GLT So when you give alms, do not sound a trumpet before yourself even as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be glorified by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. BSB BSB: So when you give to the needy, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their full reward.
GLT But you, giving alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, BSB BSB: But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
GLT so that your alms may be in secret, and your Father seeing in secret will reward you. BSB BSB: so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
GLT And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray, having stood in the synagogues and on the corners of the street, so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. BSB BSB: And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their full reward.
GLT But you, when you pray, enter into your inner chamber, and having shut your door, pray to your Father in secret, and your Father seeing in secret will reward you. BSB BSB: But when you pray, go into your inner room, shut your door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
GLT Now praying, do not make useless repetitions even as the Gentiles, for they think that because of their many words they will be heard. BSB BSB: And when you pray, do not babble on like pagans, for they think that by their many words they will be heard.
GLT Therefore, you should not be like them, for your Father knows what need you have before you ask him. BSB BSB: Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
GLT Therefore, you must pray like this:‘Our Father in the heavens, let your name be honored. BSB BSB: So then, this is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.
GLT Let your kingdom come, let your will also be done on earth as{ it is} in heaven. BSB BSB: Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
GLT Give us today our daily bread; BSB BSB: Give us this day our daily bread.
GLT and forgive us our debts, as we also forgave our debtors; BSB BSB: And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
GLT and do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ BSB BSB: And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’
GLT For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. BSB BSB: For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
GLT But if you do not forgive the men, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. BSB BSB: But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive yours.
GLT Now when you fast, do not like the mournful hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces so that they may be seen as fasting by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. BSB BSB: When you fast, do not be somber like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they already have their full reward.
GLT But you,{ when} fasting, anoint your head and wash your face, BSB BSB: But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,
GLT so that you would not appear fasting to men, but only to your Father in secret; and your Father, seeing in secret, will reward you. BSB BSB: so that your fasting will not be obvious to men, but only to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
GLT Do not store up for yourselves treasures on the earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. BSB BSB: Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
GLT Instead, store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in nor steal. BSB BSB: But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
GLT For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. BSB BSB: For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
GLT The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, if your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light. BSB BSB: The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light.
GLT But if your eye is evil, your whole body is full of darkness. Therefore, if the light in you is darkness, how great{ is} the darkness! BSB BSB: But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
GLT No one is able to serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and will love the other, or else he will be devoted to one and will despise the other. You are not able to serve God and wealth. BSB BSB: No one can serve two masters: Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
GLT Because of this I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you might eat or what you might drink, nor about your body, what you might wear. Is not life more than food, and the body,{ than} clothing? BSB BSB: Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?
GLT But who among you, being anxious, is able to add one cubit to his lifespan? BSB BSB: Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
GLT And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They do not labor, nor do they spin{ cloth}. BSB BSB: And why do you worry about clothes? Consider how the lilies of the field grow: They do not labor or spin.
GLT But I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. BSB BSB: Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his glory was adorned like one of these.
GLT But if God thus clothes the grass of the field, existing today and tomorrow being thrown into an oven,{ will he} not much more, you of little faith? BSB BSB: If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
GLT For the Gentiles seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all of these things. BSB BSB: For the Gentiles strive after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
GLT But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. BSB BSB: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.
GLT Therefore, you should not be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day{ is} its evil. BSB BSB: Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.
