1 GLT And the daughters of Zelophehad the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir the son of Manasseh, of the clans of Manasseh the son of Joseph came near. And these were the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah and Hoglah and Milkah and Tirzah. BSB BSB: Now the daughters of Zelophehad son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, belonged to the clans of Manasseh son of Joseph. These were the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. They approached
2 GLT And they stood before the face of Moses and before the face of Eleazar the priest and before the face of the leaders and all the congregation at the opening of the tent of meeting, saying, BSB BSB: the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, stood before Moses, Eleazar the priest, the leaders, and the whole congregation, and said,
3 GLT “Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the midst of the congregation who assembled against Yahweh with the congregation of Korah, but he died in his sin, and there were no sons for him. BSB BSB: “Our father died in the wilderness, but he was not among the followers of Korah who gathered together against the LORD. Instead, he died because of his own sin, and he had no sons.
4 GLT Why should the name of our father be withdrawn from the midst of his clan because there is no son for him? Give to us a possession in the midst of the brothers of our father.” BSB BSB: Why should the name of our father disappear from his clan because he had no sons? Give us property among our father’s brothers.”
5 GLT And Moses brought near their case before the face of Yahweh. BSB BSB: So Moses brought their case before the LORD,
6 GLT And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, BSB BSB: and the LORD answered him,
7 GLT “The daughters of Zelophehad are speaking rightly. You shall certainly give to them the possession of an inheritance in the midst of the brothers of their father, and you shall cause the inheritance of their father to pass over to them. BSB BSB: “The daughters of Zelophehad speak correctly. You certainly must give them property as an inheritance among their father’s brothers and transfer their father’s inheritance to them.
8 GLT And you shall speak to the sons of Israel, saying,‘If a man dies and there is no son for him, then you shall cause his inheritance to pass over to his daughter. BSB BSB: Furthermore, you shall say to the Israelites, ‘If a man dies and leaves no son, you are to transfer his inheritance to his daughter.
9 GLT And if there is no daughter for him, then you shall give his inheritance to his brothers. BSB BSB: If he has no daughter, give his inheritance to his brothers.
10 GLT And if there are no brothers for him, then you shall give his inheritance to the brothers of his father. BSB BSB: If he has no brothers, give his inheritance to his father’s brothers.
11 GLT And if there are no brothers for his father, then you shall give his inheritance to his blood- relative, the nearest to him from his clan, and he shall take possession of it. And it shall be for the sons of Israel as a statute of judgment, just as Yahweh has commanded Moses.’” BSB BSB: And if his father has no brothers, give his inheritance to the next of kin from his clan, that he may take possession of it. This is to be a statutory ordinance for the Israelites, as the LORD has commanded Moses.’”
12 GLT And Yahweh said to Moses,“Go up to this mountain of Abarim, and see the land that I have given to the sons of Israel. BSB BSB: Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go up this mountain of the Abarim range and see the land that I have given the Israelites.
13 GLT And you shall see it and be gathered to your people, also you, just as Aaron your brother was gathered, BSB BSB: After you have seen it, you too will be gathered to your people, as your brother Aaron was;
14 GLT because in the wilderness of Zin, in the quarrel of the congregation, you rebelled against my mouth to regard me as holy at the waters before their eyes.” These are the waters of Meribah Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin. BSB BSB: for when the congregation contended in the Wilderness of Zin, both of you rebelled against My command to show My holiness in their sight regarding the waters.” Those were the waters of Meribah in Kadesh, in the Wilderness of Zin.
15 GLT And Moses spoke to Yahweh, saying, BSB BSB: So Moses appealed to the LORD,
16 GLT “May Yahweh, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation BSB BSB: “May the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation
17 GLT who will go out before the face of them and who will come before the face of them, and who will take them out and who will bring them in, and the congregation of Yahweh will not be like sheep that have no shepherd for them.” BSB BSB: who will go out and come in before them, and who will lead them out and bring them in, so that the congregation of the LORD will not be like sheep without a shepherd.”
18 GLT And Yahweh said to Moses,“Take for yourself Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is a spirit, and lay your hand on him. BSB BSB: And the LORD replied to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man with the Spirit in him, and lay your hands on him.
19 GLT And you shall stand him before the face of Eleazar the priest and before the face of all the congregation, and you shall command him before their eyes. BSB BSB: Have him stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole congregation, and commission him in their sight.
20 GLT And you shall give some of your authority on him, so that all the congregation of the sons of Israel will hear. BSB BSB: Confer on him some of your authority, so that the whole congregation of Israel will obey him.
21 GLT And he shall stand before the face of Eleazar the priest, and he shall ask for him by the judgment of the Urim before the face of Yahweh. In accordance with his mouth he shall go out and in accordance with his mouth he shall come in, he and all the sons of Israel with him and all the congregation.” BSB BSB: He shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who will seek counsel for him before the LORD by the judgment of the Urim. At his command, he and all the Israelites with him—the entire congregation—will go out and come in.”
22 GLT And Moses did just as Yahweh had commanded him, and he took Joshua and stood him before the face of Eleazar the priest and before the face of all the congregation, BSB BSB: Moses did as the LORD had commanded him. He took Joshua, had him stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole congregation,
23 GLT and he laid his hands on him, and he commanded him, just as Yahweh had spoken by the hand of Moses. BSB BSB: and laid his hands on him and commissioned him, as the LORD had instructed through Moses.
