1 ULB ઈશ્વરનો કોપ ફરીથી ઇઝરાયલ ઉપર સળગ્યો, તેમણે દાઉદને તેઓની વિરુદ્ધ ઉશ્કેરીને કહ્યું, "જા, ઇઝરાયલ તથા યહૂદિયાની વસ્તી ગણતરી કર." BSB BSB: Again the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He stirred up David against them, saying, “Go and take a census of Israel and Judah.”
2 ULB રાજાએ યોઆબ સેનાપતિને કે જે તેની સાથે હતો તેને કહ્યું, "દાનથી તે બેરશેબા સુધી ઇઝરાયલનાં સર્વ કુળોમાં ફરીને લોકોની ગણતરી કર કે, હું લોકોની કુલ સંખ્યા જાણું કે જેઓ યુદ્ધને માટે તૈયાર છે." BSB BSB: So the king said to Joab the commander of his army, who was with him, “Go now throughout the tribes of Israel from Dan to Beersheba and register the troops, so that I may know their number.”
3 ULB યોઆબે રાજાને કહ્યું, "લોકો ગમે તેટલાં હોય, તો પણ તમારા પ્રભુ ઈશ્વર તેઓને સોગણાં વધારો અને તું મારો માલિક રાજા પોતાની આંખે તે જુએ. પણ હે રાજા આ વાતમાં તું કેમ આનંદ માને છે?" BSB BSB: But Joab replied to the king, “May the LORD your God multiply the troops a hundred times over, and may the eyes of my lord the king see it. But why does my lord the king want to do such a thing?”
4 ULB તોપણ રાજાનું વચન યોઆબની તથા સૈન્યના સરદારોની ઉપર અસરકારક થયું. તેથી યોઆબ તથા સૈન્યના સરદારો ઇઝરાયલના લોકોની ગણતરી કરવાને રાજાની હજૂરમાંથી ગયા. BSB BSB: Nevertheless, the king’s word prevailed against Joab and against the commanders of the army. So Joab and the commanders of the army departed from the presence of the king to register the troops of Israel.
5 ULB તેઓએ યર્દન ઊતરીને દક્ષિણ તરફના નગર અરોએરની ખીણમાં છાવણી કરી. પછી તેઓએ ગાદથી યાઝેર સુધી મુસાફરી કરી. BSB BSB: They crossed the Jordan and camped near Aroer, south of the town in the middle of the valley, and proceeded toward Gad and Jazer.
6 ULB તેઓ ગિલ્યાદ તથા તાહતીમ-હોદશીના દેશમાં આવ્યા, પછી તેઓ દાન-યાઆનમાં આવ્યા અને ચારેબાજુ ફરીને તેઓ સિદોન ભણી ગયા. BSB BSB: Then they went to Gilead and the land of Tahtim-hodshi, and on to Dan-jaan and around to Sidon.
7 ULB તૂરના મજબૂત કિલ્લામાં, હિવ્વીઓના તથા કનાનીઓના સર્વ નગરોમાં તેઓ પહોંચ્યા. પછી તેઓ યહૂદિયાના નેગેબમાં બેરશેબામાં ગયા. BSB BSB: They went toward the fortress of Tyre and all the cities of the Hivites and Canaanites. Finally, they went on to the Negev of Judah, to Beersheba.
8 ULB એમ આખા દેશમાં સ્થળે ફરીને વસ્તી ગણતરી કરી. નવ મહિના અને વીસ દિવસે તેઓ યરુશાલેમમાં પાછા આવ્યા. BSB BSB: At the end of nine months and twenty days, having gone through the whole land, they returned to Jerusalem.
9 ULB પછી યોઆબે રાજા આગળ યોદ્ધાઓની ગણતરીની કુલ સંખ્યા રજૂ કરી.તે મુજબ ઇઝરાયલમાં તલવાર ચલાવનાર આઠ લાખ શૂરવીર પુરુષો તથા યહૂદિયામાં એવા પાંચ લાખ પુરુષો હતા. BSB BSB: And Joab reported to the king the total number of the troops. In Israel there were 800,000 men of valor who drew the sword, and in Judah there were 500,000.
10 ULB દાઉદે માણસોની ગણતરી કરાવ્યા પછી તે પોતાના હૃદયમાં ખિન્ન થયો. તેથી દાઉદે ઈશ્વરને કહ્યું, "મેં આ કરીને મોટું પાપ કર્યું છે. હવે, હે ઈશ્વર, કૃપા કરી તારા સેવકનો દોષ દૂર કર, કેમ કે મેં ઘણું મૂર્ખતાભર્યું કામ કર્યું છે." BSB BSB: After David had numbered the troops, his conscience was stricken and he said to the LORD, “I have sinned greatly in what I have done. Now, O LORD, I beg You to take away the iniquity of Your servant, for I have acted very foolishly.”
11 ULB જયારે દાઉદ સવારે ઊઠ્યો, તે અગાઉ દાઉદ અને ઈશ્વર વચ્ચેના મધ્યસ્થ ગાદ પ્રબોધકની પાસે ઈશ્વરનું વચન આવ્યું કે BSB BSB: When David got up in the morning, the word of the LORD had come to Gad the prophet, David’s seer:
12 ULB તું દાઉદ પાસે જઈને તેને કહે 'ઈશ્વર એમ કહે છે કે: હું તારી આગળ ત્રણ વિકલ્પો મૂકું છું. તેમાંથી એક તું પસંદ કર કે તે પ્રમાણે હું તને કરું. BSB BSB: “Go and tell David that this is what the LORD says: ‘I am offering you three options. Choose one of them, and I will carry it out against you.’”
13 ULB માટે ગાદે દાઉદ પાસે આવીને તેને કહ્યું, "તારા અપરાધને લીધે દેશમાં સાત વર્ષ સુધી દુકાળ આવે? અથવા તારા શત્રુઓ તારી પાછળ લાગે અને તું ત્રણ મહિના સુધી તેઓની આગળ નાસી જાય? અથવા તારા દેશમાં ત્રણ દિવસ સુધી મરકી ચાલે? હવે આ ત્રણ બાબતોમાંથી કોઈ એકની પસંદગી કરીને જણાવ. તે પ્રમાણેનો જવાબ હું મને મોકલનાર ઈશ્વરને આપીશ.'' BSB BSB: So Gad went and said to David, “Do you choose to endure three years of famine in your land, three months of fleeing the pursuit of your enemies, or three days of plague upon your land? Now then, think it over and decide how I should reply to Him who sent me.”
14 ULB ત્યારે દાઉદે ગાદને કહ્યું, "હું ઘણી મુશ્કેલીમાં છું. માણસનાં હાથમાં પડવા કરતાં આપણે ઈશ્વરના હાથમાં જ પડીએ એ સારું છે. કેમ કે તેમની દયા પુષ્કળ છે". BSB BSB: David answered Gad, “I am deeply distressed. Please, let us fall into the hand of the LORD, for His mercies are great; but do not let me fall into the hands of men.”
15 ULB તેથી ઈશ્વરે ઇઝરાયલમાં સવારથી તે ઠરાવેલા સમય સુધી મરકી મોકલી દાનથી તે બેરશેબા સુધી લોકોમાંથી સિત્તેર હજાર માણસો મરણ પામ્યા. BSB BSB: So the LORD sent a plague upon Israel from that morning until the appointed time, and seventy thousand of the people from Dan to Beersheba died.
16 ULB દૂતે યરુશાલેમનો નાશ કરવાને પોતાનો હાથ તેની તરફ લંબાવ્યો, ત્યારે ઈશ્વરે યરુશાલેમનું નુકસાન કરવાથી તેના મનને બદલી નાખ્યું જે દૂત લોકોનો નાશ કરતો હતો, તેને તેમણે કહ્યું, "હવે બસ! તારો હાથ પાછો લે." તે સમયે ઈશ્વરનો દૂત અરાવ્નાહ યબૂસીની ખળી પાસે ઊભો હતો. BSB BSB: But when the angel stretched out his hand to destroy Jerusalem, the LORD relented from the calamity and said to the angel who was destroying the people, “Enough! Withdraw your hand now!” At that time the angel of the LORD was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.
17 ULB અને જે દૂત લોકોને મારતો હતો તેને જોઈને દાઉદે ઈશ્વરને કહ્યું, "જો, મેં તો પાપ કર્યું છે તથા દુષ્ટ કામ પણ કર્યા છે. પણ આ ઘેટાંએ શું કર્યું છે? કૃપા કરી તમારો હાથ મારી વિરુદ્ધ તથા મારા પિતાના ઘરની વિરુદ્ધ કરો, ઘેટાંની વિરુદ્ધ નહિ." BSB BSB: When David saw the angel striking down the people, he said to the LORD, “Surely I, the shepherd, have sinned and acted wickedly. But these sheep, what have they done? Please, let Your hand fall upon me and my father’s house.”
18 ULB તે દિવસે ગાદે દાઉદ પાસે આવીને કહ્યું, "જા અરાવ્નાહ યબૂસીની ખળીમાં ઈશ્વરને માટે વેદી બાંધ." BSB BSB: And that day Gad came to David and said to him, “Go up and build an altar to the LORD on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.”
19 ULB માટે ગાદના કહેવા પ્રમાણે, ઈશ્વરે આજ્ઞા કરી હતી તે મુજબ, દાઉદ ગયો. BSB BSB: So David went up at the word of Gad, just as the LORD had commanded.
20 ULB અરાવ્નાહે બહાર નજર કરી, તો તેણે રાજાને તથા તેના ચાકરોને પોતાની નજીક આવતા જોયા. માટે અરાવ્નાહ તેઓની સામે ગયો. તેણે રાજાને સાષ્ટાંગ દંડવત્ પ્રણામ કર્યા. BSB BSB: When Araunah looked out and saw the king and his servants coming toward him, he went out and bowed facedown before the king.
21 ULB પછી અરાવ્નાહે કહ્યું, "મારો માલિક રાજા પોતાના ચાકરની પાસે કેમ આવ્યો છે?" દાઉદે કહ્યું, લોકોમાંથી મરકી બંધ થાય માટે ઈશ્વરને સારુ વેદી બાંધવા માટે તારી પાસેથી આ ખળી વેચાતી લેવાને હું આવ્યો છું. BSB BSB: “Why has my lord the king come to his servant?” Araunah said. “To buy your threshing floor,” David replied, “that I may build an altar to the LORD, so that the plague upon the people may be halted.”
22 ULB અરાવ્નાહે દાઉદને કહ્યું, "મારા માલિક રાજા,ખળી તારી પોતાની છે એમ સમજીને લે. તારી દ્રષ્ટિમાં જે સારું લાગે તે કર. જો, અહીં દહનીયાર્પણને માટે બળદો અને લાકડાને માટે ખળીના ઓજારો તથા બળદોનો સામાન છે. BSB BSB: Araunah said to David, “May my lord the king take whatever seems good to him and offer it up. Here are the oxen for a burnt offering and the threshing sledges and ox yokes for the wood.
23 ULB હે મારા રાજા, હું અરાવ્નાહ આ બધું તને આપું છું." પછી અરાવ્નાહે રાજાને કહ્યું, "તારા પ્રભુ ઈશ્વર તને માન્ય કરો." BSB BSB: O king, Araunah gives all these to the king.” He also said to the king, “May the LORD your God accept you.”
24 ULB રાજાએ અરાવ્નાહને કહ્યું, "એમ નહિ, હું નિશ્ચે મૂલ્ય આપીને તે તારી પાસેથી વેચાતું લઈશ. મેં જેની કિંમત ચૂકવી ન હોય તેનું હું મારા પ્રભુ ઈશ્વરની આગળ કેવી રીતે દહનીયાર્પણ કરું?" તેથી દાઉદે પચાસ શેકેલ ૫૭૫ ગ્રામ ચાંદી આપીને ખળી તથા બળદોને ખરીદી લીધા. BSB BSB: “No,” replied the king, “I insist on paying a price, for I will not offer to the LORD my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
25 ULB દાઉદે ત્યાં ઈશ્વરને માટે વેદી બાંધી અને તેની ઉપર દહનીયાર્પણો તથા શાંત્યર્પણો ચઢાવ્યા. એમ ઈશ્વર દેશ ઉપર પ્રસન્ન થયા અને ઇઝરાયલમાંથી મરકી બંધ થઈ. BSB BSB: And there he built an altar to the LORD and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. Then the LORD answered the prayers on behalf of the land, and the plague upon Israel was halted.
