Then David asked, “Where should I go?” “To Hebron,” replied the LORD.

4അപ്പോൾ യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാർ വന്ന്, അവിടെവച്ച് ദാവീദിനെ യെഹൂദാഗൃഹത്തിന് രാജാവായി അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്തു.Then the men of Judah came to Hebron, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, “It was the men of Jabesh-gilead who buried Saul.”

5യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാർ ദാവീദിനോട്: “ഗിലെയാദിലെ യാബേശ് നിവാസികൾ ആയിരുന്നു ശൗലിനെ അടക്കംചെയ്തത്”എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അതുകൊണ്ട് ദാവീദ് ഗിലെയാദിലെ യാബേശ് നിവാസികളുടെ അടുക്കൽ സന്ദേശവാഹകരെ അയച്ചു: “നിങ്ങളുടെ യജമാനനായ ശൗലിനോട് ഇങ്ങനെ ദയകാണിച്ച് അവനെ അടക്കം ചെയ്തതുകൊണ്ട് നിങ്ങൾ യഹോവയാൽ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടവർ.So David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh-gilead to tell them, “The LORD bless you, because you showed this kindness to Saul your lord when you buried him.

6യഹോവ നിങ്ങളോട് ദയയും വിശ്വസ്തതയും കാണിക്കുമാറാകട്ടെ; നിങ്ങൾ ഈ കാര്യം ചെയ്തിരിക്കകൊണ്ട് ഞാനും നിങ്ങൾക്ക് നന്മ ചെയ്യും.Now may the LORD show you loving devotion and faithfulness, and I will also show you the same favor because you have done this.

7ആകയാൽ ഇപ്പോൾ നിങ്ങളുടെ കരങ്ങൾ ശക്തിപ്പെടട്ടെ നിങ്ങൾ ധീരന്മാരാകട്ടെ; നിങ്ങളുടെ യജമാനനായ ശൗൽ മരിച്ചുപോയല്ലോ; യെഹൂദാഗൃഹം എന്നെ തങ്ങൾക്കു രാജാവായിട്ട് അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു” എന്ന് പറയിച്ചു.Now then, be strong and courageous, for though Saul your lord is dead, the house of Judah has anointed me as their king.”

8എന്നാൽ ശൗലിന്റെ സേനാപതിയായ നേരിന്റെ മകൻ അബ്നേർ ശൗലിന്റെ മകനായ ഈശ്-ബോശെത്തിനെ മഹനയീമിലേക്കു കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോയി,Meanwhile, Abner son of Ner, the commander of Saul’s army, took Saul’s son Ish-bosheth, moved him to Mahanaim,

9അവനെ ഗിലെയാദിനും, അശൂരിയർക്കും, ജെസ്രീയേലിനും, എഫ്രയീമിനും, ബെന്യാമീനും, എല്ലാ യിസ്രായേലിനും രാജാവാക്കി,and made him king over Gilead, Asher, Jezreel, Ephraim, and Benjamin—over all Israel.

The house of Judah, however, followed David.

11ദാവീദ് ഹെബ്രോനിൽ യെഹൂദാഗൃഹത്തിന് രാജാവായിരുന്ന കാലം ഏഴ് വർഷവും ആറുമാസവും തന്നെ.And the length of time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.

12നേരിന്റെ മകൻ അബ്നേരും ശൗലിന്റെ മകനായ ഈശ്-ബോശെത്തിന്റെ ഭടന്മാരും മഹനയീമിൽനിന്ന് പുറപ്പെട്ട് ഗിബെയോനിലേക്കു വന്നു.One day Abner son of Ner and the servants of Ish-bosheth son of Saul marched out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.

13അപ്പോൾ സെരൂയയുടെ മകനായ യോവാബും ദാവീദിന്റെ ഭടന്മാരും പുറപ്പെട്ട് ഗിബെയോനിലെ കുളത്തിനരികെവച്ച് അവരെ കണ്ടുമുട്ടി; അവർ കുളത്തിന്റെ ഇപ്പുറത്തും മറ്റവർ കുളത്തിന്റെ അപ്പുറത്തും ഇരുന്നു.So Joab son of Zeruiah and the servants of David marched out and met them by the pool of Gibeon. And the two groups took up positions on opposite sides of the pool.

14അബ്നേർ യോവാബിനോട്: “ഇപ്പോൾ യുവാക്കന്മാർ എഴുന്നേറ്റ് നമ്മുടെമുമ്പാകെ ഒന്നു പൊരുതട്ടെ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.Then Abner said to Joab, “Let us have the young men get up and compete before us.” “Let them get up,” Joab replied.

15യോവാബ്:“അവർ എഴുന്നേൽക്കട്ടെ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ ബെന്യാമീന്യരുടെയും ശൗലിന്റെ മകനായ ഈശ്-ബോശെത്തിന്റെയും ഭാഗത്തുനിന്ന് പന്ത്രണ്ടുപേരും ദാവീദിന്റെ ഭടന്മാരിൽനിന്ന് പന്ത്രണ്ടുപേരും എണ്ണത്തിനൊത്ത് എഴുന്നേറ്റ് തമ്മിൽ അടുത്തു.So they got up and were counted off—twelve for Benjamin and Ish-bosheth son of Saul, and twelve for David.

So this place, which is in Gibeon, is called Helkath-hazzurim.

17അന്ന് യുദ്ധം ഏറ്റവും കഠിനമായി, അബ്നേരും യിസ്രായേല്യരും ദാവീദിന്റെ ഭടന്മാരോട് തോറ്റുപോയി.The battle that day was intense, and Abner and the men of Israel were defeated by the servants of David.

18അവിടെ യോവാബ്, അബീശായി, അസാഹേൽ ഇങ്ങനെ സെരൂയയുടെ മൂന്നു പുത്രന്മാരും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അസാഹേൽ കാട്ടുകലമാനെപ്പോലെ വേഗതയുള്ളവൻ ആയിരുന്നു.The three sons of Zeruiah were there: Joab, Abishai, and Asahel. Now Asahel was fleet of foot like a wild gazelle,

19അസാഹേൽ അബ്നേരിനെ പിന്തുടർന്നു; അബ്നേരിനെ പിന്തുടരുന്നതിൽ വലത്തോട്ടോ ഇടത്തോട്ടോ മാറിയില്ല.and he chased Abner, not turning to the right or to the left in his pursuit.

20അപ്പോൾ അബ്നേർ പിറകോട്ടു നോക്കി: “നീ അസാഹേലോ” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്: “ഞാൻ തന്നെ” എന്ന് അവൻ ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.And Abner glanced back and said, “Is that you, Asahel?” “It is,” Asahel replied.

21അബ്നേർ അവനോട്: “നീ വലത്തോട്ടോ ഇടത്തോട്ടോ തിരിഞ്ഞ്, യുവാക്കന്മാരിൽ ഒരുത്തനെ പിടിച്ച് അവന്റെ ആയുധവർഗ്ഗം നിനക്കുവേണ്ടി എടുത്തുകൊൾക” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു. എന്നാൽ അബ്നേരിനെ പിന്തുടരുന്നതിൽനിന്ന് അസാഹേൽ പിന്തിരിഞ്ഞില്ല.So Abner told him, “Turn to your right or to your left, seize one of the young men, and take his equipment for yourself.” But Asahel would not stop chasing him.

Why should I strike you to the ground? How could I show my face to your brother Joab?”

So Abner thrust the butt of his spear into his stomach, and it came out his back, and he fell dead on the spot. And every man paused when he came to the place where Asahel had fallen and died.

26അപ്പോൾ അബ്നേർ യോവാബിനോട്: “വാൾ എന്നും സംഹരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കേണമോ? ഒടുവിൽ കൈപ്പുണ്ടാകുമെന്ന് നീ അറിയുന്നില്ലയോ? സഹോരദന്മാരെ പിന്തുടരുന്നത് മതിയാക്കേണ്ടതിന് ജനത്തോട് കല്പിപ്പാൻ നീ എത്രത്തോളം താമസിക്കും” എന്ന് വിളിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞു.Then Abner called out to Joab: “Must the sword devour forever? Do you not realize that this will only end in bitterness? How long before you tell the troops to stop pursuing their brothers?”

27അതിന് യോവാബ്: “ദൈവത്താണ, നീ പറഞ്ഞില്ലായിരുന്നെങ്കിലും സഹോദരന്മാരെ പിന്തുടരുന്നതിൽനിന്ന് ജനങ്ങൾ രാവിലെ നിശ്ചയമായും പിന്തിരിയുമായിരുന്നു” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു.“As surely as God lives,” Joab replied, “if you had not spoken up, the troops would have continued pursuing their brothers until morning.”

30യോവാബും അബ്നേരിനെ പിന്തുടരുന്നതിൽനിന്ന് പിന്തിരിഞ്ഞു, യോവാബ് ജനത്തെ ഒക്കെയും ഒന്നിച്ചു കൂട്ടിയപ്പോൾ ദാവീദിന്റെ ഭടന്മാരിൽ പത്തൊമ്പതുപേരും അസാഹേലും ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു.When Joab returned from pursuing Abner, he gathered all the troops. In addition to Asahel, nineteen of David’s servants were missing,

31എന്നാൽ ദാവീദിന്റെ ഭടന്മാർ ബെന്യാമീന്യരെയും അബ്നേരിന്റെ ആളുകളെയും തോല്പിക്കയും അവരിൽ മുന്നൂറ്ററുപതുപേരെ സംഹരിക്കയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.but they had struck down 360 Benjamites who were with Abner.
