STV Καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Ἰησοῦς πάλιν εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ἐν παραβολαῖς λέγων BSB BSB: Once again, Jesus spoke to them in parables:
STV Ὡμοιώθη ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν ἀνθρώπῳ βασιλεῖ ὅστις ἐποίησεν γάμους τῷ υἱῷ αὐτοῦ BSB BSB: “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son.
STV καὶ ἀπέστειλεν τοὺς δούλους αὐτοῦ καλέσαι τοὺς κεκλημένους εἰς τοὺς γάμους καὶ οὐκ ἤθελον ἐλθεῖν BSB BSB: He sent his servants to call those he had invited to the banquet, but they refused to come.
STV πάλιν ἀπέστειλεν ἄλλους δούλους λέγων, Εἴπατε τοῖς κεκλημένοις Ἰδού, τὸ ἄριστόν μου ἡτοίμασα, οἱ ταῦροί μου καὶ τὰ σιτιστὰ τεθυμένα καὶ πάντα ἕτοιμα· δεῦτε εἰς τοὺς γάμους BSB BSB: Again, he sent other servants and said, ‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner. My oxen and fattened cattle have been killed, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.’
STV οἱ δὲ ἀμελήσαντες ἀπῆλθον ὁ μὲν εἰς τὸν ἴδιον ἀγρόν, ὁ δὲ εἰς τὴν ἐμπορίαν αὐτοῦ· BSB BSB: But they paid no attention and went away, one to his field, another to his business.
STV οἱ δὲ λοιποὶ κρατήσαντες τοὺς δούλους αὐτοῦ ὕβρισαν καὶ ἀπέκτειναν BSB BSB: The rest seized his servants, mistreated them, and killed them.
STV ἀκούσας δὲ ὁ βασιλεὺς ὠργίσθη καὶ πέμψας τὰ στρατεύματα αὐτοῦ ἀπώλεσεν τοὺς φονεῖς ἐκείνους καὶ τὴν πόλιν αὐτῶν ἐνέπρησεν BSB BSB: The king was enraged, and he sent his troops to destroy those murderers and burn their city.
STV τότε λέγει τοῖς δούλοις αὐτοῦ Ὁ μὲν γάμος ἕτοιμός ἐστιν οἱ δὲ κεκλημένοι οὐκ ἦσαν ἄξιοι· BSB BSB: Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited were not worthy.
STV πορεύεσθε οὖν ἐπὶ τὰς διεξόδους τῶν ὁδῶν καὶ ὅσους ἂν εὕρητε καλέσατε εἰς τοὺς γάμους BSB BSB: Go therefore to the crossroads and invite to the banquet as many as you can find.’
STV καὶ ἐξελθόντες οἱ δοῦλοι ἐκεῖνοι εἰς τὰς ὁδοὺς συνήγαγον πάντας ὅσους εὗρον πονηρούς τε καὶ ἀγαθούς· καὶ ἐπλήσθη ὁ γάμος ἀνακειμένων BSB BSB: So the servants went out into the streets and gathered everyone they could find, both evil and good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.
STV εἰσελθὼν δὲ ὁ βασιλεὺς θεάσασθαι τοὺς ἀνακειμένους εἶδεν ἐκεῖ ἄνθρωπον οὐκ ἐνδεδυμένον ἔνδυμα γάμου BSB BSB: But when the king came in to see the guests, he spotted a man who was not dressed in wedding clothes.
STV καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ Ἑταῖρε πῶς εἰσῆλθες ὧδε μὴ ἔχων ἔνδυμα γάμου ὁ δὲ ἐφιμώθη BSB BSB: ‘Friend,’ he asked, ‘how did you get in here without wedding clothes?’ But the man was speechless.
STV τότε εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τοῖς διακόνοις Δήσαντες αὐτοῦ πόδας καὶ χεῖρας ἄρατε αὐτὸν καὶ ἐκβάλετε εἰς τὸ σκότος τὸ ἐξώτερον· ἐκεῖ ἔσται ὁ κλαυθμὸς καὶ ὁ βρυγμὸς τῶν ὀδόντων BSB BSB: Then the king told the servants, ‘Tie him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
STV πολλοὶ γάρ εἰσιν κλητοὶ ὀλίγοι δὲ ἐκλεκτοί BSB BSB: For many are called, but few are chosen.”
STV Τότε πορευθέντες οἱ Φαρισαῖοι συμβούλιον ἔλαβον ὅπως αὐτὸν παγιδεύσωσιν ἐν λόγῳ BSB BSB: Then the Pharisees went out and conspired to trap Jesus in His words.
STV καὶ ἀποστέλλουσιν αὐτῷ τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτῶν μετὰ τῶν Ἡρῳδιανῶν λέγοντες Διδάσκαλε οἴδαμεν ὅτι ἀληθὴς εἶ καὶ τὴν ὁδὸν τοῦ θεοῦ ἐν ἀληθείᾳ διδάσκεις καὶ οὐ μέλει σοι περὶ οὐδενός· οὐ γὰρ βλέπεις εἰς πρόσωπον ἀνθρώπων BSB BSB: They sent their disciples to Him along with the Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that You are honest and that You teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You seek favor from no one, because You pay no attention to external appearance.
STV εἰπὲ οὖν ἡμῖν τί σοι δοκεῖ· ἔξεστιν δοῦναι κῆνσον Καίσαρι ἢ οὔ BSB BSB: So tell us what You think: Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”
STV γνοὺς δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς τὴν πονηρίαν αὐτῶν εἶπεν Τί με πειράζετε ὑποκριταί BSB BSB: But Jesus knew their evil intent and said, “You hypocrites, why are you testing Me?
STV ἐπιδείξατέ μοι τὸ νόμισμα τοῦ κήνσου οἱ δὲ προσήνεγκαν αὐτῷ δηνάριον BSB BSB: Show Me the coin used for the tax.” And they brought Him a denarius.
STV καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς Τίνος ἡ εἰκὼν αὕτη καὶ ἡ ἐπιγραφή BSB BSB: “Whose image is this,” He asked, “and whose inscription?”
So Jesus told them, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”
STV καὶ ἀκούσαντες ἐθαύμασαν καὶ ἀφέντες αὐτὸν ἀπῆλθον BSB BSB: And when they heard this, they were amazed. So they left Him and went away.
STV λέγοντες, Διδάσκαλε, Μωσῆς εἶπεν, Ἐάν τις ἀποθάνῃ μὴ ἔχων τέκνα ἐπιγαμβρεύσει ὁ ἀδελφὸς αὐτοῦ τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀναστήσει σπέρμα τῷ ἀδελφῷ αὐτοῦ BSB BSB: “Teacher,” they said, “Moses declared that if a man dies without having children, his brother is to marry the widow and raise up offspring for him.
STV ἦσαν δὲ παρ’ ἡμῖν ἑπτὰ ἀδελφοί· καὶ ὁ πρῶτος γάμησας ἐτελεύτησεν καὶ μὴ ἔχων σπέρμα ἀφῆκεν τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ τῷ ἀδελφῷ αὐτοῦ· BSB BSB: Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died without having children. So he left his wife to his brother.
STV ὁμοίως καὶ ὁ δεύτερος καὶ ὁ τρίτος ἕως τῶν ἑπτά BSB BSB: The same thing happened to the second and third brothers, down to the seventh.
STV ὕστερον δὲ πάντων ἀπέθανεν καὶ ἡ γυνή BSB BSB: And last of all, the woman died.
STV ἐν τῇ οὖν ἀναστάσει τίνος τῶν ἑπτὰ ἔσται γυνή πάντες γὰρ ἔσχον αὐτήν· BSB BSB: In the resurrection, then, whose wife will she be of the seven? For all of them were married to her.”
STV ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Πλανᾶσθε μὴ εἰδότες τὰς γραφὰς μηδὲ τὴν δύναμιν τοῦ θεοῦ· BSB BSB: Jesus answered, “You are mistaken because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.
STV ἐν γὰρ τῇ ἀναστάσει οὔτε γαμοῦσιν οὔτε ἐκγαμίζονται, ἀλλ’ ὡς ἄγγελοι τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐν οὐρανῷ εἰσιν BSB BSB: In the resurrection, people will neither marry nor be given in marriage. Instead, they will be like the angels in heaven.
STV περὶ δὲ τῆς ἀναστάσεως τῶν νεκρῶν οὐκ ἀνέγνωτε τὸ ῥηθὲν ὑμῖν ὑπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ λέγοντος BSB BSB: But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what God said to you:
STV καὶ ἀκούσαντες οἱ ὄχλοι ἐξεπλήσσοντο ἐπὶ τῇ διδαχῇ αὐτοῦ BSB BSB: When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at His teaching.
STV Οἱ δὲ Φαρισαῖοι ἀκούσαντες ὅτι ἐφίμωσεν τοὺς Σαδδουκαίους συνήχθησαν ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτό BSB BSB: And when the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they themselves gathered together.
STV καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν εἷς ἐξ αὐτῶν νομικὸς πειράζων αὐτὸν καὶ λέγων BSB BSB: One of them, an expert in the law, tested Him with a question:
STV Διδάσκαλε, ποία ἐντολὴ μεγάλη ἐν τῷ νόμῳ; BSB BSB: “Teacher, which commandment is the greatest in the Law?”
STV ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτῷ, Ἀγαπήσεις κύριον τὸν θεόν σου ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ καρδίᾳ σου καὶ ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ ψυχῇ σου καὶ ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ διανοίᾳ σου· BSB BSB: Jesus declared, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
STV αὕτη ἐστὶν πρώτη καὶ μεγάλη ἐντολή BSB BSB: This is the first and greatest commandment.
STV δευτέρα δὲ ὁμοία αὐτῇ Ἀγαπήσεις τὸν πλησίον σου ὡς σεαυτόν BSB BSB: And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
STV ἐν ταύταις ταῖς δυσὶν ἐντολαῖς ὅλος ὁ νόμος καὶ οἱ προφῆται κρέμανται BSB BSB: All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
STV Συνηγμένων δὲ τῶν Φαρισαίων ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτοὺς ὁ Ἰησοῦς BSB BSB: While the Pharisees were assembled, Jesus questioned them:
STV λέγων, Τί ὑμῖν δοκεῖ περὶ τοῦ Χριστοῦ τίνος υἱός ἐστιν λέγουσιν αὐτῷ Τοῦ Δαβίδ BSB BSB: “What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is He?” “David’s,” they answered.
STV λέγει αὐτοῖς Πῶς οὖν Δαβὶδ ἐν πνεύματι κύριον αὐτὸν καλεῖ λέγων BSB BSB: Jesus said to them, “How then does David in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord’? For he says:
STV Εἶπεν ὁ κύριος τῷ κυρίῳ μου· Κάθου ἐκ δεξιῶν μου ἕως ἂν θῶ τοὺς ἐχθρούς σου ὑποπόδιον τῶν ποδῶν σου BSB BSB: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand until I put Your enemies under Your feet.”’
STV εἰ οὖν Δαβὶδ καλεῖ αὐτὸν κύριον πῶς υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ἐστιν BSB BSB: So if David calls Him ‘Lord,’ how can He be David’s son?”
STV καὶ οὐδεὶς ἐδύνατο αὐτῷ ἀποκριθῆναι λόγον οὐδὲ ἐτόλμησέν τις ἀπ’ ἐκείνης τῆς ἡμέρας ἐπερωτῆσαι αὐτὸν οὐκέτι BSB BSB: No one was able to answer a word, and from that day on no one dared to question Him any further.
