1 ULB ઘણા દિવસો પછી દુકાળના ત્રીજા વર્ષે યહોવાહનું વચન એલિયાની પાસે આવ્યું કે, "જા, આહાબ સમક્ષ હાજર થા અને હવે હું પૃથ્વી પર વરસાદ વરસાવીશ." BSB BSB: After a long time, in the third year of the drought, the word of the LORD came to Elijah: “Go and present yourself to Ahab, and I will send rain upon the face of the earth.”
2 ULB એલિયા આહાબને મળવા ગયો; એ સમયે સમરુનમાં સખત દુકાળ વ્યાપેલો હતો. BSB BSB: So Elijah went to present himself to Ahab. The famine was severe in Samaria,
3 ULB આહાબે ઓબાદ્યાને બોલાવ્યો. તે મહેલનો કારભારી હતો. હવે ઓબાદ્યા તો યહોવાહથી ઘણો બીતો હતો. BSB BSB: and Ahab summoned Obadiah, who was in charge of the palace. (Now Obadiah greatly feared the LORD,
4 ULB કેમ કે જયારે ઇઝબેલ યહોવાહના પ્રબોધકોને મારી નાખતી હતી, ત્યારે ઓબાદ્યાએ સો પ્રબોધકોને લઈને પચાસ પચાસની ટુકડી બનાવીને તેઓને ગુફામાં સંતાડ્યા હતા અને રોટલી તથા પાણીથી તેઓનું પોષણ કર્યું હતું. BSB BSB: for when Jezebel had slaughtered the prophets of the LORD, Obadiah had taken a hundred prophets and hidden them, fifty men per cave, providing them with food and water.)
5 ULB આહાબે ઓબાદ્યાને કહ્યું, "આખા દેશમાં ફરીને પાણીના સર્વ ઝરા આગળ તથા સર્વ નાળાંં આગળ જા. જેથી આપણને ઘાસચારો મળી આવે અને આપણે ઘોડા તથા ખચ્ચરના જીવ બચાવી શકીએ, કે જેથી આપણે બધાં જાનવરોને ખોઈ ન બેસીએ." BSB BSB: Then Ahab said to Obadiah, “Go throughout the land to every spring and every valley. Perhaps we will find grass to keep the horses and mules alive so that we will not have to destroy any livestock.”
6 ULB તેથી તેઓએ આખા દેશમાં ફરી વળવા માટે અંદરોઅંદર ભાગ પાડી લીધા. આહાબ એકલો એક બાજુએ ગયો અને ઓબાદ્યા બીજી બાજુ ગયો. BSB BSB: So they divided the land to explore. Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went the other way by himself.
7 ULB ઓબાદ્યા પોતાના માર્ગમાં હતો ત્યારે, ત્યાં તેને અચાનક એલિયા મળ્યો. ઓબાદ્યાએ તેને ઓળખીને સાષ્ટાંગ દંડવત પ્રણામ કરીને કહ્યું, "હે મારા માલિક એલિયા, એ શું તમે છો?" BSB BSB: Now as Obadiah went on his way, Elijah suddenly met him. When Obadiah recognized him, he fell facedown and said, “Is it you, my lord Elijah?”
8 ULB એલિયાએ તેને જવાબ આપ્યો. "હા, હું તે જ છું. જા તારા માલિક આહાબને કહે, 'જો, એલિયા અહીં છે." BSB BSB: “It is I,” he answered. “Go tell your master, ‘Elijah is here!’”
9 ULB ઓબાદ્યાએ જવાબ આપ્યો, "મેં શો અપરાધ કર્યો છે કે તું મને મારી નાખવા માટે આ તારા સેવકને આહાબના હાથમાં સોંપવા ઇચ્છે છે? BSB BSB: But Obadiah replied, “How have I sinned, that you are handing your servant over to Ahab to put me to death?
10 ULB તારા ઈશ્વર યહોવાહના સમ કે, એવી કોઈ પ્રજા કે રાજ્ય નથી કે, જ્યાં તારી શોધ કરવા મારા માલિકે માણસ મોકલ્યા ન હોય. જ્યારે તેઓએ કહ્યું, 'એલિયા અહીં નથી,' ત્યારે તમે તેઓને નથી મળ્યા, એ બાબતના સમ તેણે તે રાજ્ય તથા પ્રજાને ખવડાવ્યા. BSB BSB: As surely as the LORD your God lives, there is no nation or kingdom where my lord has not sent someone to search for you. When they said, ‘He is not here,’ he made that kingdom or nation swear that they had not found you.
11 ULB હવે તું કહે છે, 'જા તારા માલિક આહાબને કહે કે એલિયા અહીં છે.' BSB BSB: And now you say, ‘Go tell your master that Elijah is here!’
12 ULB હું તારી પાસેથી જઈશ કે, તરત યહોવાહનો આત્મા હું ન જાણું ત્યાં તને લઈ જશે. પછી હું જ્યારે જઈને આહાબને ખબર આપું અને જ્યારે તું તેને મળે નહિ, ત્યારે તે મને મારી નાખશે. પણ હું તારો સેવક, મારા બાળપણથી યહોવાહથી બીતો આવ્યો છું. BSB BSB: I do not know where the Spirit of the LORD may carry you off when I leave you. Then when I go and tell Ahab and he does not find you, he will kill me. But I, your servant, have feared the LORD from my youth.
13 ULB ઇઝબેલ યહોવાહના પ્રબોધકોને મારી નાખતી હતી ત્યારે મેં જે કર્યું એટલે મેં યહોવાહના પ્રબોધકોમાંથી સો માણસોને પચાસ પચાસની ટોળી કરીને ગુફામાં કેવા સંતાડ્યા અને રોટલી તથા પાણીથી તેઓનું પોષણ કર્યું, તેની ખબર મારા માલિકને નથી મળી શું? BSB BSB: Was it not reported to my lord what I did when Jezebel slaughtered the prophets of the LORD? I hid a hundred prophets of the LORD, fifty men per cave, and I provided them with food and water.
14 ULB અને હવે તું કહે છે, 'જા, તારા માલિકને કહે કે એલિયા અહીં છે,' આથી તે મને મારી નાખશે." BSB BSB: And now you say, ‘Go tell your lord that Elijah is here!’ He will kill me!”
15 ULB પછી એલિયાએ જવાબ આપ્યો, "સૈન્યોના યહોવાહ જેમની આગળ હું ઊભો રહું છું, તેમના સમ કે હું ચોક્કસ આજે તેને મળીશ." BSB BSB: Then Elijah said, “As surely as the LORD of Hosts lives, before whom I stand, I will present myself to Ahab today.”
16 ULB તેથી ઓબાદ્યા આહાબને મળ્યો; આહાબને કહ્યું એટલે તે એલિયાને મળ્યો. BSB BSB: So Obadiah went to inform Ahab, who went to meet Elijah.
17 ULB જ્યારે આહાબે એલિયાને જોયો ત્યારે તેણે તેને કહ્યું, "હે ઇઝરાયલને દુઃખ આપનાર, એ શું તું છે?" BSB BSB: When Ahab saw Elijah, he said to him, “Is that you, O troubler of Israel?”
18 ULB એલિયાએ જવાબ આપ્યો, "મેં ઇઝરાયલને દુઃખ આપ્યું નથી, પણ તેં તથા તારા પિતાના કુટુંબે યહોવાહની આજ્ઞાનો ત્યાગ કરીને તથા બઆલની પૂજા કરીને દુઃખ આપ્યું છે. BSB BSB: “I have not troubled Israel,” Elijah replied, “but you and your father’s house have, for you have forsaken the commandments of the LORD and have followed the Baals.
19 ULB હવે પછી, માણસ મોકલીને સર્વ ઇઝરાયલને, બઆલના ચારસો પચાસ પ્રબોધકો તથા ઇઝબેલની મેજ પર જમનારાં અશેરા દેવીના ચારસો પ્રબોધકોને કાર્મેલ પર્વત પર મારી પાસે એકત્ર કર." BSB BSB: Now summon all Israel to meet me on Mount Carmel, along with the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal and the four hundred prophets of Asherah who eat at Jezebel’s table.”
21 ULB એલિયાએ સર્વ લોકોની નજીક આવીને કહ્યું, "તમે ક્યાં સુધી બે મતની વચ્ચે ઢચુપચુ રહેશો? જો યહોવાહ ઈશ્વર હોય, તો તમે તેમને અનુસરો. પણ જો બઆલ દેવ હોય તો તેને અનુસરો." લોકો જવાબમાં એક પણ શબ્દ બોલી શક્યા નહિ. BSB BSB: Then Elijah approached all the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him. But if Baal is God, follow him.” But the people did not answer a word.
22 ULB પછી એલિયાએ લોકોને કહ્યું, "હું, હા, હું એકલો જ, યહોવાહનો પ્રબોધક બાકી રહ્યો છું, પણ બઆલના પ્રબોધકો તો ચારસો પચાસ છે. BSB BSB: Then Elijah said to the people, “I am the only remaining prophet of the LORD, but Baal has four hundred and fifty prophets.
23 ULB તો અમને બે બળદ આપો. તેઓ પોતાને માટે એક બળદ પસંદ કરીને એને કાપીને તેના ટુકડાં કરે અને તેને લાકડાં પર મૂકે અને નીચે આગ ન મૂકે. પણ હું બીજો બળદ તૈયાર કરીને તેને લાકડાં પર મૂકીશ અને નીચે આગ નહિ મૂકું. BSB BSB: Get two bulls for us. Let the prophets of Baal choose one bull for themselves, cut it into pieces, and place it on the wood but not light the fire. And I will prepare the other bull and place it on the wood but not light the fire.
24 ULB તમે તમારા દેવને વિનંતી કરજો અને હું યહોવાહને નામે વિનંતી કરીશ. અને જે ઈશ્વર અગ્નિ દ્વારા જવાબ આપે તેને જ ઈશ્વર માનવા." તેથી સર્વ લોકોએ જવાબ આપ્યો, "એ વાત સારી છે." BSB BSB: Then you may call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the LORD. The God who answers by fire, He is God.” And all the people answered, “What you say is good.”
25 ULB પછી એલિયાએ બઆલના પ્રબોધકોને કહ્યું, "તમે તમારે સારુ એક બળદ પસંદ કરો અને તેને કાપીને પહેલા તૈયાર કરો, કારણ તમે ઘણા છો, તમારા દેવને પ્રાર્થના કરો, પણ બળદની નીચે આગ લગાડશો નહિ." BSB BSB: Then Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, “Since you are so numerous, choose for yourselves one bull and prepare it first. Then call on the name of your god, but do not light the fire.”
26 ULB જે બળદ તેમને આપવામાં આવ્યો હતો તેને તેઓએ તૈયાર કર્યો અને સવારથી તે બપોર સુધી બઆલના નામે વિનંતી કર્યા કરી કે "ઓ બાલ, અમને જવાબ આપ." પણ ત્યાં કોઈ અવાજ ન હતો અને જવાબ આપનાર પણ કોઈ ન હતું. જે વેદી તેઓએ બાંધી હતી તેના ફરતે ગોળાકારે નૃત્ય પણ કર્યુ. BSB BSB: And they took the bull that was given them, prepared it, and called on the name of Baal from morning until noon, shouting, “O Baal, answer us!” But there was no sound, and no one answered as they leaped around the altar they had made.
27 ULB આમ અને આમ બપોર થઈ ગઈ એટલે એલિયા તેઓની મશ્કરી કરીને બોલ્યો, "હજી મોટા સાદે બૂમો પાડો! તે દેવ છે! કદાચ એ વિચારમાં ઊંડો ડૂબી ગયો હશે! અથવા કંઈ કામમાં ગૂંથાયો હશે કે, મુસાફરીમાં હશે, કદાચ ઊંઘી પણ ગયો હોય તો જગાડવો પણ પડે." BSB BSB: At noon Elijah began to taunt them, saying, “Shout louder, for he is a god! Perhaps he is deep in thought, or occupied, or on a journey. Perhaps he is sleeping and must be awakened!”
28 ULB તેથી તેઓ વધારે મોટે સાદે બૂમો પાડવા લાગ્યા અને જેમ તેઓ કરતા હતા તેમ તલવાર અને ભાલા વડે પોતાનાં શરીર પર એવા ઘા કરવા લાગ્યા કે, લોહી વહેવા લાગ્યું. BSB BSB: So they shouted louder and cut themselves with knives and lances, as was their custom, until the blood gushed over them.
29 ULB બપોર વીતી ગઈ અને છેક સાંજનું અર્પણ ચઢાવવાના સમય સુધી તેઓએ પ્રબોધ કર્યો. પણ ત્યાં કંઈ અવાજ હતો નહિ કે તેમને સાંભળનાર તથા તેમની પર ધ્યાન આપનાર કોઈ હતું નહિ. BSB BSB: Midday passed, and they kept on raving until the time of the evening sacrifice. But there was no response; no one answered, no one paid attention.
30 ULB પછી એલિયાએ બધા લોકોને કહ્યું, "અહીં મારી નજીક આવો." લોકો તેની પાસે નજીક આવ્યા; યહોવાહની વેદી જે તોડી નાખવામાં આવી હતી, તેને તેણે સમારી. BSB BSB: Then Elijah said to all the people, “Come near to me.” So all the people approached him, and he repaired the altar of the LORD that had been torn down.
31 ULB યાકૂબ કે જેની પાસે યહોવાહનું એવું વચન આવ્યું હતું કે, "તારું નામ ઇઝરાયલ થશે." તેના પુત્રોના કુળસમૂહોની સંખ્યા પ્રમાણે તેણે બાર પથ્થર લીધા. BSB BSB: And Elijah took twelve stones, one for each tribe of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the LORD had come and said, “Israel shall be your name.”
32 ULB તે પથ્થરો વડે એલિયાએ યહોવાહને નામે એક વેદી બનાવી. તેણે તેે વેદીની આસપાસ બે હાથ પહોળી ખાઈ ખોદી. BSB BSB: And with the stones, Elijah built an altar in the name of the LORD. Then he dug a trench around the altar large enough to hold two seahs of seed.
33 ULB પછી તેણે આગને સારુ લાકડાં પણ ગોઠવ્યાં. બળદને કાપીને ટુકડાં કર્યા અને તેને લાકડાં પર મૂક્યા. પછી તેણે કહ્યું કે, "ચાર ઘડા પાણી ભરી લાવીને દહનીયાર્પણ પર અને લાકડાં પર રેડો." BSB BSB: Next, he arranged the wood, cut up the bull, placed it on the wood,
34 ULB વળી તેણે કહ્યું, "આમ બીજી વાર પણ કરો." અને તેઓએ તેમ બીજી વાર કર્યું. પછી તેણે કહ્યું, "આમ ત્રીજી વાર પણ કરો." અને તેઓએ તેમ ત્રીજી વાર પણ કર્યું. BSB BSB: and said, “Fill four waterpots and pour the water on the offering and on the wood.” “Do it a second time,” he said, and they did it a second time. “Do it a third time,” he said, and they did it a third time.
35 ULB તેથી પાણી વેદીની ચારે બાજુએ ફેલાઈ ગયું. અને પેલો ખાડો પણ પાણીથી છલકાઈ ગયો. BSB BSB: So the water ran down around the altar and even filled the trench.
36 ULB સાંજે અર્પણના સમયે એલિયા પ્રબોધક નજીક આવીને બોલ્યો, "ઓ ઇબ્રાહિમ, ઇસહાક અને યાકૂબના ઈશ્વર યહોવાહ, તમે જ ઇઝરાયલમાં ઈશ્વર છો. હું તમારો સેવક છું અને આ બધું મેં તમારા કહેવાથી કર્યું છે એમ આજે આ લોકોને ખબર પડવા દો. BSB BSB: At the time of the evening sacrifice, Elijah the prophet approached the altar and said, “O LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel and that I am Your servant and have done all these things at Your command.
37 ULB હે યહોવાહ, મારું સાંભળો, મારું સાંભળો. જેથી આ લોકો જાણે કે, તમે જ યહોવાહ ઈશ્વર છો અને તમે જ તેઓનાં હૃદય પાછાં પોતાના તરફ ફેરવ્યાં છે." BSB BSB: Answer me, O LORD! Answer me, so that this people will know that You, the LORD, are God, and that You have turned their hearts back again.”
38 ULB પછી એકાએક યહોવાહનાં અગ્નિએ પડીને દહનીયાર્પણ, લાકડાં, પથ્થર અને ધૂળ બાળીને ભસ્મ કરી નાખ્યાં અને તે ખાડાના પાણીને પણ સૂકવી નાખ્યાં. BSB BSB: Then the fire of the LORD fell and consumed the sacrifice, the wood, the stones, and the dust, and it licked up the water in the trench.
39 ULB જ્યારે લોકોએ આ જોયું ત્યારે તેઓએ દંડવત પ્રણામ કર્યા અને કહ્યું, "યહોવાહ એ જ ઈશ્વર છે! યહોવાહ એ જ ઈશ્વર છે!" BSB BSB: When all the people saw this, they fell facedown and said, “The LORD, He is God! The LORD, He is God!”
40 ULB એલિયાએ કહ્યું, "બઆલના પ્રબોધકોને પકડો. તેઓમાંથી એકને પણ નાસી જવા ન દો." તેથી લોકોએ તેઓને પકડી લીધા અને એલિયાએ તેમને કીશોન નાળાંની તળેટીમાં લાવીને મારી નાખ્યા. BSB BSB: Then Elijah ordered them, “Seize the prophets of Baal! Do not let a single one escape.” So they seized them, and Elijah brought them down to the Kishon Valley and slaughtered them there.
41 ULB એલિયાએ આહાબને કહ્યું, "ઊઠ, ખા તથા પી, કારણ, મને ધોધમાર વરસાદનો અવાજ સંભળાય છે." BSB BSB: And Elijah said to Ahab, “Go up, eat and drink, for there is the sound of a heavy rain.”
42 ULB તેથી આહાબ ખાવાપીવા માટે ઉપર ગયો. પછી એલિયા, કાર્મેલ પર્વતના શિખર સુધી ગયો અને જમીન પર નીચા નમીને તેણે પોતાનું મુખ પોતાના ઘૂંટણો વચ્ચે રાખ્યું. BSB BSB: So Ahab went up to eat and drink. But Elijah climbed to the summit of Carmel, bent down on the ground, and put his face between his knees.
43 ULB તેણે પોતાના ચાકરને કહ્યું, "હવે ઉપર જઈને સમુદ્ર તરફ નજર કર." ઉપર જઈને નજર કરીને તે બોલ્યો, "ત્યાં કશું નથી." તેથી એલિયાએ કહ્યું, "ફરી સાત વાર જા." BSB BSB: “Go and look toward the sea,” he said to his servant. So the servant went and looked, and he said, “There is nothing there.” Seven times Elijah said, “Go back.”
44 ULB સાતમી વખતે તે ચાકર બોલ્યો, "જો, માણસના હાથની હથેળી જેટલું નાનું વાદળું સમુદ્રમાંથી ઉપર ચઢે છે." ત્યારે એલિયાએ જવાબ આપ્યો કે, "ઉપર જઈને આહાબને કહે, વરસાદ તને અટકાવે તે પહેલાં રથ જોડીને નીચે ઊતરી આવ." BSB BSB: On the seventh time the servant reported, “There is a cloud as small as a man’s hand rising from the sea.” And Elijah replied, “Go and tell Ahab, ‘Prepare your chariot and go down before the rain stops you.’”
45 ULB અને થોડી વારમાં એમ થયું કે આકાશ વાદળથી તથા પવનથી અંધારાયું અને ધોધમાર વરસાદ વરસ્યો. આહાબ રથમાં બેસીને યિઝ્રએલ ગયો. BSB BSB: Meanwhile, the sky grew dark with clouds and wind, and a heavy rain began to fall. So Ahab rode away and went to Jezreel.
46 ULB પણ યહોવાહનો હાથ એલિયા પર હતો. તે કમર બાંધીને તેનો ઝભ્ભો થોડો ઊંચો કરીને આહાબના રથની આગળ છેક તે યિઝ્રએલના પ્રવેશદ્વાર સુધી દોડતો ગયો. BSB BSB: And the hand of the LORD came upon Elijah, and he tucked his cloak into his belt and ran ahead of Ahab all the way to Jezreel.
