely as the LORD lives!’

16διότι ὡς δάμαλις παροιστρῶσα παροίστρησεν Ἰσραήλ· νῦν νεμήσει αὐτοὺς Κύριος ὡς ἀμνὸν ἐν εὐρυχώρῳ.For Israel is as obstinate as a stubborn heifer. Can the LORD now shepherd them like lambs in an open meadow?

17μέτοχος εἰδώλων Ἐφραὶμ ἔθηκεν ἑαυτῷ σκάνδαλα,Ephraim is joined to idols; leave him alone!

18ἡρέτισε Χαναναίους· πορνεύοντες ἐξεπόρνευσαν, ἠγάπησαν ἀτιμίαν ἐκ φρυάγματος αὐτῶν.When their liquor is gone, they turn to prostitution; their rulers dearly love disgrace.

19συστροφὴ πνεύματος σὺ εἶ ἐν ταῖς πτέρυξιν αὐτῆς, καὶ καταισχυνθήσονται ἐκ τῶν θυσιαστηρίων αὐτῶν.The whirlwind has wrapped them in its wings, and their sacrifices will bring them shame.
