1 STV Ἐγώ εἰμι ἡ ἄμπελος ἡ ἀληθινή καὶ ὁ πατήρ μου ὁ γεωργός ἐστιν BSB BSB: “I am the true vine, and My Father is the keeper of the vineyard.
2 STV πᾶν κλῆμα ἐν ἐμοὶ μὴ φέρον καρπόν αἴρει αὐτό καὶ πᾶν τὸ καρπὸν φέρον καθαίρει αὐτὸ ἵνα πλείονα καρπὸν φέρῃ BSB BSB: He cuts off every branch in Me that bears no fruit, and every branch that does bear fruit, He prunes to make it even more fruitful.
3 STV ἤδη ὑμεῖς καθαροί ἐστε διὰ τὸν λόγον ὃν λελάληκα ὑμῖν· BSB BSB: You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.
4 STV μείνατε ἐν ἐμοί κἀγὼ ἐν ὑμῖν καθὼς τὸ κλῆμα οὐ δύναται καρπὸν φέρειν ἀφ’ ἑαυτοῦ ἐὰν μὴ μείνῃ ἐν τῇ ἀμπέλῳ οὕτως οὐδὲ ὑμεῖς ἐὰν μὴ ἐν ἐμοὶ μείνητε BSB BSB: Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me.
5 STV ἐγώ εἰμι ἡ ἄμπελος ὑμεῖς τὰ κλήματα ὁ μένων ἐν ἐμοὶ κἀγὼ ἐν αὐτῷ οὗτος φέρει καρπὸν πολύν ὅτι χωρὶς ἐμοῦ οὐ δύνασθε ποιεῖν οὐδέν BSB BSB: I am the vine and you are the branches. The one who remains in Me, and I in him, will bear much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing.
6 STV ἐὰν μή τις μείνῃ ἐν ἐμοί ἐβλήθη ἔξω ὡς τὸ κλῆμα καὶ ἐξηράνθη καὶ συνάγουσιν αὐτὰ καὶ εἰς πῦρ βάλλουσιν καὶ καίεται BSB BSB: If anyone does not remain in Me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers. Such branches are gathered up, thrown into the fire, and burned.
7 STV ἐὰν μείνητε ἐν ἐμοὶ καὶ τὰ ῥήματά μου ἐν ὑμῖν μείνῃ ὃ ἐὰν θέλητε αἰτήσεσθε καὶ γενήσεται ὑμῖν BSB BSB: If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
8 STV ἐν τούτῳ ἐδοξάσθη ὁ πατήρ μου ἵνα καρπὸν πολὺν φέρητε καὶ γενήσεσθε ἐμοὶ μαθηταί BSB BSB: This is to My Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, proving yourselves to be My disciples.
9 STV καθὼς ἠγάπησέν με ὁ πατήρ κἀγὼ ἠγάπησα· ὑμᾶς μείνατε ἐν τῇ ἀγάπῃ τῇ ἐμῇ BSB BSB: As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you. Remain in My love.
10 STV ἐὰν τὰς ἐντολάς μου τηρήσητε μενεῖτε ἐν τῇ ἀγάπῃ μου καθὼς ἐγὼ τὰς ἐντολὰς τοῦ πατρός μου τετήρηκα καὶ μένω αὐτοῦ ἐν τῇ ἀγάπῃ BSB BSB: If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and remain in His love.
11 STV Ταῦτα λελάληκα ὑμῖν ἵνα ἡ χαρὰ ἡ ἐμὴ ἐν ὑμῖν μείνῃ, καὶ ᾖ χαρὰ ὑμῶν πληρωθῇ BSB BSB: I have told you these things so that My joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.
12 STV αὕτη ἐστὶν ἡ ἐντολὴ ἡ ἐμή ἵνα ἀγαπᾶτε ἀλλήλους καθὼς ἠγάπησα ὑμᾶς BSB BSB: This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
13 STV μείζονα ταύτης ἀγάπην οὐδεὶς ἔχει ἵνα τις τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ θῇ ὑπὲρ τῶν φίλων αὐτοῦ BSB BSB: Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
14 STV ὑμεῖς φίλοι μού ἐστε ἐὰν ποιῆτε ὅσα ἐγὼ ἐντέλλομαι ὑμῖν BSB BSB: You are My friends if you do what I command you.
15 STV οὐκέτι ὑμᾶς λέγω δούλους ὅτι ὁ δοῦλος οὐκ οἶδεν τί ποιεῖ αὐτοῦ ὁ κύριος· ὑμᾶς δὲ εἴρηκα φίλους ὅτι πάντα ἃ ἤκουσα παρὰ τοῦ πατρός μου ἐγνώρισα ὑμῖν BSB BSB: No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not understand what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because everything I have learned from My Father I have made known to you.
16 STV οὐχ ὑμεῖς με ἐξελέξασθε ἀλλ’ ἐγὼ ἐξελεξάμην ὑμᾶς καὶ ἔθηκα ὑμᾶς ἵνα ὑμεῖς ὑπάγητε καὶ καρπὸν φέρητε καὶ ὁ καρπὸς ὑμῶν μένῃ ἵνα ὅ τι ἂν αἰτήσητε τὸν πατέρα ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί μου δῷ ὑμῖν BSB BSB: You did not choose Me, but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will remain—so that whatever you ask the Father in My name, He will give you.
17 STV ταῦτα ἐντέλλομαι ὑμῖν ἵνα ἀγαπᾶτε ἀλλήλους BSB BSB: This is My command to you: Love one another.
18 STV Εἰ ὁ κόσμος ὑμᾶς μισεῖ γινώσκετε ὅτι ἐμὲ πρῶτον ὑμῶν μεμίσηκεν BSB BSB: If the world hates you, understand that it hated Me first.
19 STV εἰ ἐκ τοῦ κόσμου ἦτε ὁ κόσμος ἂν τὸ ἴδιον ἐφίλει· ὅτι δὲ ἐκ τοῦ κόσμου οὐκ ἐστέ ἀλλ’ ἐγὼ ἐξελεξάμην ὑμᾶς ἐκ τοῦ κόσμου διὰ τοῦτο μισεῖ ὑμᾶς ὁ κόσμος BSB BSB: If you were of the world, it would love you as its own. Instead, the world hates you, because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world.
20 STV μνημονεύετε τοῦ λόγου οὗ ἐγὼ εἶπον ὑμῖν Οὐκ ἔστιν δοῦλος μείζων τοῦ κυρίου αὐτοῦ εἰ ἐμὲ ἐδίωξαν καὶ ὑμᾶς διώξουσιν· εἰ τὸν λόγον μου ἐτήρησαν καὶ τὸν ὑμέτερον τηρήσουσιν BSB BSB: Remember the word that I spoke to you: ‘No servant is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will persecute you as well; if they kept My word, they will keep yours as well.
21 STV ἀλλὰ ταῦτα πάντα ποιήσουσιν ὑμῖν διὰ τὸ ὄνομά μου ὅτι οὐκ οἴδασιν τὸν πέμψαντά με BSB BSB: But they will treat you like this because of My name, since they do not know the One who sent Me.
22 STV εἰ μὴ ἦλθον καὶ ἐλάλησα αὐτοῖς ἁμαρτίαν οὐκ εἴχον· νῦν δὲ πρόφασιν οὐκ ἔχουσιν περὶ τῆς ἁμαρτίας αὐτῶν BSB BSB: If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin. Now, however, they have no excuse for their sin.
23 STV ὁ ἐμὲ μισῶν καὶ τὸν πατέρα μου μισεῖ BSB BSB: Whoever hates Me hates My Father as well.
24 STV εἰ τὰ ἔργα μὴ ἐποίησα ἐν αὐτοῖς ἃ οὐδεὶς ἄλλος πεποίηκεν, ἁμαρτίαν οὐκ εἴχον· νῦν δὲ καὶ ἑωράκασιν καὶ μεμισήκασιν καὶ ἐμὲ καὶ τὸν πατέρα μου BSB BSB: If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have seen and hated both Me and My Father.
25 STV ἀλλ’ ἵνα πληρωθῇ ὁ λόγος ὁ γεγραμμένος ἐν τῷ νόμῳ αὐτῶν ὅτι Ἐμίσησάν με δωρεάν BSB BSB: But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: ‘They hated Me without reason.’
27 STV καὶ ὑμεῖς δὲ μαρτυρεῖτε ὅτι ἀπ’ ἀρχῆς μετ’ ἐμοῦ ἐστε BSB BSB: And you also must testify, because you have been with Me from the beginning.
