2. 1MURVerily, verily, I say to you, That he who doth not enter by the door into the fold of the flock, but climbeth up in some other place, he is a thief and a robber.BSBBSB: “Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever does not enter the sheepfold by the gate, but climbs in some other way, is a thief and a robber.
3. 2MURBut he that entereth by the door, is the shepherd of the flock.BSBBSB: But the one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep.
4. 3MURAnd to him the door-keeper openeth the door; and the sheep hear his voice. And he calleth the sheep by their names, and leadeth them out.BSBBSB: The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen for his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.
5. 4MURAnd when he hath led out his flock, he goeth before it; and his sheep follow him, because they know his voice.BSBBSB: When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.
6. 5MURBut after a stranger the flock will not follow, but it fleeth from him; because it knoweth not the voice of a stranger.BSBBSB: But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will flee from him because they do not recognize his voice.”
7. 6MURThis allegory spake Jesus to them; but they knew not what he said to them.BSBBSB: Jesus spoke to them using this illustration, but they did not understand what He was telling them.
8. 7MURAnd Jesus said to them again: Verily, verily, I say to you, That I am the door of the flock.BSBBSB: So He said to them again, “Truly, truly, I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep.
9. 8MURAll those who have come, were thieves and robbers: but the flock did not hear them.BSBBSB: All who came before Me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them.
10. 9MURI am the door: and if any enter by me, he will live, and will come in and go out, and will find pasture.BSBBSB: I am the gate. If anyone enters through Me, he will be saved. He will come in and go out and find pasture.
11. 10MURThe thief cometh not, but that he may steal, and kill, and destroy. I have come, that they may have life, and may have that which is excellent.BSBBSB: The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and have it in all its fullness.
12. 11MURI am a good shepherd. A good shepherd exposeth his life for the sheep.BSBBSB: I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.
13. 12MURBut a hireling, who is not the shepherd, and to whom the sheep do not belong, when he seeth the wolf coming, leaveth the flock, and fleeth; and the wolf cometh, and teareth, and disperseth the flock.BSBBSB: The hired hand is not the shepherd, and the sheep are not his own. When he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf pounces on them and scatters the flock.
14. 13MURAnd a hireling fleeth, because he is a hireling, and hath no concern for the flock.BSBBSB: The man runs away because he is a hired servant and is unconcerned for the sheep.
15. 14MURI am a good shepherd; and I know my own sheep, and am known by my own.BSBBSB: I am the good shepherd. I know My sheep and My sheep know Me,
16. 15MURAs my Father knoweth me, so know I my Father; and I expose my life for the flock.BSBBSB: just as the Father knows Me and I know the Father. And I lay down My life for the sheep.
17. 16MURAnd I have other sheep, which are not of this fold: and them also I must bring; and they will hear my voice; and the whole will be one flock, and one shepherd.BSBBSB: I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them in as well, and they will listen to My voice. Then there will be one flock and one shepherd.
18. 17MURFor this cause my Father loveth me, that I lay down my life, to resume it again.BSBBSB: The reason the Father loves Me is that I lay down My life in order to take it up again.
19. 18MURThere is no one that taketh it from me; but I lay it down of my own pleasure: for I have authority to lay it down, and authority to resume it again; because I have received this command from my Father.BSBBSB: No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of My own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from My Father.”
20. 19MURAnd again there was a division among the Jews, on account of these sayings.BSBBSB: Again there was division among the Jews because of Jesus’ message.
21. 20MURAnd many of them said: He hath a demon, and is wholly beside himself; why hear ye him?BSBBSB: Many of them said, “He is demon-possessed and insane. Why would you listen to Him?”
22. 21MURBut others said: These are not the discourses of a demoniac: can a demon open the eyes of one blind?BSBBSB: But others replied, “These are not the words of a man possessed by a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?”

23. Jesus at the Feast of Dedication

24. 22MURAnd the feast of the dedication was held at Jerusalem, and it was winter.BSBBSB: At that time the Feast of Dedication took place in Jerusalem. It was winter,

26. 24MURAnd the Jews gathered around him; and said to him: how long holdest thou our mind in suspense? If thou art the Messiah, tell us plainly.BSBBSB: So the Jews gathered around Him and demanded, “How long will You keep us in suspense? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.”
27. 25MURJesus answered, and said to them: I have told you, and ye did not believe. The works which I do in the name of my Father, they testify of meBSBBSB: “I already told you,” Jesus replied, “but you did not believe. The works I do in My Father’s name testify on My behalf.
28. 26MURBut ye do not believe, because ye are not of my sheep, as I have said to you.BSBBSB: But because you are not My sheep, you refuse to believe.
29. 27MURMy sheep hear my voice: and I know them: and they go after me.BSBBSB: My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me.
30. 28MURAnd I give to them life eternal: and they will never be lost: nor will any one pluck them from my hand.BSBBSB: I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them out of My hand.
31. 29MURFor my Father, who gave them to me, is greater than all; nor can any pluck from my Father's hand.BSBBSB: My Father who has given them to Me is greater than all. No one can snatch them out of My Father’s hand.

35. 33MURThe Jews said to him: It is not on account of good works, that we stone thee: but because thou blasphemest; and, whilst thou art a man, thou makest thyself God.BSBBSB: “We are not stoning You for any good work,” said the Jews, “but for blasphemy, because You, who are a man, make Yourself out to be God.”
36. 34MURJesus said to them: Is it not written in your law, I have said, Ye are gods?BSBBSB: Jesus replied, “Is it not written in your Law: ‘I have said you are gods’?
37. 35MURIf he called them gods, because the word of God was with them, and the scripture cannot be nullified;BSBBSB: If he called them gods to whom the word of God came—and the Scripture cannot be broken—
38. 36MURdo ye say to him, whom the Father, hath sanctified and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said to you, I am the Son of God?BSBBSB: then what about the One whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world? How then can you accuse Me of blasphemy for stating that I am the Son of God?
39. 37MURAnd if I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.BSBBSB: If I am not doing the works of My Father, then do not believe Me.
40. 38MURBut if I do them, although ye believe not me, yet believe the works; that ye may know and believe, that my Father is in me, and I in my Father.BSBBSB: But if I am doing them, even though you do not believe Me, believe the works themselves, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I am in the Father.”

44. 41MURAnd many persons came to him: and they said, John indeed wrought not even one sign; but every thing that John said of his man, was true.BSBBSB: Many came to Him and said, “Although John never performed a sign, everything he said about this man was true.”
