1 GLT And these are the generations of Aaron and Moses in the day Yahweh spoke with Moses on the mountain of Sinai. BSB BSB: This is the account of Aaron and Moses at the time the LORD spoke with Moses on Mount Sinai.
2 GLT And these are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. BSB BSB: These are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the firstborn, then Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
3 GLT These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the priests, the ones who were anointed, whose hand he filled to serve as priest. BSB BSB: These were Aaron’s sons, the anointed priests, who were ordained to serve as priests.
4 GLT And Nadab died and Abihu before the face of Yahweh when they offered unfamiliar fire before the face of Yahweh in the wilderness of Sinai, and sons were not belonging to them. And Eleazar served as priest and Ithamar with the face of Aaron their father. BSB BSB: Nadab and Abihu, however, died in the presence of the LORD when they offered unauthorized fire before the LORD in the Wilderness of Sinai. And since they had no sons, only Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests during the lifetime of their father Aaron.
5 GLT And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, BSB BSB: Then the LORD said to Moses,
6 GLT “Bring near the tribe of Levi and stand it before the face of Aaron the priest. And they shall serve him. BSB BSB: “Bring the tribe of Levi and present them to Aaron the priest to assist him.
7 GLT And they shall keep his keeping and the keeping of all the congregation before the face of the tent of meeting, to serve the service of the dwelling. BSB BSB: They are to perform duties for him and for the whole congregation before the Tent of Meeting, attending to the service of the tabernacle.
8 GLT And they shall keep all the vessels of the tent of meeting and the keeping of the sons of Israel, to serve the service of the dwelling. BSB BSB: They shall take care of all the furnishings of the Tent of Meeting and fulfill obligations for the Israelites by attending to the service of the tabernacle.
9 GLT And you shall give the Levites to Aaron and to his sons. They are given, given to him from with the sons of Israel. BSB BSB: Assign the Levites to Aaron and his sons; they have been given exclusively to him from among the Israelites.
10 GLT And you shall appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall keep their priesthood. And the stranger who comes near shall be put to death.” BSB BSB: So you shall appoint Aaron and his sons to carry out the duties of the priesthood; but any outsider who approaches the tabernacle must be put to death.”
11 GLT And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, BSB BSB: Again the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
12 GLT “And I, behold, I have taken the Levites from the midst of the sons of Israel instead of every firstborn, the opener of the womb from the sons of Israel, and the Levites are for me, BSB BSB: “Behold, I have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel in place of every firstborn Israelite from the womb. The Levites belong to Me,
13 GLT for every firstborn belongs to me. In the day of my striking down every firstborn in the land of Egypt, I set apart for me every firstborn in Israel, from human up to livestock. They are for me. I am Yahweh.” BSB BSB: for all the firstborn are Mine. On the day I struck down every firstborn in the land of Egypt, I consecrated to Myself all the firstborn in Israel, both man and beast. They are Mine; I am the LORD.”
14 GLT And Yahweh spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying, BSB BSB: Then the LORD spoke to Moses in the Wilderness of Sinai, saying,
15 GLT “Count the sons of Levi according to the house of their fathers, according to their clans. You shall count them, every male from a son of a month and upward.” BSB BSB: “Number the Levites by their families and clans. You are to count every male a month old or more.”
16 GLT And Moses counted them in accordance with the mouth of Yahweh, just as he was commanded. BSB BSB: So Moses numbered them according to the word of the LORD, as he had been commanded.
17 GLT And these were the sons of Levi by their names: Gershon and Kohath and Merari. BSB BSB: These were the sons of Levi by name: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
18 GLT And these are the names of the sons of Gershon according to their clans: Libni and Shimei. BSB BSB: These were the names of the sons of Gershon by their clans: Libni and Shimei.
19 GLT And the sons of Kohath according to their clans were Amram and Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel. BSB BSB: The sons of Kohath by their clans were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.
20 GLT And the sons of Merari according to their clans were Mahli and Mushi. These are they, the clans of the Levites according to the house of their fathers. BSB BSB: And the sons of Merari by their clans were Mahli and Mushi. These were the clans of the Levites, according to their families.
21 GLT Of Gershon were the clan of the Libnite and the clan of the Shimeite. These are they, the clans of the Gershonite. BSB BSB: From Gershon came the Libnite clan and the Shimeite clan; these were the Gershonite clans.
22 GLT Their counted ones by the number of every male from a son of a month and upward, their counted ones were 7, 500. BSB BSB: The number of all the males a month old or more was 7,500.
23 GLT The clans of the Gershonites were to camp behind the dwelling, to the west. BSB BSB: The Gershonite clans were to camp on the west, behind the tabernacle,
24 GLT And the leader of the house of the father of the Gershonite was Eliasaph the son of Lael. BSB BSB: and the leader of the families of the Gershonites was Eliasaph son of Lael.
25 GLT And the keeping of the sons of Gershon in the tent of meeting was the dwelling and the tent, its covering and the curtain of the opening of the tent of meeting BSB BSB: The duties of the Gershonites at the Tent of Meeting were the tabernacle and tent, its covering, the curtain for the entrance to the Tent of Meeting,
26 GLT and the hangings of the courtyard and the curtains of the opening of the courtyard that is upon the dwelling and upon the altar all around, and its ropes for all its service. BSB BSB: the curtains of the courtyard, the curtain for the entrance to the courtyard that surrounds the tabernacle and altar, and the cords—all the service for these items.
27 GLT And of Kohath were the clan of the Amramite and the clan of the Izharite and the clan of the Hebronite and the clan of the Uzzielite. These are they, the clans of the Kohathite. BSB BSB: From Kohath came the clans of the Amramites, the Izharites, the Hebronites, and the Uzzielites; these were the clans of the Kohathites.
28 GLT By the number of every male from a son of a month and upward, 8, 600 were the keepers of the keeping of the holy place. BSB BSB: The number of all the males a month old or more was 8,600. They were responsible for the duties of the sanctuary.
29 GLT The clans of the sons of Kohath were to camp on the side of the dwelling to the south. BSB BSB: The clans of the Kohathites were to camp on the south side of the tabernacle,
30 GLT And the leader of the house of the father of the clans of the Kohathite was Elizaphan the son of Uzziel. BSB BSB: and the leader of the families of the Kohathites was Elizaphan son of Uzziel.
31 GLT And their duty was the box and the table and the lampstand and the altar and the vessels of the holy place with which they serve and the covering, and all its service. BSB BSB: Their duties were the ark, the table, the lampstand, the altars, the articles of the sanctuary used with them, and the curtain—all the service for these items.
32 GLT And the leader of the leaders of the Levites was Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, the oversight of the keepers of the keeping of the holy place. BSB BSB: The chief of the leaders of the Levites was Eleazar son of Aaron the priest; he oversaw those responsible for the duties of the sanctuary.
33 GLT Of Merari were the clan of the Mahlite and the clan of the Mushite. These are they, the clans of Merari. BSB BSB: From Merari came the clans of the Mahlites and Mushites; these were the Merarite clans.
34 GLT And their counted ones by the number of every male from a son of a month and upward were 6, 200, BSB BSB: The number of all the males a month old or more was 6,200.
35 GLT and the leader of the house of the father of the clans of Merari was Zuriel the son of Abihail. They were to camp on the side of the dwelling to the north. BSB BSB: The leader of the families of the Merarites was Zuriel son of Abihail; they were to camp on the north side of the tabernacle.
36 GLT And the oversight of the duty of the sons of Merari was the boards of the dwelling and its bars and its pillars and its bases and all its vessels, and all its service, BSB BSB: The duties assigned to the sons of Merari were the tabernacle’s frames, crossbars, posts, bases, and all its equipment—all the service for these items,
37 GLT and the pillars of the courtyard all around and their bases and their pegs and their ropes. BSB BSB: as well as the posts of the surrounding courtyard with their bases, tent pegs, and ropes.
38 GLT And the ones camping before the face of the dwelling to the east, before the face of the tent of meeting toward the sunrise, were to be Moses and Aaron and his sons, the keepers of the keeping of the holy place, according to the keeping of the sons of Israel. And the stranger who comes near shall be put to death. BSB BSB: Moses, Aaron, and Aaron’s sons were to camp to the east of the tabernacle, toward the sunrise, before the Tent of Meeting. They were to perform the duties of the sanctuary as a service on behalf of the Israelites; but any outsider who approached the sanctuary was to be put to death.
39 GLT All the counted ones of the Levites whom Moses and Aaron counted in accordance with the mouth of Yahweh, according to their clans, every male from a son of a month and upward, were 22, 000. BSB BSB: The total number of Levites that Moses and Aaron counted by their clans at the LORD’s command, including all the males a month old or more, was 22,000.
40 GLT And Yahweh said to Moses,“Count every firstborn male of the sons of Israel from a son of a month and upward. And lift up the number of their names. BSB BSB: Then the LORD said to Moses, “Number every firstborn male of the Israelites a month old or more, and list their names.
41 GLT And you shall take the Levites for me— I am Yahweh— instead of all the firstborn of the sons of Israel, and the livestock of the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the livestock of the sons of Israel.” BSB BSB: You are to take the Levites for Me—I am the LORD—in place of all the firstborn of Israel, and the livestock of the Levites in place of all the firstborn of the livestock of the Israelites.”
42 GLT And Moses counted all the firstborn of the sons of Israel, just as Yahweh had commanded him. BSB BSB: So Moses numbered all the firstborn of the Israelites, as the LORD had commanded him.
43 GLT And it happened that every firstborn male by the number of the names from a son of a month and upward, according to their counted ones, was 22, 273. BSB BSB: The total number of the firstborn males a month old or more, listed by name, was 22,273.
44 GLT And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, BSB BSB: Again the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
45 GLT “Take the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the sons of Israel, and the livestock of the Levites instead of their livestock(and the Levites shall belong to me— I am Yahweh), BSB BSB: “Take the Levites in place of all the firstborn of Israel, and the livestock of the Levites in place of their livestock. The Levites belong to Me; I am the LORD.
46 GLT and the ransoms of the 273, the ones in excess over the Levites from the firstborn of the sons of Israel. BSB BSB: To redeem the 273 firstborn Israelites who outnumber the Levites,
47 GLT And you shall take five, five shekels for the skull. You shall take by the shekel of the holy place(20 gerahs is the shekel). BSB BSB: you are to collect five shekels for each one, according to the sanctuary shekel of twenty gerahs.
48 GLT And you shall give the silver to Aaron and to his sons, the ransom of the ones in excess among them.” BSB BSB: Give the money to Aaron and his sons as the redemption price for the excess among the Israelites.”
49 GLT And Moses took the silver of the ransom from with the ones in excess over the ransomed ones of the Levites. BSB BSB: So Moses collected the redemption money from those in excess of the number redeemed by the Levites.
50 GLT From with the firstborn of the sons of Israel he took the silver: 1, 365 by the shekel of the holy place. BSB BSB: He collected the money from the firstborn of the Israelites: 1,365 shekels, according to the sanctuary shekel.
51 GLT And Moses gave the silver of the ransom to Aaron and to his sons in accordance with the mouth of Yahweh, just as Yahweh had commanded Moses. BSB BSB: And Moses gave the redemption money to Aaron and his sons in obedience to the word of the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded him.
