1 IEV सूफ का वंशज एल्काना नाम का एक व्यक्ति एप्रैम के गोत्र के स्थान में, पहाड़ी प्रदेश के रामा नगर में रहता था। उसका पिता यरोहाम था, उसका दादा एलीहू था, और उसका दादा तोह था। BSB BSB: Now there was a man named Elkanah who was from Ramathaim-zophim in the hill country of Ephraim. He was the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.
2 IEV उसकी दो पत्नियाँ थीं: हन्ना और पनिन्ना। पनिन्ना के तो बच्चे थे, परन्तु हन्ना के पास कोई बच्चा नहीं था। BSB BSB: He had two wives, one named Hannah and the other Peninnah. And Peninnah had children, but Hannah had none.
3 IEV एल्काना प्रतिवर्ष अपने परिवार के साथ रामा से शीलो शहर तक जाता था। वह यहोवा की आराधना करने के लिए, सेनाओं के यहोवा के लिए बलि चढ़ाता था, वहाँ एली के पुत्र होप्नी और पीनहास यहोवा के सामने अपने पिता की याजकीय सेवा में सहायता करते थे। BSB BSB: Year after year Elkanah would go up from his city to worship and sacrifice to the LORD of Hosts at Shiloh, where Eli’s two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, were priests to the LORD.
4 IEV एल्काना जब- जब वहाँ बलि चढ़ाता था तब- तब वह माँस में से कुछ भाग पनिन्ना को और कुछ उसके पुत्रों और पुत्रियों को देता था। BSB BSB: And whenever the day came for Elkanah to present his sacrifice, he would give portions to his wife Peninnah and to all her sons and daughters.
5 IEV परन्तु वह हन्ना को अधिक माँस देता क्योंकि वह उससे बहुत प्रेम करता था, भले ही यहोवा ने उसे सन्तान को जन्म देने से रोक रखा था। BSB BSB: But to Hannah he would give a double portion, for he loved her even though the LORD had closed her womb.
6 IEV परन्तु उसकी दूसरी पत्नी, पनिन्ना, हन्ना का उपहास करती थी, जिससे उसे दुखी होकर स्मरण आता था कि यहोवा ने उसे बच्चों को जन्म देने से रोक रखा है। BSB BSB: Because the LORD had closed Hannah’s womb, her rival would provoke her viciously to taunt her.
7 IEV वर्ष प्रतिवर्ष ऐसा ही होता था। जब वे यहोवा के भवन में शीलो जाते थे, तो पनिन्ना सदैव हन्ना का उपहास किया करती थी और हन्ना रोती थी और खाना नहीं खाती थी। BSB BSB: And this went on year after year. Whenever Hannah went up to the house of the LORD, her rival taunted her until she wept and would not eat.
8 IEV तब एल्काना उससे कहता,“हन्ना, तू क्यों रो रही है? तू कुछ खा क्यों नहीं रही? तू बहुत दुखी है! क्या मुझ जैसा पति पाना तेरे लिए दस पुत्रों से उत्तम नहीं है!” BSB BSB: “Hannah, why are you crying?” her husband Elkanah asked. “Why won’t you eat? Why is your heart so grieved? Am I not better to you than ten sons?”
9 IEV एक वर्ष, जब वे शीलो गए थे तब खाने और पीने के बाद, हन्ना प्रार्थना करने के लिए खड़ी हुई। एली याजक निकट ही यहोवा के पवित्र- तम्बू के द्वार के पास कुर्सी पर बैठा था। BSB BSB: So after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh, Hannah stood up. Now Eli the priest was sitting on a chair by the doorpost of the temple of the LORD.
10 IEV हन्ना बड़े कष्ट में थी, और वह यहोवा से प्रार्थना करते समय दुख से रोने लगी। BSB BSB: In her bitter distress, Hannah prayed to the LORD and wept with many tears.
11 IEV उसने सच्चे मन से शपथ खाई,“हे सेनाओं के यहोवा, यदि आप मुझे देखें तो मेरा कष्ट दिखाई देगा, मुझ पर दया करें और मुझे एक पुत्र दें। मैं उसे जीवन भर के लिए आपकी सेवा में समर्पित कर दूँगी। आपके लिए समर्पित होने का उसका चिन्ह होगा कि उसके बाल कभी नहीं काटे जाएँगे। BSB BSB: And she made a vow, saying, “O LORD of Hosts, if only You will look upon the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, not forgetting Your maidservant but giving her a son, then I will dedicate him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall ever touch his head.”
12 IEV एली याजक ने हन्ना के होंठों को प्रार्थना में सिर्फ हिलते हुए देखा। BSB BSB: As Hannah kept on praying before the LORD, Eli watched her mouth.
13 IEV हन्ना केवल चुप चाप प्रार्थना कर रही थी; वह शब्दों की आवाज़ नहीं निकाल रही थी। अतः एली ने सोचा कि वह नशे में है। BSB BSB: Hannah was praying in her heart, and though her lips were moving, her voice could not be heard. So Eli thought she was drunk
14 IEV उसने उससे कहा,“तू कब तक नशे में रहेगी? अपने नशे से छुटकारा पा!” BSB BSB: and said to her, “How long will you be drunk? Put away your wine!”
15 IEV हन्ना ने उत्तर दिया,“महोदय, मैं नशे में नहीं हूँ! मैंने दाखरस या किसी प्रकार का दाखमधु नहीं पीया है। मैं बहुत दुखी हूँ और मैं यहोवा के सामने अपनी भावनाएँ प्रकट कर रही हूँ। BSB BSB: “No, my lord,” Hannah replied. “I am a woman troubled in spirit. I have not had any wine or strong drink, but I have poured out my soul before the LORD.
16 IEV तू ऐसा मत सोच कि मैं एक निकम्मी स्त्री हूँ। मैं इस प्रकार प्रार्थना कर रही हूँ क्योंकि मैं बहुत शोकित और दुखी हूँ।” BSB BSB: Do not take your servant for a wicked woman, for all this time I have been praying out of the depth of my anguish and grief.”
17 IEV एली ने उत्तर दिया,“मैं चाहता हूँ कि तेरा भला हो, हमारे परमेश्वर जिनकी आराधना इस्राएली करता है, वे तेरी विनती सुन कर वैसा ही करें।” BSB BSB: “Go in peace,” Eli replied, “and may the God of Israel grant the petition you have asked of Him.”
18 IEV उसने उत्तर दिया,“मैं चाहती हूँ कि तू मेरे विषय में सोच।” तब वह अपने परिवार में लौट आई और उसने कुछ खाया, वह अब दुखी नहीं थी। BSB BSB: “May your maidservant find favor with you,” said Hannah. Then she went on her way, and she began to eat, and her face was no longer downcast.
19 IEV अगली सुबह, एल्काना और उसके परिवार ने उठ कर यहोवा की आराधना कि, और फिर वे रामा में अपने घर लौट आए। तब एल्काना हन्ना के साथ सो गया, और यहोवा ने उसकी प्रार्थना का उत्तर दिया। BSB BSB: The next morning they got up early to bow in worship before the LORD, and then they returned home to Ramah. And Elkanah had relations with his wife Hannah, and the LORD remembered her.
20 IEV वह गर्भवती हो गई और उसने एक पुत्र को जन्म दिया। उसका नाम शमूएल रखा, जिसका इब्रानी भाषा में अर्थ है“परमेश्वर ने सुना,” क्योंकि उसने कहा,“मैंने एक पुत्र के लिए विनती की और यहोवा ने मेरी प्रार्थना सुनी।” BSB BSB: So in the course of time, Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, saying, “Because I have asked for him from the LORD.”
21 IEV अगले वर्ष, एल्काना अपने परिवार के साथ शीलो गया, कि वह प्रतिवर्ष के समान बलि चढ़ाए, और परमेश्वर को एक विशेष भेंट चढ़ाए जिसकी उसने शपथ खाई है। BSB BSB: Then Elkanah and all his house went up to make the annual sacrifice to the LORD and to fulfill his vow,
22 IEV परन्तु हन्ना उनके साथ नहीं गई। उसने अपने पति से कहा,“जब बच्चा दूध छोड़ देगा, तब मैं उसे शीलो ले जाऊँगी और उसे यहोवा के सामने प्रस्तुत करूँगी, और वह जीवन भर वहाँ रहेगा।” BSB BSB: but Hannah did not go. “After the boy is weaned,” she said to her husband, “I will take him to appear before the LORD and to stay there permanently.”
23 IEV एल्काना ने कहा,“जो तू उचित समझती हो वही कर। जब तक बालक दूध न छोड़े तब तक यहीं रह। मेरी इच्छा है कि यहोवा तुझे अपनी शपथ पूरा करने में समर्थ करें।” अतः हन्ना घर पर ही रही और जब तक बालक ने दूध नहीं छोड़ा वह उसकी देखभाल करती रही। BSB BSB: “Do what you think is best,” her husband Elkanah replied, “and stay here until you have weaned him. Only may the LORD confirm His word.” So Hannah stayed and nursed her son until she had weaned him.
24 IEV जब उसने बालक का दूध छुड़ाया, तब शमूएल बहुत छोटा था। वह उसे शीलो में यहोवा के भवन में ले आई। वह अपने और अपने पुत्र के साथ एक तीन वर्षीय बैल, लगभग 20 किलो आटा, और दाखरस का पात्र भी लाई। BSB BSB: Once she had weaned him, Hannah took the boy with her, along with a three-year-old bull, an ephah of flour, and a skin of wine. Though the boy was still young, she brought him to the house of the LORD at Shiloh.
25 IEV हन्ना और एल्काना ने बैल को मारा और वेदी पर यहोवा के लिए चढ़ाया, और अपने पुत्र को एली के पास लाई। BSB BSB: And when they had slaughtered the bull, they brought the boy to Eli.
26 IEV तब हन्ना ने उससे कहा,“महोदय, क्या तुझको मैं स्मरण हूँ। मैं वह स्त्री हूँ जिसने कई वर्ष पहले तेरे पास खड़े होकर प्रार्थना की थी। BSB BSB: “Please, my lord,” said Hannah, “as surely as you live, my lord, I am the woman who stood here beside you praying to the LORD.
27 IEV मैंने प्रार्थना की थी कि यहोवा मुझे एक बच्चे को जन्म देने में सक्षम करें, और यह वही बच्चा है! BSB BSB: I prayed for this boy, and since the LORD has granted me what I asked of Him,
28 IEV तो अब मैं उसे यहोवा के सामने प्रस्तुत कर रही हूँ। जब तक वह जीवित रहता है तब तक वह यहोवा का होगा। तब एल्काना और उसके परिवार ने वहाँ यहोवा की आराधना की। BSB BSB: I now dedicate the boy to the LORD. For as long as he lives, he is dedicated to the LORD.” So they worshiped the LORD there.
