1 GLT The Spirit of the Lord Yahweh{ is} on me, because Yahweh has anointed me{ to} proclaim good news to the afflicted. He has sent me to bind up the broken of heart, to call out freedom to the captives, and to the bound, liberation, BSB BSB: The Spirit of the Lord GOD is on Me, because the LORD has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom to the prisoners,
2 GLT to proclaim the year of Yahweh’ s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God, and to comfort all who mourn, BSB BSB: to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor and the day of our God’s vengeance, to comfort all who mourn,
3 GLT to grant mourners of Zion, giving them a headdress instead of ashes, oil of joy instead of mourning, a mantle of praise in place of a spirit of dullness, and to call them oaks of righteousness, the planting of Yahweh, to show his glory. BSB BSB: to console the mourners in Zion—to give them a crown of beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, and a garment of praise for a spirit of despair. So they will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.
4 GLT And they will build up the ancient ruins; they will restore the former desolations. and they will rebuild the cities of desolation, the ruins of generation upon generation. BSB BSB: They will rebuild the ancient ruins; they will restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities, the desolations of many generations.
5 GLT And foreigners will stand and feed your flocks, and sons of foreigners{ will be} your farmers and your vinedressers. BSB BSB: Strangers will stand and feed your flocks, and foreigners will be your plowmen and vinedressers.
6 GLT And you will be called the priests of Yahweh; it will be said of you,‘servants of our God.’ The wealth of the nations you will eat, and in their riches you will boast. BSB BSB: But you will be called the priests of the LORD; they will speak of you as ministers of our God; you will feed on the wealth of nations, and you will boast in their riches.
7 GLT Instead of your shame, double; and dishonor, they will rejoice over their share. So of their land they will possess double, everlasting joy will be theirs. BSB BSB: Instead of shame, My people will have a double portion, and instead of humiliation, they will rejoice in their share; and so they will inherit a double portion in their land, and everlasting joy will be theirs.
8 GLT “For I{ am} Yahweh, loving justice, hating unjust robbery, and I shall give their recompense in truth, and I shall cut an everlasting covenant with them. BSB BSB: For I, the LORD, love justice; I hate robbery and iniquity; in My faithfulness I will give them their recompense and make an everlasting covenant with them.
9 GLT And their seed will be known among the nations, and their offspring among the peoples. All who see them will acknowledge them, that they{ are} the seed{ whom} Yahweh has blessed.” BSB BSB: Their descendants will be known among the nations, and their offspring among the peoples. All who see them will acknowledge that they are a people the LORD has blessed.
10 GLT I shall greatly rejoice in Yahweh; my spirit will be glad in my God. For he has dressed me with the garments of salvation; with the robe of righteousness he has clothed me, as a bridegroom embellishes himself with a turban, and as a bride adorns herself with her ornaments. BSB BSB: I will rejoice greatly in the LORD, my soul will exult in my God; for He has clothed me with garments of salvation and wrapped me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom wears a priestly headdress, as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
11 GLT For as the earth produces its sprouts, and as the garden makes its sowing sprout, so the Lord Yahweh will cause righteousness and praise to sprout up in front of all the nations. BSB BSB: For as the earth brings forth its growth, and as a garden enables seed to spring up, so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring up before all the nations.
