7 IEV यूहन्ना ने उन लोगों की भीड़ से जो बपतिस्मा लेने के लिए उसके पास आ रहे थे, कहा“तुम लोग विषैले साँपों के समान बुरे हो! क्या किसी ने भी तुम्हें चेतावनी नहीं दी कि एक दिन परमेश्वर सब पाप करने वालों को दण्ड देंगे तुम यह ना सोचो कि तुम उनसे बच सकते हो! BSB BSB: Then John said to the crowds coming out to be baptized by him, “You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
8 IEV ऐसे कार्य करो जिनसे प्रकट हो कि तुम वास्तव में अपने पापमय व्यवहार से दूर हो गए हो! और अपने आप से यह मत कहो, हम अब्राहम के वंशज हैं! क्योंकि मैं तुमसे कहता हूँ कि परमेश्वर इन पत्थरों से भी अब्राहम के वंशज उत्पन्न कर सकते हैं! BSB BSB: Produce fruit, then, in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.
9 IEV कुल्हाड़ी पेड़ों की जड़ पर रखी गई है, कि हर पेड़ जो अच्छा फल नहीं लाता, काट दिया जाए और आग में फेंक दिया जाए।” BSB BSB: The axe lies ready at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.”
10 IEV तब भीड़ में से कुछ लोगों ने उससे पूछा,“तो फिर हमें क्या करना चाहिए?” BSB BSB: The crowds asked him, “What then should we do?”
11 IEV उसने उत्तर दिया,“यदि तुम्हारे पास दो कुर्ते हैं, तो तुम उसमें से एक उसको देना जिसके पास वस्त्र नहीं है। यदि तुम्हारे पास बहुत सारा भोजन है, तो तुम उसमें से कुछ उसको देना जिसके पास भोजन नहीं है।” BSB BSB: John replied, “Whoever has two tunics should share with him who has none, and whoever has food should do the same.”
12 IEV कुछ महसूल लेने वाले भी यूहन्ना के पास बपतिस्मा लेने आए, उन्होंने उससे पूछा,“गुरु, हमें क्या करना चाहिए?” BSB BSB: Even tax collectors came to be baptized. “Teacher,” they asked, “what should we do?”
13 IEV उसने उनसे कहा,“रोमी सरकार ने जितना महसूल लेने को कहा है उससे एक पैसा भी अधिक मत लो!” BSB BSB: “Collect no more than you are authorized,” he answered.
14 IEV कुछ सैनिकों ने उससे पूछा,“और हमें क्या करना चाहिए?” उसने उनसे कहा,“लोगों को धमकी दे कर तुम पैसे देने के लिए विवश मत करना, और किसी पर भी गलती करने का झूठा आरोप मत लगाओ! अपनी कमाई में सन्तुष्ट रहो” BSB BSB: Then some soldiers asked him, “And what should we do?” “Do not take money by force or false accusation,” he said. “Be content with your wages.”
15 IEV लोग बहुत आशा कर रहे थे कि मसीह शीघ्र आने वाले हैं, और उनमें से बहुत से सोच रहे थे कि यूहन्ना मसीह तो नहीं। BSB BSB: The people were waiting expectantly and were all wondering in their hearts if John could be the Christ.
16 IEV परन्तु यूहन्ना ने उनको उत्तर दिया,“नहीं, मैं मसीह नहीं हूँ। मसीह मुझसे कहीं अधिक महान हैं। वह इतने महान हैं कि मैं एक दास के समान उनके जूतों के फीते खोलने के योग्य भी नहीं हूँ! मैंने तुम्हें पानी से बपतिस्मा दिया। परन्तु जब मसीह आएँगे, तो वह तुम्हें पवित्र- आत्मा और आग से बपतिस्मा देंगे। BSB BSB: John answered all of them: “I baptize you with water, but One more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

18 IEV इस प्रकार यूहन्ना ने शिक्षा दे- दे कर लोगों को सुसमाचार सुनाया। BSB BSB: With these and many other exhortations, John proclaimed the good news to the people.
19 IEV परन्तु उसने चौथाई देश के राजा हेरोदेस को अपने भाई के जीवित रहते हुए उसकी पत्नी हेरोदियास से विवाह करने और कई अन्य बुरे कर्मों के लिए भी उलाहना दिया। BSB BSB: But when he rebuked Herod the tetrarch regarding his brother’s wife Herodias and all the evils he had done,
20 IEV फिर हेरोदेस ने एक और बुरा कार्य किया कि उसने अपने सैनिकों को आदेश दे कर यूहन्ना को बन्दीगृह में डलवा दिया। BSB BSB: Herod added this to them all: He locked John up in prison.
21 IEV परन्तु बन्दीगृह में डाले जाने से पहले यूहन्ना लोगों को बपतिस्मा दे रहा था, उसी समय यीशु ने भी बपतिस्मा लिया। उसके पश्चात् जब वह प्रार्थना कर रहे थे, तब आकाश खुल गया। BSB BSB: When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as He was praying, heaven was opened,
22 IEV और पवित्र- आत्मा कबूतर के रूप में यीशु पर उतरा। और परमेश्वर ने स्वर्ग से यीशु से कहा,“तू मेरा पुत्र है, जिससे मैं बहुत प्रेम करता हूँ। मैं तुझ से बहुत प्रसन्न हूँ!” BSB BSB: and the Holy Spirit descended on Him in a bodily form like a dove.
