Perhaps the LORD will work on our behalf. Nothing can hinder the LORD from saving, whether by many or by few.”

7ആയുധവാഹകൻ അവനോട്: “നിന്റെ ഇഷ്ടം പോലെ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുക; നടന്നുകൊൾക; നിന്റെ മനസ്സുപോലെ ഞാൻ നിന്നോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ട്” എന്നുപറഞ്ഞു.His armor-bearer replied, “Do all that is in your heart. Go ahead; I am with you heart and soul.”

8അതിന് യോനാഥാൻ പറഞ്ഞത്: “നാം അവരുടെ നേരെ ചെന്ന് അവർക്ക് നമ്മെത്തന്നെ കാണിക്കാം;“Very well,” said Jonathan, “we will cross over toward these men and show ourselves to them.

And the Philistines fell before Jonathan, and his armor-bearer followed and finished them off.

19ശൗൽ പുരോഹിതനോട് സംസാരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ പാളയത്തിലെ കലാപം മേല്ക്കുമേൽ വർദ്ധിച്ചുവന്നു. അപ്പോൾ ശൗൽ പുരോഹിതനോട്: “നിന്റെ കൈ പിൻവലിക്ക” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.While Saul was talking to the priest, the commotion in the Philistine camp continued to increase. So Saul said to the priest, “Withdraw your hand.”

20പിന്നീട് ശൗലും കൂടെയുള്ള ജനമൊക്കെയും ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂടി യുദ്ധത്തിന് ചെന്നപ്പോൾ അവർ അന്യോന്യം വെട്ടി. അവിടെ ആകെ വലിയ കലക്കം ഉണ്ടായി.Then Saul and all his troops assembled and marched to the battle, and they found the Philistines in total confusion, with each man wielding the sword against his neighbor.

23അങ്ങനെ യഹോവ അന്ന് യിസ്രായേലിനെ രക്ഷിച്ചു; പട ബേത്ത്-ആവെൻ വരെ വ്യാപിച്ചു.So the LORD saved Israel that day, and the battle moved on beyond Beth-aven.

So he reached out the end of the staff in his hand, dipped it into the honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth, and his eyes brightened.

29അതിന് യോനാഥാൻ: “എന്റെ അപ്പൻ ദേശത്തെ കഷ്ടത്തിലാക്കി; ഞാൻ ഈ തേൻ ഒരല്പം ആസ്വദിക്കകൊണ്ട് എന്റെ കണ്ണ് പ്രകാശിച്ചത് കണ്ടില്ലയോ?“My father has brought trouble to the land,” Jonathan replied. “Just look at how my eyes have brightened because I tasted a little of this honey.

32ജനം ഏറ്റവും ഓടിച്ചെന്ന് ആടുകളെയും കാളകളെയും കിടാക്കളെയും പിടിച്ച് നിലത്തുവച്ചു അറുത്ത് രക്തത്തോടുകൂടെ തിന്നു.So they rushed greedily to the plunder, taking sheep, cattle, and calves. They slaughtered them on the ground and ate meat with the blood still in it.

33ജനം രക്തത്തോടു കൂടി ഭക്ഷിച്ചതിനാൽ യഹോവയോട് പാപം ചെയ്യുന്നു എന്ന് ശൗലിന് അറിവുകിട്ടി.അപ്പോൾ അവൻ: “നിങ്ങൾ ഇന്ന് ദ്രോഹം ചെയ്യുന്നു; ഒരു വലിയ കല്ല് എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ഉരുട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുവരുവിൻ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.Then someone reported to Saul: “Look, the troops are sinning against the LORD by eating meat with the blood still in it.” “You have broken faith,” said Saul. “Roll a large stone over here at once.”

34പിന്നെ ശൗൽ:“നിങ്ങൾ ജനത്തിന്റെ ഇടയിൽ ചെന്ന് അവരോട്, ഓരോരുത്തരും അവരവരുടെ കാളയെയും ആടിനെയും എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ കൊണ്ടുവന്ന് ഇവിടെവെച്ച് അറുത്ത് തിന്നുകൊൾവിൻ; രക്തത്തോടെ ഭക്ഷിച്ച് യഹോവയോട് പാപം ചെയ്യരുത്” എന്ന് കല്പിച്ചു. അങ്ങനെ ജനമെല്ലാം കാളകളെ അന്ന് രാത്രി കൊണ്ടുവന്ന് അവിടെവെച്ച് അറുത്തു.Then he said, “Go among the troops and tell them, ‘Each man must bring me his ox or his sheep, slaughter them in this place, and then eat. Do not sin against the LORD by eating meat with the blood still in it.’” So that night everyone brought his ox and slaughtered it there.

35ശൗൽ യഹോവയ്ക്ക് ഒരു യാഗപീഠം പണിതു; അത് അവൻ യഹോവയ്ക്ക് ആദ്യം പണിത യാഗപീഠം ആയിരുന്നു.Then Saul built an altar to the LORD; it was the first time he had built an altar to the LORD.

36പിന്നീട് ശൗൽ: “നാം രാത്രിയിൽ തന്നെ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരെ പിന്തുടർന്ന് നേരം പുലരുന്നതു വരെ അവരെ കൊള്ളയിടുക; അവരിൽ ആരെയും ശേഷിപ്പിക്കരുത്” എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു. “നിനക്ക് ഉചിതമായത് ചെയ്തുകൊൾക”എന്ന് അവർ പറഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ: “നമുക്ക് ദൈവത്തോട് ചോദിക്കാം” എന്ന് പുരോഹിതൻ പറഞ്ഞു.And Saul said, “Let us go down after the Philistines by night and plunder them until dawn, leaving no man alive!” “Do what seems good to you,” the troops replied. But the priest said, “We must consult God here.”

37അങ്ങനെ ശൗൽ ദൈവത്തോട്: “ഞാൻ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരെ പിന്തുടരേണമോ? നീ അവരെ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ കയ്യിൽ ഏല്പിക്കുമോ” എന്നു അരുളപ്പാട് ചോദിച്ചു. എന്നാൽ അന്ന് അവന് ഉത്തരം ലഭിച്ചില്ല.So Saul inquired of God, “Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will You give them into the hand of Israel?” But God did not answer him that day.

41അങ്ങനെ ശൗൽ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയോട്: “സത്യം വെളിപ്പെടുത്തിത്തരേണമേ”എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അപ്പോൾ ശൗലിനും യോനാഥാനും ചീട്ടുവീണു; ജനം ഒഴിവാക്കപ്പെട്ടു.So Saul said to the LORD, the God of Israel, “Why have You not answered Your servant this day? If the fault is with me or my son Jonathan, respond with Urim, but if the fault is with the men of Israel, respond with Thummim.” And Jonathan and Saul were selected, but the people were cleared of the charge.

42പിന്നെ ശൗൽ:“എനിക്കും എന്റെ മകനായ യോനാഥാനും ചീട്ടിടുവിൻ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; ചീട്ട് യോനാഥാന് വീണു.Then Saul said, “Cast the lot between me and my son Jonathan.” And Jonathan was selected.

43ശൗൽ യോനാഥാനോട്:“നീ എന്ത് ചെയ്തു? എന്നോടു പറയുക”എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. യോനാഥാൻ അവനോടു: “ഞാൻ എന്റെ വടിയുടെ അറ്റംകൊണ്ടു അല്പം തേൻ ആസ്വദിച്ചതേയുള്ളു; അതുകൊണ്ട് ഞാൻ മരിക്കേണ്ടിവരും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.“Tell me what you have done,” Saul commanded him. So Jonathan told him, “I only tasted a little honey with the end of the staff that was in my hand. And now I must die?”

44അതിന് ശൗൽ:“ദൈവം എന്നോട് അതിന് തക്കവണ്ണവും അധികവും ചെയ്യട്ടെ; യോനാഥാനേ, നീ മരിക്കേണം”എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.And Saul declared, “May God punish me, and ever so severely, if you, Jonathan, do not surely die!”

Never! As surely as the LORD lives, not a hair of his head will fall to the ground, for with God’s help he has accomplished this today.” So the people rescued Jonathan, and he did not die.

46ശൗൽ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരെ പിന്തുടരാതെ മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി; ഫെലിസ്ത്യരും തങ്ങളുടെ സ്ഥലത്തേക്ക് പോയി.Then Saul gave up his pursuit of the Philistines, and the Philistines returned to their own land.
