1नंतर अलीफज तेमानीने उत्तर दिले आणि म्हणाला,Then Eliphaz the Temanite replied:

2“शहाणा मनुष्य, वायफळ शहाणपणाचे उत्तर देणार काय, आणि पूर्वे कडील वाऱ्याने स्वतःला भरेल का?“Does a wise man answer with empty counsel or fill his belly with the hot east wind?

3तो ज्यात काही लाभ नाही अशा निरुपयोगी कारणास्तव बोलेल काय किंवा जे सांगण्यास योग्य नाही असा उपदेश करेल काय?Should he argue with useless words or speeches that serve no purpose?

4खरोखर, तू देवाचा आदर करणे सोडले आहेस, त्याच्या भक्तीत तू खीळ घालत आहेस.But you even undermine the fear of God and hinder meditation before Him.

5तुझे पाप तुझ्या मुखाला बोलण्यास शिकविते, तू तुझ्यासाठी अधर्माची जीभ निवडली आहे.For your iniquity instructs your mouth, and you choose the language of the crafty.

6मी नव्हे, तुझेच स्वमुख तुला दोषी मानत आहे. खरोखर, तुझे स्वत:चेच ओठ तुझ्याविरुध्द साक्ष देतातYour own mouth, not mine, condemns you; your own lips testify against you.

7तुच प्रथम मनुष्य असा जन्माला आलास काय? टेकड्या निर्माण व्हायच्या आधीच तू जन्मलास का?Were you the first man ever born? Were you brought forth before the hills?

8तू देवाच्या गुप्त मसलती ऐकल्यास का? केवळ तूच एक शहाणा मनुष्य आहेस असे तुला वाटते का?Do you listen in on the council of God or limit wisdom to yourself?

9आम्हास समजत नाही असे तुला काय माहीती आहे? आम्हास अवगत नाही असे काय तुला माहीत आहे?What do you know that we do not? What do you understand that is not clear to us?

10केस पांढरे झालेले लोक आणि वृध्द आमच्याशी सहमत आहेत. होय, तुझ्या वडिलांपेक्षा वृध्द असलेले लोक आमच्यात आहेत.Both the gray-haired and the aged are on our side—men much older than your father.

11देवाने केलेले सांत्वन आणि तुजशी केलेली सौम्य भाषण तुला तुच्छ वाटतात काय?Are the consolations of God not enough for you, even words spoken gently to you?

12तुझे मन तुला का मार्ग भ्रष्ट करीत आहे? तू डोळे का फिरवितोस,Why has your heart carried you away, and why do your eyes flash,

13तू असा तुझा आत्त्मा देवाच्या विरुध्द का फिरवतोस आणि तुझ्या तोंडा वाटे असे शब्द का येतात.so that you turn your spirit against God and pour such words from your mouth?

14मनुष्य तो काय, जो निष्कलंक असेल? स्त्री पासून जन्मलेला मनुष्य तो निष्पाप कसा असणार?What is man, that he should be pure, or one born of woman, that he should be righteous?

15पहा, देवाच्या नजरेत आकाशही स्वच्छ नाही, खरोखर, देव त्याच्या पवित्र जनांचाही विश्वास करत नाही.If God puts no trust in His holy ones, if even the heavens are not pure in His eyes,

16असा मनुष्य जो अधर्म पाण्यासारख्या पितो, अशुद्ध आणि अप्रामाणिक असा मनुष्य तो काय?how much less man, who is vile and corrupt, who drinks injustice like water?

17माझे ऐक, मी तुला समजावून सांगतो, मी पाहिलेल्या गोष्टी तुम्हास सांगतो.Listen to me and I will inform you. I will describe what I have seen,

18विद्वानांनी ज्या गोष्टी मला सांगितल्या, त्या मी तुला सांगतो. विद्वानाच्या पूर्वजांनी त्यांना या गोष्टी सांगितल्या. त्यांनी माझ्यापासून कुठलीही गुप्त गोष्ट लपवून ठेवली नाही.what was declared by wise men and was not concealed from their fathers,

19ती भूमी त्याच्या पूर्वजांना दिलेली होती, ज्यात एकटेच राहत होते, आणि त्या मधून कोणी परदेशी कधीही जाऊ शकत नव्हते.to whom alone the land was given when no foreigner passed among them.

20दुष्ट मनुष्याचे सर्व दिवस वेदनात फिरवले जातात, जुलम्याचे जीवनाची वर्ष यातना भोगण्यासाठीच असतात.A wicked man writhes in pain all his days; only a few years are reserved for the ruthless.

21भीतीचा आवाज त्याच्या कानात आहे, जेव्हा तो समृद्धीत असेल, नाश करणारा त्याच्यावर येईल.Sounds of terror fill his ears; in his prosperity the destroyer attacks him.

22अंधारातून बाहेर येण्याची तो खात्री करत नाही, त्याच्याकरिता तलवार वाट पाहत आहे.He despairs of his return from darkness; he is marked for the sword.

23ते कुठे आहे? असे म्हणत तो भाकरीसाठी इकडे तिकडे भटकतो, अंधकाराचा दिवस हाताशी आहे हे तो जाणतो.He wanders about as food for vultures; he knows the day of darkness is at hand.

24संकटे आणि दु:ख त्यास भित्रा बनवतात, हाल करण्यासाठी तयार असलेल्या राजा प्रमाणे ते त्याच्या विरूद्ध यश पावतात.Distress and anguish terrify him, overwhelming him like a king poised to attack.

25कारण त्याने देवाच्या विरूद्ध त्याचा हात उगारला आहे, आणि सर्वशक्तीमान देवाच्या विरूद्ध तो गर्वाने वागत आहे.For he has stretched out his hand against God and has vaunted himself against the Almighty,

26हा दुष्ट मनुष्य ताठ मानेन, जड उंच वाटे असलेली ढाल घेऊन देवाकडे धावतो,rushing headlong at Him with a thick, studded shield.

27त्याचा चेहरा त्याने आपल्या चारबीने जरी झाकून घेतला आणि आपली चरबी त्याने कंबरेत साठवली,Though his face is covered with fat and his waistline bulges with flesh,

28आणि उद्वस्त शहरात राहतो, ज्या घरात माणसे राहतात, आणि आत्ता ते माती चे ढीग होण्यास तयार आहे.he will dwell in ruined cities, in abandoned houses destined to become rubble.

29तरी तो श्रीमंत होणार नाही, त्याची संपती पण टिकणार नाही, त्याची सावली पण त्यास सोडून जाईल.He will no longer be rich; his wealth will not endure. His possessions will not overspread the land.

30त्याची काळोखापासून सुटका नाही, आग्नीने त्याच्या फांद्या सुकतील, देवाच्या मुख श्वासाने तो दूर जाईल.He will not escape from the darkness; the flame will wither his shoots, and the breath of God’s mouth will carry him away.

31निरुपयोगी गोष्टींवर त्याने विश्वास ठेवून स्वत:चीच फसवणूक करून घेऊ नये. निरउपयोगीता त्याचे बक्षीस होईल.Let him not deceive himself with trust in emptiness, for emptiness will be his reward.

32आयुष्य संपण्याच्या आधीच दुष्ट मनुष्य म्हातारा आणि शुष्क झालेला असेल. तो पुन्हा कधीही हिरव्या न होणाऱ्या फांदीसारखा असेल.It will be paid in full before his time, and his branch will not flourish.

33न पिकलेले द्राक्ष जसे अकाली गळून पडतात त्या वेलीसारखा तो होईल, जैतून झाडाच्या फुला प्रमाणे त्याची फुले गळतील.He will be like a vine stripped of its unripe grapes, like an olive tree that sheds its blossoms.

34अधर्म्याचे घराणे फळ द्रूप होणार नाही लाचलुचूपताचे तंबू आगीत भस्मसात होतात.For the company of the godless will be barren, and fire will consume the tents of bribery.

35ते अपकाराची गर्भधारणा करतात आणि अधर्मास जन्म देतात, त्यांच्या उदरात लबाडीचा गर्भ आहे.”They conceive trouble and give birth to evil; their womb is pregnant with deceit.”
