1На третий год правления иудейского царя Иоакима вавилонский царь Навуходоносор пришёл к Иерусалиму и осадил его.In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it.

2Господь отдал в его руку иудейского царя Иоакима и часть сосудов Божьего дома. Он отправил их в землю Сеннаар, в дом своего бога, и внёс эти сосуды в сокровищницу своего бога.And the Lord delivered into his hand Jehoiakim king of Judah, along with some of the articles from the house of God. He carried these off to the land of Shinar, to the house of his god, where he put them in the treasury of his god.

3Царь сказал Асфеназу, начальнику своих евнухов, чтобы он привёл из сыновей Израиля, из царского и знатного рода,Then the king ordered Ashpenaz, the chief of his court officials, to bring in some Israelites from the royal family and the nobility—

4юношей, у которых нет никакого телесного недостатка, красивых видом, смышлёных, способных понимать разные науки, годных к службе в царских дворцах, и чтобы научил их книгам и халдейскому языку.young men without blemish, handsome, gifted in all wisdom, knowledgeable, quick to understand, and qualified to serve in the king’s palace—and to teach them the language and literature of the Chaldeans.

5Царь назначил им ежедневную пищу с царского стола и вино, которое сам пил. Он велел воспитывать их три года, по истечении которых они должны были явиться к царю.The king assigned them daily provisions of the royal food and wine. They were to be trained for three years, after which they were to enter the king’s service.

6Среди них были из сыновей Иуды: Даниил, Анания, Мисаил и Азария.Among these young men were some from Judah: Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.

7Начальник евнухов дал им новые имена: Даниилу— Валтасар, Анании— Седрах, Мисаилу— Мисах и Азарии— Авденаго.The chief official gave them new names: To Daniel he gave the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego.

8Даниил решил в своём сердце не оскверняться едой с царского стола и вином, которое пьёт царь, и поэтому просил начальника евнухов о том, чтобы ему не оскверняться едой.But Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile himself with the king’s food or wine. So he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself.

9Бог дал Даниилу милость и доброе расположение начальника евнухов.Now God had granted Daniel favor and compassion from the chief official,

10Начальник евнухов сказал Даниилу: «Я боюсь моего господина, царя, который сам назначил вам пищу и питьё. Если он увидит, что ваши лица худощавее, чем у юношей вашего возраста, то вы сделаете меня виновным перед царём».but he said to Daniel, “I fear my lord the king, who has assigned your food and drink. For why should he see your faces looking thinner than those of the other young men your age? You would endanger my head before the king!”

11Тогда Даниил сказал Амелсару, которого начальник евнухов приставил к Даниилу, Анании, Мисаилу и Азарии:Then Daniel said to the steward whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,

12«Испытай своих рабов в течение десяти дней. Пусть дают нам в пищу овощи и воду для питья.“Please test your servants for ten days. Let us be given only vegetables to eat and water to drink.

13А потом посмотри на наши лица и на лица тех юношей, которые едят царскую пищу. Затем поступай со своими рабами как увидишь».Then compare our appearances with those of the young men who are eating the royal food, and deal with your servants according to what you see.”

14Он послушался их в этом и испытывал их десять дней.So he consented to this and tested them for ten days.

15По истечении десяти дней их лица оказались красивее, и телом они были полнее всех тех юношей, которые питались царской пищей.And at the end of ten days, they looked healthier and better nourished than all the young men who were eating the king’s food.

16Тогда Амелсар брал их еду и вино для питья и давал им овощи.So the steward continued to withhold their choice food and the wine they were to drink, and he gave them vegetables instead.

17Этим четырём юношам Бог дал мудрость, знание и понимание разных книг, а Даниилу дал ещё понимание разных видений и снов.To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding in every kind of literature and wisdom. And Daniel had insight into all kinds of visions and dreams.

18После окончания тех дней, когда царь приказал привести их, начальник евнухов привёл их к Навуходоносору.Now at the end of the time specified by the king, the chief official presented them to Nebuchadnezzar.

19Царь говорил с ними, и не нашлось среди всех юношей равных Даниилу, Анании, Мисаилу и Азарии. И они стали служить при царе.And the king spoke with them, and among all the young men he found no one equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. So they entered the king’s service.

20В любом деле, требующем мудрого понимания, о чём бы ни спрашивал их царь, он находил их в десять раз лучше всех мудрецов и жрецов, какие были во всём его царстве.In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king consulted them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his entire kingdom.

21Даниил был там до первого года правления царя Кира.And Daniel remained there until the first year of King Cyrus.
