1. 1LXXΤ… Αἰγύπτῳ ἐπὶ δύναμιν Φαραὼ Νεχαὼ βασιλέως Αἰγύπτου, ὃς ἦν ἐπὶ τῷ ποταμῷ Εὐφράτῃ ἐν Χαρχαμείς, ὃν ἐπάταξε Ναβουχοδονόσορ βασιλεὺς Βαβυλῶνος, ἐν τῷ ἔτει τῷ τετάρτῳ Ἰωακεὶμ βασιλέως Ἰούδα.BSBBSB: This is the word of the LORD about the nations—the word that came to Jeremiah the prophet
2. 3LXXἈναλάβετε ὅπλα καὶ ἀσπίδας καὶ προσαγάγετε εἰς πόλεμον·BSBBSB: “Deploy your shields, small and large; advance for battle!
3. 4LXXἐπισάξατε τοὺς ἵππους, ἐπίβητε, οἱ ἱππεῖς, καὶ κατάστητε ἐν ταῖς περικεφαλαίαις ὑμῶν· προβάλετε τά δόρατα καὶ ἐνδύσασθε τοὺς θώρακας ὑμῶν.BSBBSB: Harness the horses; mount the steeds; take your positions with helmets on! Polish your spears; put on armor!
4. 5LXXτί ὅτι αὐτοὶ πτοοῦνται καὶ ἀποχωροῦσιν εἰς τὰ ὀπίσω; διότι οἱ ἰσχυροὶ αὐτῶν κοπήσονται. φυγῇ ἔφυγον καὶ οὐκ ἀνέστρεψαν περιεχόμενοι κυκλόθεν, λέγει Κύριος.BSBBSB: Why am I seeing this? They are terrified, they are retreating; their warriors are defeated, they flee in haste without looking back; terror is on every side!” declares the LORD.
5. 6LXXμὴ φευγέτω ὁ κοῦφος, καὶ μὴ ἀνασωζέσθω ὁ ἰσχυρός· ἐπὶ βορρᾶν τὰ παρὰ τὸν Εὐφράτην ἠσθένησαν, πεπτώκασι.BSBBSB: “The swift cannot flee, and the warrior cannot escape! In the north by the River Euphrates they stumble and fall.
6. 7LXXτίς οὗτος ὡς ποταμὸς ἀναβήσεται καὶ ὡς ποταμοὶ κυμαίνουσιν ὕδωρ;BSBBSB: Who is this, rising like the Nile, like rivers whose waters churn?
7. 8LXXὕδατα Αἰγύπτου ὡσεὶ ποταμὸς ἀναβήσεται καὶ εἶπεν· ἀναβήσομαι καὶ κατακαλύψω τὴν γῆν καὶ ἀπολῶ τοὺς κατοικοῦντας ἐν αὐτῇ.BSBBSB: Egypt rises like the Nile, and its waters churn like rivers, boasting, ‘I will rise and cover the earth; I will destroy the cities and their people.’
8. 9LXXἐπίβητε ἐπὶ τοὺς ἵππους, παρασκευάσατε τὰ ἅρματα, ἐξέλθατε, οἱ μαχηταὶ Αἰθιόπων καὶ Λίβυες καθωπλισμένοι ὅπλοις· καὶ Λυδοί, ἀνάβητε, ἐντείνατε τόξον.BSBBSB: Advance, O horses! Race furiously, O chariots! Let the warriors come forth—Cush and Put carrying their shields, men of Lydia drawing the bow.
9. 10LXXκαὶ ἡ ἡμέρα ἐκείνη Κυρίῳ τῷ Θεῷ ἡμῶν ἡμέρα ἐκδικήσεως τοῦ ἐκδικῆσαι τοὺς ἐχθροὺς αὐτοῦ, καὶ καταφάγεται ἡ μάχαιρα Κυρίου καὶ ἐμπλησθήσεται καὶ μεθυσθήσεται ἀπὸ τοῦ αἵματος αὐτῶν, ὅτι θυσία τῷ Κυρίῳ σαβαὼθ ἀπὸ γῆς βορρᾶ ἐπὶ ποταμῷ Εὐφράτῃ.BSBBSB: For that day belongs to the Lord GOD of Hosts, a day of vengeance against His foes. The sword will devour until it is satisfied, until it is quenched with their blood. For the Lord GOD of Hosts will hold a sacrifice in the land of the north by the River Euphrates.
10. 11LXXἀνάβηθι Γαλαὰδ καὶ λάβε ρητίνην τῇ παρθένῳ θυγατρὶ Αἰγύπτου· εἰς κενὸν ἐπλήθυνας ἰάματά σου, ὠφέλεια οὐκ ἔστιν ἐν σοί.BSBBSB: Go up to Gilead for balm, O Virgin Daughter of Egypt! In vain you try many remedies, but for you there is no healing.
11. 12LXXἤκουσαν ἔθνη φωνήν σου, καὶ τῆς κραυγῆς σου ἐπλήσθη ἡ γῆ, ὅτι μαχητὴς πρὸς μαχητὴν ἠσθένησαν, ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτὸ ἔπεσαν ἀμφότεροι.BSBBSB: The nations have heard of your shame, and your outcry fills the earth, because warrior stumbles over warrior and both of them have fallen together.”
12. 13LXXἋ ἐλάλησε Κύριος ἐν χειρὶ Ἱερεμίου τοῦ ἐλθεῖν Ναβουχοδονόσορ τὸν βασιλέα Βαβυλῶνος τοῦ κόψαι γῆν Αἰγύπτου.BSBBSB: This is the word that the LORD spoke to Jeremiah the prophet about the coming of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to strike the land of Egypt:
13. 14LXXἈναγγείλατε εἰς Μάγδωλον καὶ παραγγείλατε εἰς Μέμφιν, εἴπατε· ἐπίστηθι καὶ ἑτοίμασον, ὅτι κατέφαγε μάχαιρα τὴν σμίλακά σου.BSBBSB: “Announce it in Egypt, and proclaim it in Migdol; proclaim it in Memphis and Tahpanhes: ‘Take your positions and prepare yourself, for the sword devours those around you.’
14. 15LXXδιατί ἔφυγεν ἀπὸ σοῦ ὁ Ἆπις; ὁ μόσχος ὁ ἐκλεκτός σου οὐκ ἔμεινεν, ὅτι Κύριος παρέλυσεν αὐτόν.BSBBSB: Why have your warriors been laid low? They cannot stand, for the LORD has thrust them down.
15. 16LXXκαὶ τὸ πλῆθός σου ἠσθένησε καὶ ἔπεσε, καὶ ἕκαστος πρὸς τὸν πλησίον αὐτοῦ ἐλάλει· ἀναστῶμεν καὶ ἀναστρέψωμεν πρὸς τὸν λαὸν ἡμῶν εἰς τὴν πατρίδα ἡμῶν ἀπὸ προσώπου μαχαίρας Ἑλληνικῆς.BSBBSB: They continue to stumble; indeed, they have fallen over one another. They say, ‘Get up! Let us return to our people and to the land of our birth, away from the sword of the oppressor.’
16. 17LXXκαλέσατε τὸ ὄνομα Φαραὼ Νεχαὼ βασιλέως Αἰγύπτου, Σαών- Ἐσβί- Ἐμωήδ.BSBBSB: There they will cry out: ‘Pharaoh king of Egypt was all noise; he has let the appointed time pass him by.’
17. 18LXXζῶ ἐγώ, λέγει Κύριος ὁ Θεός, ὅτι ὡς τὸ Ἰταβύριον ἐν τοῖς ὄρεσι καὶ ὡς ὁ Κάρμηλος ἐν τῇ θαλάσσῃ ἥξει.BSBBSB: As surely as I live, declares the King, whose name is the LORD of Hosts, there will come one who is like Tabor among the mountains and like Carmel by the sea.
18. 19LXXσκεύη ἀποικισμοῦ ποίησον σεαυτῇ, κατοικοῦσα θύγατερ Αἰγύπτου, ὅτι Μέμφις εἰς ἀφανισμὸν ἔσται καὶ κληθήσεται οὐαὶ διὰ τὸ μὴ ὑπάρχειν κατοικοῦντας ἐν αὐτῇ.BSBBSB: Pack your bags for exile, O daughter dwelling in Egypt! For Memphis will be laid waste, destroyed and uninhabited.
19. 20LXXδάμαλις κεκαλλωπισμένη Αἴγυπτος, ἀπόσπασμα ἀπὸ βορρᾶ ἦλθεν ἐπ' αὐτήν.BSBBSB: Egypt is a beautiful heifer, but a gadfly from the north is coming against her.
20. 21LXXκαὶ οἱ μισθωτοὶ αὐτῆς ἐν αὐτῇ ὥσπερ μόσχοι σιτευτοὶ τρεφόμενοι ἐν αὐτῇ, διότι καὶ αὐτοὶ ἀπεστράφησαν καὶ ἔφυγον ὁμοθυμαδόν, οὐκ ἔστησαν, ὅτι ἡμέρα ἀπωλείας ἦλθεν ἐπ' αὐτοὺς καὶ καιρὸς ἐκδικήσεως αὐτῶν.BSBBSB: Even the mercenaries among her are like fattened calves. They too will turn back; together they will flee, they will not stand their ground, for the day of calamity is coming upon them—the time of their punishment.
21. 22LXXφωνὴ ὡς ὄφεως συρίζοντος, ὅτι ἐν ἄμμῳ πορεύονται· ἐν ἀξίναις ἥξουσιν ἐπ' αὐτὴν ὡς κόπτοντες ξύλα.BSBBSB: Egypt will hiss like a fleeing serpent, for the enemy will advance in force; with axes they will come against her like woodsmen cutting down trees.
22. 23LXXἐκκόψουσι τὸν δρυμὸν αὐτῆς, λέγει Κύριος ὁ Θεός, ὅτι οὐ μὴ εἰκασθῇ, ὅτι πληθύνει ὑπὲρ ἀκρίδα καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν αὐτοῖς ἀριθμός.BSBBSB: They will chop down her forest, declares the LORD, dense though it may be, for they are more numerous than locusts; they cannot be counted.
23. 24LXXκατῃσχύνθη ἡ θυγάτηρ Αἰγύπτου, παρεδόθη εἰς χεῖρας λαοῦ ἀπὸ βορρᾶ.BSBBSB: The Daughter of Egypt will be put to shame; she will be delivered into the hands of the people of the north.”
24. 25LXXἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐκδικῶ τὸν Ἀμμὼν τὸν υἱὸν αὐτῆς ἐπὶ Φαραώ καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς πεποιθότας ἐπ' αὐτῷ.BSBBSB: The LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: “Behold, I am about to punish Amon god of Thebes, along with Pharaoh, Egypt with her gods and kings, and those who trust in Pharaoh.
25. 27LXXσὺ δὲ μὴ φοβηθῇς, δοῦλός μου Ἰακώβ, μηδὲ πτοηθῇς, Ἰσραήλ· διότι ἐγὼ ἰδοὺ σῴζων σε μακρόθεν καὶ τὸ σπέρμα σου ἐκ τῆς αἰχμαλωσίας αὐτῶν, καὶ ἀναστρέψει Ἰακὼβ καὶ ἡσυχάσει καὶ ὑπνώσει, καὶ οὐκ ἔσται ὁ παρενοχλῶν αὐτόν.BSBBSB: But you, O Jacob My servant, do not be afraid, and do not be dismayed, O Israel. For I will surely save you out of a distant place, your descendants from the land of their captivity! Jacob will return to quiet and ease, with no one to make him afraid.
26. 28LXXμὴ φοβοῦ, παῖς μου Ἰακώβ, λέγει Κύριος, ὅτι μετὰ σοῦ ἐγώ εἰμι· ἡ ἀπτόητος καὶ τρυφερὰ παρεδόθη· ὅτι ποιήσω ἔθνει συντέλειαν ἐν παντὶ ἔθνει, εἰς οὓς ἔξωσά σε ἐκεῖ, σὲ δὲ οὐ μὴ ποιήσω ἐκλιπεῖν· καὶ παιδεύσω σε εἰς κρίμα καὶ ἀθῷον οὐκ ἀθῳώσω σε.BSBBSB: And you, My servant Jacob, do not be afraid, declares the LORD, for I am with you. Though I will completely destroy all the nations to which I have banished you, I will not completely destroy you. Yet I will discipline you justly, and will by no means leave you unpunished.”
