1 GLT And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, BSB BSB: Then the LORD said to Moses,
2 GLT “Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them,‘I am Yahweh your God. BSB BSB: “Speak to the Israelites and tell them: I am the LORD your God.
3 GLT Like the doings of the land of Egypt, in which you dwelled, you must not do. And like the doings of the land of Canaan which I am bringing you to, you must not do. You must not walk in their statutes. BSB BSB: You must not follow the practices of the land of Egypt, where you used to live, and you must not follow the practices of the land of Canaan, into which I am bringing you. You must not walk in their customs.
4 GLT My laws you must do, and my statutes you must keep, so that you walk in them. I am Yahweh your God. BSB BSB: You are to practice My judgments and keep My statutes by walking in them. I am the LORD your God.
5 GLT And you must keep my statutes and my laws. The person who does them will live because of them. I am Yahweh. BSB BSB: Keep My statutes and My judgments, for the man who does these things will live by them. I am the LORD.
7 GLT The nakedness of your father and the nakedness of your mother you must not uncover. She is your mother, you must not uncover her nakedness. BSB BSB: You must not expose the nakedness of your father by having sexual relations with your mother. She is your mother; you must not have sexual relations with her.
8 GLT The nakedness of the wife of your father you must not uncover. It is the nakedness of your father. BSB BSB: You must not have sexual relations with your father’s wife; it would dishonor your father.
9 GLT The nakedness of your sister, the daughter of your father or the daughter of your mother, born at home or born outside, you must not uncover their nakedness. BSB BSB: You must not have sexual relations with your sister, either your father’s daughter or your mother’s daughter, whether she was born in the same home or elsewhere.
10 GLT The nakedness of your son’ s daughter or your daughter’ s daughter, you must not uncover their nakedness, for they are your nakedness. BSB BSB: You must not have sexual relations with your son’s daughter or your daughter’s daughter, for that would shame your family.
11 GLT The nakedness of your father’ s wife’ s daughter, the offspring of your father, she is your sister. You must not uncover her nakedness. BSB BSB: You must not have sexual relations with the daughter of your father’s wife, born to your father; she is your sister.
12 GLT The nakedness of your father’ s sister you must not uncover. She is your father’ s relative. BSB BSB: You must not have sexual relations with your father’s sister; she is your father’s close relative.
13 GLT The nakedness of your mother’ s sister you must not uncover, because she is your mother’ s relative. BSB BSB: You must not have sexual relations with your mother’s sister, for she is your mother’s close relative.
14 GLT The nakedness of your father’ s brother you must not uncover, to his wife you must not come near. She is your aunt. BSB BSB: You must not dishonor your father’s brother by approaching his wife to have sexual relations with her; she is your aunt.
15 GLT The nakedness of your daughter- in- law you must not uncover. She is your son’ s wife. You must not uncover her nakedness. BSB BSB: You must not have sexual relations with your daughter-in-law. She is your son’s wife; you are not to have sexual relations with her.
16 GLT The nakedness of your brother’ s wife you must not uncover. That is your brother’ s nakedness. BSB BSB: You must not have sexual relations with your brother’s wife; that would shame your brother.
17 GLT The nakedness of a woman and her daughter you must not uncover. Her son’ s daughter or her daughter’ s daughter you must not take to uncover her nakedness. They are relatives. It is wickedness. BSB BSB: You must not have sexual relations with both a woman and her daughter. You are not to marry her son’s daughter or her daughter’s daughter and have sexual relations with her. They are close relatives; it is depraved.
18 GLT And a woman with her sister you must not take as a rival to uncover her nakedness in addition to her while she is alive. BSB BSB: You must not take your wife’s sister as a rival wife and have sexual relations with her while your wife is still alive.
19 GLT And you must not come near to a woman in the impurity of her uncleanness, to uncover her nakedness. BSB BSB: You must not approach a woman to have sexual relations with her during her menstrual period.
20 GLT And you must not give your emission of seed to your neighbor’ s wife, to become unclean with her. BSB BSB: You must not lie carnally with your neighbor’s wife and thus defile yourself with her.
22 GLT And you must not lie with a male as one lies with a woman. That is detestable. BSB BSB: You must not lie with a man as with a woman; that is an abomination.
23 GLT And with any animal you must not lie to become unclean by it. And a woman must not stand before the face of an animal to lie down with it. That is perversion. BSB BSB: You must not lie carnally with any animal, thus defiling yourself with it; a woman must not stand before an animal to mate with it; that is a perversion.
25 GLT And the land became unclean, so I punished its sin upon it. And the land vomited out its inhabitants. BSB BSB: Even the land has become defiled, so I am punishing it for its sin, and the land will vomit out its inhabitants.
26 GLT And you yourselves must keep my statutes and my laws. And you must not do any of these detestable things, neither the native- born nor the sojourner who sojourns among you BSB BSB: But you are to keep My statutes and ordinances, and you must not commit any of these abominations—neither your native-born nor the foreigner who lives among you.
27 GLT (for all these detestable things the men of the land have done, those who were before you, and the land has become unclean), BSB BSB: For the men who were in the land before you committed all these abominations, and the land has become defiled.
28 GLT so the land does not vomit you out after you have made it unclean, just as it vomited out the nation that was before you. BSB BSB: So if you defile the land, it will vomit you out as it spewed out the nations before you.
29 GLT Indeed, anyone who does any of these detestable things, the people who do such things will be cut off from among their people. BSB BSB: Therefore anyone who commits any of these abominations must be cut off from among his people.
30 GLT And you must keep my obligation not to do any of the detestable customs which were done before you, and not make yourselves unclean by them. I am Yahweh your God.’” BSB BSB: You must keep My charge not to practice any of the abominable customs that were practiced before you, so that you do not defile yourselves by them. I am the LORD your God.”
