So they brought in some troublemakers from the marketplace, formed a mob, and sent the city into an uproar. They raided Jason’s house in search of Paul and Silas, hoping to bring them out to the people.

8और ये बातें सुनकर उन्होंने भीड़ और नगर के अधिकारियों में हलचल मचा दी।On hearing this, the crowd and city officials were greatly disturbed.

9और यासोन और बाकियों से जमानत पर, उन्होंने उन्हें छोड़ दिया।And they collected bond from Jason and the others and then released them.

10परन्तु भाइयों ने तुरन्त रात ही में पौलुस और सीलास को बिरीया भेज दिया, जो वहाँ पहुँचकर यहूदियों के आराधनालय में गए।As soon as night had fallen, the brothers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went into the Jewish synagogue.

11अब ये उन{ लोगों से} अधिक भले थे जो थिस्सलुनीके थे, जिन्होंने हर दिन पवित्रशास्त्र की जाँच करते हुए, कि ये बातें ऐसी ही हो सकती हैं या नहीं, वचन को बड़ी तत्परता से ग्रहण किया था।Now the Bereans were more noble-minded than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if these teachings were true.

12तब वास्तव में उनमें से बहुतों ने, यहाँ तक कि प्रभावशाली यूनानी स्त्रियों ने और बहुत से पुरुषों ने भी विश्वास किया।As a result, many of them believed, along with quite a few prominent Greek women and men.

13परन्तु जब थिस्सलुनीके के यहूदियों को मालूम हुआ कि पौलुस के द्वारा बिरीया में भी परमेश्वर के वचन की घोषणा की जा रही थी, तो वे लोगों को उकसाने और परेशान करने वहाँ भी आए।But when the Jews from Thessalonica learned that Paul was also proclaiming the word of God in Berea, they went there themselves to incite and agitate the crowds.

14अत: तब भाइयों ने तुरन्त पौलुस को समुद्र के किनारे तक चले जाने के लिए भेज दिया, परन्तु सीलास और तीमुथियुस दोनों वहीं ठहरे रहे।The brothers immediately sent Paul to the coast, but Silas and Timothy remained in Berea.

15परन्तु पौलुस के पहुँचाने वाले उसे एथेंस तक ले आए, और सीलास और तीमुथियुस के लिए यह आज्ञा पाकर कि उन्हें जितनी जल्दी सम्भव हो उसके पास आना चाहिए, वे चले गए।Those who escorted Paul brought him to Athens and then returned with instructions for Silas and Timothy to join him as soon as possible.

16अब जिस समय पौलुस एथेंस में उनकी प्रतीक्षा कर रहा था, तो नगर को मूर्तियों से भरा हुआ देखकर उसकी आत्मा भीतर से व्याकुल हो रही थी।While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was deeply disturbed in his spirit to see that the city was full of idols.

17अत: उसने वास्तव में आराधनालय में यहूदियों और आराधना करने वालों से और चौक में हर दिन उससे मिलने वालों से तर्क किया।So he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and God-fearing Gentiles, and in the marketplace with those he met each day.

Some of them asked, “What is this babbler trying to say?” Others said, “He seems to be advocating foreign gods.” They said this because Paul was proclaiming the good news of Jesus and the resurrection.

19और उसे पकड़कर, वे उसे अरियुपगुस के पास यह कहकर ले आए,“क्या हम यह जानने में सक्षम हैं कि यह नयी शिक्षा क्या{ है} जो तेरे द्वारा बताई जा रही है?So they took Paul and brought him to the Areopagus, where they asked him, “May we know what this new teaching is that you are presenting?

20क्योंकि तू हमारे कानों में कुछ अचरज में डालने वाली बातें ला रहा है। इस कारण, हम जानना चाहते हैं कि ये बातें क्या अर्थ रखती हैं।”For you are bringing some strange notions to our ears, and we want to know what they mean.”

21(अब सभी एथेंसवासी और पराए देशवासी अपना खाली समय कुछ नया कहने या कुछ नया सुनने के अलावा किसी और काम में नहीं लगाते थे।)Now all the Athenians and foreigners who lived there spent their time doing nothing more than hearing and articulating new ideas.

22और पौलुस, अरियुपगुस के बीच में खड़े होकर, कहने लगा,“हे एथेंस के लोगों, मैं देखता हूँ कि कैसे तुम हर बात में अधिक धार्मिक हो।Then Paul stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said, “Men of Athens, I see that in every way you are very religious.

23क्योंकि तुम्हारी उपासना की वस्तुओं के बीच में होकर जाते हुए, ध्यान से देखा तो मैंने एक वेदी भी पाई जिस पर यह खोदकर लिखा हुआ था,‘अज्ञात परमेश्वर के लिए।’ इस कारण, जिसकी उपासना तुम न जानते हुए भी करते हो, मैं तुम पर उसकी घोषणा करता हूँ।For as I walked around and examined your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore what you worship as something unknown, I now proclaim to you.

24परमेश्वर ने जगत और उसमें की सब वस्तुओं को बनाया, और वह स्वर्ग और पृथ्वी का स्वामी होकर, हाथ के बनाए हुए मन्दिरों में नहीं रहता।The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples made by human hands.

25और न ही वह मनुष्यों के हाथों से इस प्रकार सेवा पाता है, जैसे उसे किसी वस्तु की आवश्यकता हो, क्योंकि वही तो सबको जीवन, श्वास और सब कुछ प्रदान करता है।Nor is He served by human hands, as if He needed anything, because He Himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else.

26और उसने एक ही मनुष्य से सब जातियों को उत्पन्न किया कि वे सारी पृथ्वी पर बसें, और{ उनके} रहने के समय और निवास की सीमाएँ पहले ही ठहराईं,From one man He made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their lands.

27परमेश्वर को खोजने के लिए, यदि सम्भवतः वे उसे खोज पाते और पा लेते, तौभी वास्तव में वह हम में से किसी से भी दूर नहीं है।God intended that they would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us.

28क्योंकि‘हम उसी में जीवित हैं और चलते हैं और मौजूद हैं,’ और जैसा तुम्हारे अपने कुछ कवियों ने कहा है,‘क्योंकि हम भी उसी के वंश{ हैं}।’‘For in Him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are His offspring.’

29इस कारण, परमेश्वर का वंश होकर, हमें उस दिव्य को सोने या चाँदी या पत्थर के समान नहीं समझना चाहिए— जो मनुष्य के कौशल और कल्पना की मूर्तियाँ हैं।Therefore, being offspring of God, we should not think that the Divine Being is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by man’s skill and imagination.

30इस कारण परमेश्वर ने, अज्ञानता के समयों को अनदेखा किया, अब हर जगह मनुष्यों में से हर किसी को मन फिराने की आज्ञा दी है।Although God overlooked the ignorance of earlier times, He now commands all people everywhere to repent.

31क्योंकि उसने एक दिन ठहराया है जिसमें वह उस मनुष्य के द्वारा धार्मिकता से जगत का न्याय करने जा रहा है जिसे उसने नियुक्त किया है और मरे हुओं में से जिलाकर सब को प्रमाणित किया है।”For He has set a day when He will judge the world with justice by the Man He has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising Him from the dead.”

32अब मरे हुओं के पुनरुत्थान की बात सुनकर, कुछ ने वास्तव में ठट्ठा किया, परन्तु दूसरों ने कहा,“इस विषय में हम तुझ से दोबारा भी सुनेंगे।”When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some began to mock him, but others said, “We want to hear you again on this topic.”

33अत: पौलुस उनके बीच में से निकलकर चला गया।At that, Paul left the Areopagus.

34परन्तु कुछ मनुष्यों ने, उससे जुड़कर विश्वास किया, जिनमें अरियुपगुस का सदस्य दियुनुसियुस और एक स्त्री जिसका नाम दमरिस था, और उनके साथ और भी बहुत से लोग{ थे}।But some joined him and believed, including Dionysius the Areopagite, a woman named Damaris, and others who were with them.
