1. Jesus the True Vine

   (Isaiah 27:1–13)

2. 1MURI am the true vine; and my Father is the cultivator.BSBBSB: “I am the true vine, and My Father is the keeper of the vineyard.
3. 2MUREvery branch in me, which yieldeth not fruits, he taketh it away: and that which yieldeth fruits, he cleanseth it, that it may yield more fruits.BSBBSB: He cuts off every branch in Me that bears no fruit, and every branch that does bear fruit, He prunes to make it even more fruitful.
4. 3MURYe henceforth are clean, on account of the discourse I have held with you.BSBBSB: You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.
5. 4MURAbide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot yield fruits of itself, unless it abide in the vine; so also, neither can ye, unless ye abide in me.BSBBSB: Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me.
6. 5MURI am the vine, and ye are the branches. He that abideth in me, and I in him, he yieldeth much fruit; for without me, ye can do nothing.BSBBSB: I am the vine and you are the branches. The one who remains in Me, and I in him, will bear much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing.
7. 6MURAnd if a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a withered branch; and they gather it up, and cast it into the fire to be burned.BSBBSB: If anyone does not remain in Me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers. Such branches are gathered up, thrown into the fire, and burned.
8. 7MURBut if ye shall abide in me, and my instructions shall abide in you, whatever ye shall be pleased to ask, it will be given to you.BSBBSB: If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
9. 8MURIn this is the Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; and ye will be my disciples.BSBBSB: This is to My Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, proving yourselves to be My disciples.

10. No Greater Love

11. 9MURAs my Father hath loved me, I also have loved you: abide ye in the love of me.BSBBSB: As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you. Remain in My love.
12. 10MURIf ye shall keep my commands, ye will abide in the love of me, as I have kept the commands of my Father, and abide in his love.BSBBSB: If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and remain in His love.
13. 11MURThese things have I spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete.BSBBSB: I have told you these things so that My joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.
14. 12MURThis is my command, that ye love one another, as I have loved you.BSBBSB: This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
15. 13MURThere is no greater love than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.BSBBSB: Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
16. 14MURYe are my friends, if ye do all that I command you.BSBBSB: You are My friends if you do what I command you.
17. 15MURI no longer call you servants; because a servant knoweth not what his lord doeth; but I have called you my friends; because, whatever I have heard from my Father, I have made known to you.BSBBSB: No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not understand what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because everything I have learned from My Father I have made known to you.
18. 16MURIt is not ye that chose me, but I that have chosen you; and I have appointed you, that ye also should go and yield fruits, and that your fruits should continue; so that whatever ye may ask of my Father in my name, he may give it you.BSBBSB: You did not choose Me, but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will remain—so that whatever you ask the Father in My name, He will give you.
19. 17MURThese things I command you, that ye should love one another.BSBBSB: This is My command to you: Love one another.

20. The Hatred of the World

21. 18MURAnd if the world hate you, know ye, that it hated me before you.BSBBSB: If the world hates you, understand that it hated Me first.
22. 19MURAnd if ye were of the world, the world would love what is of it. But ye are not of the world, for I have chosen you out of the world; for this cause, the world hateth you.BSBBSB: If you were of the world, it would love you as its own. Instead, the world hates you, because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world.
23. 20MURRemember the word that I spoke to you, That there is no servant, who is greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; and if they have observed my teaching, they will also observe yours.BSBBSB: Remember the word that I spoke to you: ‘No servant is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will persecute you as well; if they kept My word, they will keep yours as well.
24. 21MURBut all these things will they do to you, on account of my name, because they know not him that sent me.BSBBSB: But they will treat you like this because of My name, since they do not know the One who sent Me.
25. 22MURIf I had not come and discoursed with them, sin would not have been to them; but now there is no excuse for their sins.BSBBSB: If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin. Now, however, they have no excuse for their sin.
26. 23MURHe that hateth me, hateth my Father also.BSBBSB: Whoever hates Me hates My Father as well.
27. 24MURIf I had not wrought before them works which no other person ever did, sin would not have been to them: but now they have seen, and have hated, both me and my Father;BSBBSB: If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have seen and hated both Me and My Father.
28. 25MURso that in them will be fulfilled the word which is written in their law: They hated me, without a cause.BSBBSB: But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: ‘They hated Me without reason.’
29. 26MURBut when the Comforter shall come, whom I will send to you from my Father, that Spirit of truth who proceedeth from the Father, He will testify of me.BSBBSB: When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father—He will testify about Me.
30. 27MURAnd do ye also testify; for ye have been with me from the beginning.BSBBSB: And you also must testify, because you have been with Me from the beginning.
