2 GLT For, behold, darkness will cover the earth, and gloom, the nations; yet Yahweh will arise over you, and his glory will be seen on you. BSB BSB: For behold, darkness covers the earth, and thick darkness is over the peoples; but the LORD will rise upon you, and His glory will appear over you.
3 GLT And nations will come to your light, and kings to your rising brightness. BSB BSB: Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.
4 GLT “Lift up your eyes around and see. They all gather to come to you: your sons will come from far, and your daughters supported on the side. BSB BSB: Lift up your eyes and look around: They all gather and come to you; your sons will come from afar, and your daughters will be carried on the arm.
5 GLT Then you will look and be radiant, and your heart will be in awe and broaden, because the abundance of the sea will fall upon you, the wealth of the nations will come to you. 6 GLT Caravans of camels will cover you, young camels of Midian and Ephah. All of them will come from Sheba; they will bring gold and frankincense, and will sing the praises of Yahweh. BSB BSB: Caravans of camels will cover your land, young camels of Midian and Ephah, and all from Sheba will come, bearing gold and frankincense and proclaiming the praises of the LORD.
7 GLT All the flocks of Kedar will be gathered to you, the rams of Nebaioth will serve you; they will ascend my altar with acceptance and I shall glorify my glorious house. 8 GLT “Who{ are} these who fly like a cloud, and like doves to their coops? BSB BSB: Who are these who fly like clouds, like doves to their shelters?
9 GLT For the coastlands wait for me, and the ships of Tarshish first, to bring your sons from afar, their silver and their gold with them, for the name of Yahweh your God, and for the Holy One of Israel, because he has given you glory. BSB BSB: Surely the islands will wait for Me, with the ships of Tarshish in the lead, to bring your children from afar, with their silver and gold, to the honor of the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, for He has glorified you.
10 GLT “And sons of foreigners will rebuild your walls, and their kings will serve you. Though in my wrath I struck you, yet in my favor I shall have compassion on you. BSB BSB: Foreigners will rebuild your walls, and their kings will serve you. Although I struck you in anger, yet in favor I will show you mercy.
11 GLT And your gates will be open always; they will not be shut day or night, so the wealth of the nations may be brought to you, and their kings being led. BSB BSB: Your gates will always stand open; they will never be shut, day or night, so that the wealth of the nations may be brought into you, with their kings being led in procession.
12 GLT For the nations and kingdoms that will not serve you will perish, and the nations will be completely destroyed. BSB BSB: For the nation or kingdom that will not serve you will perish; it will be utterly destroyed.
13 GLT “The glory of Lebanon will come to you, the cypress, the fir, and the cedar altogether, to beautify the place of my sanctuary; and the place of my feet I shall glorify. BSB BSB: The glory of Lebanon will come to you—its cypress, elm, and boxwood together—to adorn the place of My sanctuary, and I will glorify the place of My feet.
14 GLT And they will come to you to bow down, the sons of those who humbled you, and they will bow down at the soles of your feet, all who despised you, and they will call you The City of Yahweh, Zion of the Holy One of Israel. BSB BSB: The sons of your oppressors will come and bow down to you; all who reviled you will fall facedown at your feet and call you the City of the LORD, Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
15 GLT “Instead of you being abandoned and hated, with no one passing through, I will make you a thing of pride forever, a joy from generation to generation. BSB BSB: Whereas you have been forsaken and despised, with no one passing through, I will make you an everlasting pride, a joy from age to age.
16 GLT And you will suckle the milk of the nations, and at the breast of kings you will nurse, and you will know that I, Yahweh,{ am} your Savior and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob. BSB BSB: You will drink the milk of nations and nurse at the breasts of royalty; you will know that I, the LORD, am your Savior and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.
17 GLT Instead of bronze I shall bring gold, and instead of iron I shall bring silver, and instead of wood, bronze, and instead of stones, iron. And I shall appoint peace as your governors, and justice your rulers. BSB BSB: Instead of bronze I will bring you gold; I will bring silver in place of iron, bronze instead of wood, and iron instead of stones. I will appoint peace as your governor and righteousness as your ruler.
18 GLT Violence will no longer be heard in your land, devastation or shattering within your borders; but you will call your walls Salvation, and your gates Praise. BSB BSB: No longer will violence be heard in your land, nor ruin or destruction within your borders. But you will name your walls Salvation and your gates Praise.
19 GLT The sun will no longer be your light by day, and the brightness of the moon will not shine on you; but Yahweh will be your everlasting light, and your God your glory. BSB BSB: No longer will the sun be your light by day, nor the brightness of the moon shine on your night; for the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your splendor.
20 GLT Your sun will no longer set, and your moon will not wane; for Yahweh will be your everlasting light, and the days of your mourning will be ended. BSB BSB: Your sun will no longer set, and your moon will not wane; for the LORD will be your everlasting light, and the days of your sorrow will cease.
21 GLT And your people, all of them{ will be} righteous; for eternity they will possess the land, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, to show my glory. BSB BSB: Then all your people will be righteous; they will possess the land forever; they are the branch of My planting, the work of My hands, so that I may be glorified.
22 GLT The little one will become a thousand, and the small one a strong nation; I, Yahweh, shall hasten it in its time.” BSB BSB: The least of you will become a thousand, and the smallest a mighty nation. I am the LORD; in its time I will accomplish it quickly.
