1. Righteousness through Faith in Christ

   (Romans 3:21–31)

2. 1MURFinally, my brethren, rejoice in our Lord. To write these things again and again to you, is not irksome to me, because they make you cautious.BSBBSB: Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord. It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you.
3. 2MURBeware of dogs; beware of evil doers; beware of the clipped in flesh.BSBBSB: Watch out for those dogs, those workers of evil, those mutilators of the flesh!
4. 3MURFor we are the real circumcision, who worship God in spirit, and glory in Jesus the Messiah, and place no reliance on the flesh.BSBBSB: For it is we who are the circumcision, we who worship by the Spirit of God, who glory in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh—
5. 4MURAnd yet I might place reliance on the flesh. For, if any one thinketh that his reliance should be on the flesh, I might do so more than he.BSBBSB: though I myself could have such confidence. If anyone else thinks he has grounds for confidence in the flesh, I have more:
6. 5MURCircumcised when eight days old; of the stock of Israel; of the tribe of Benjamin; a Hebrew, descendant of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee;BSBBSB: circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin; a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee;
7. 6MURas to zeal, a persecutor of the church; and as to the righteousness of the law, I was without fault.BSBBSB: as to zeal, persecuting the church; as to righteousness in the law, faultless.
8. 7MURBut these things, which had been my excellence, I have accounted a detriment, because of the Messiah.BSBBSB: But whatever was gain to me I count as loss for the sake of Christ.
9. 8MURAnd now also I account them all a detriment, because of the excellency of the knowledge of Jesus the Messiah my Lord; for the sake of whom, I have parted with all things, and have accounted them as dung, that I might gain the Messiah,BSBBSB: More than that, I count all things as loss compared to the surpassing excellence of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ
10. 9MURand be found in him; since my righteousness is not now that from the law, but that which is from faith in the Messiah, that is, the righteousness which is from God;BSBBSB: and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God on the basis of faith.
11. 10MURthat thereby I might know Jesus, and the efficacy of his resurrection; and might participate in his sufferings, and be assimilated to his death:BSBBSB: I want to know Christ and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to Him in His death,
12. 11MURif so be, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.BSBBSB: and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead.

13. Pressing on toward the Goal

14. 12MURNot as though I had already taken the prize, or were already complete; but I run in the race, if so I may take that, for which Jesus the Messiah took me.BSBBSB: Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
15. 13MURMy brethren, I do not consider myself, as having taken it. But one thing I know, that I forget the things behind me, and reach for the things before me;BSBBSB: Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,
16. 14MURand I run straight for the goal, that I may obtain the prize of victory of the call of God from on high, by Jesus the Messiah.BSBBSB: I press on toward the goal to win the prize of God’s heavenly calling in Christ Jesus.
17. 15MURTherefore let those who are perfect, have these views; and if ye differently view any thing, God will reveal that also to you.BSBBSB: All of us who are mature should embrace this point of view. And if you think differently about some issue, God will reveal this to you as well.
18. 16MURNevertheless, that we may attain to this, let us proceed on in one path, and with one consent.BSBBSB: Nevertheless, we must live up to what we have already attained.

19. Citizenship in Heaven

20. 17MURBe like me, my brethren; and contemplate them, who walk after the pattern ye have seen in us.BSBBSB: Join one another in following my example, brothers, and carefully observe those who walk according to the pattern we set for you.
21. 18MURFor there are many who walk otherwise; of whom I have often told you, and I now tell you, with weeping, that they are adversaries of the cross of the Messiah;BSBBSB: For as I have often told you before, and now say again even with tears: Many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.
22. 19MURwhose end is destruction; whose god is their belly, and their glory their shame; whose thoughts are on things of the earth.BSBBSB: Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and their glory is in their shame. Their minds are set on earthly things.
23. 20MURBut our concern is with heaven; and from thence we expect our Vivifier, our Lord, Jesus the Messiah;BSBBSB: But our citizenship is in heaven, and we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,
24. 21MURwho will change the body of our abasement, that it may have the likeness of the body of his glory, according to his great power, whereby all things are made subject to him.BSBBSB: who, by the power that enables Him to subject all things to Himself, will transform our lowly bodies to be like His glorious body.
