1Когда Мардохей узнал обо всём, что происходило, то разорвал свою одежду, надел на себя лохмотья, посыпал себя пеплом, вышел в центр города и кричал громким и горьким воплем.When Mordecai learned of all that had happened, he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and ashes, and went out into the middle of the city, wailing loudly and bitterly.

2Он дошёл до царских ворот, так как нельзя было входить в царские ворота в лохмотьях.But he went only as far as the king’s gate, because the law prohibited anyone wearing sackcloth from entering that gate.

3В каждой области и месте, куда только доходил приказ царя и его указание, также была огромная скорбь среди иудеев, и пост, и плач, и вопль, а лохмотья и пепел служили постелью для многих.In every province to which the king’s command and edict came, there was great mourning among the Jews. They fasted, wept, and lamented, and many lay in sackcloth and ashes.

4Пришли служанки Есфири и её евнухи и всё рассказали ей. Царица сильно встревожилась. Она послала одежду, чтобы Мардохей надел её и снял с себя свои лохмотья, но он не принял.When Esther’s maidens and eunuchs came and told her about Mordecai, the queen was overcome with distress. She sent clothes for Mordecai to wear instead of his sackcloth, but he would not accept them.

5Тогда Есфирь позвала Гафаха, одного из евнухов царя, которого он приставил к ней, и послала его к Мардохею узнать о том, что случилось и почему.Then Esther summoned Hathach, one of the king’s eunuchs appointed to her, and she dispatched him to Mordecai to learn what was troubling him and why.

6Гафах пошёл к Мардохею на городскую площадь, которая перед царскими воротами.So Hathach went out to Mordecai in the city square in front of the king’s gate,

7Мардохей рассказал ему обо всём, что с ним случилось: об определённом числе серебра, которое обещал Аман отвесить в царскую казну за иудеев, чтобы убить их.and Mordecai told him all that had happened to him, including the exact amount of money that Haman had promised to pay into the royal treasury in order to destroy the Jews.

8Он вручил евнуху копию указа, обнародованного в Сузах, об их уничтожении, чтобы показать Есфири и дать ей знать обо всём. При этом приказал ей, чтобы она пошла к царю и молила его о помиловании и просила его за свой народ.Mordecai also gave Hathach a copy of the written decree issued in Susa for the destruction of the Jews, to show and explain to Esther, urging her to approach the king, implore his favor, and plead before him for her people.

9Гафах пришёл и пересказал Есфири слова Мардохея.So Hathach went back and relayed Mordecai’s response to Esther.

10Есфирь, выслушав Гафаха, послала его сказать Мардохею:Then Esther spoke to Hathach and instructed him to tell Mordecai,

11«Все служащие при царе и народы в царских областях знают, что каждому, мужчине и женщине, кто войдёт к царю во внутренний двор без приглашения, один суд— смерть. Только тот, к кому царь протянет свой золотой скипетр, останется жив. А царь не звал меня к себе вот уже тридцать дней».“All the royal officials and the people of the king’s provinces know that one law applies to every man or woman who approaches the king in the inner court without being summoned—that he be put to death. Only if the king extends the gold scepter may that person live. But I have not been summoned to appear before the king for the past thirty days.”

12Мардохею пересказали слова Есфири.When Esther’s words were relayed to Mordecai,

13Мардохей сказал в ответ Есфири:«Не думай, что ты одна спасёшься в царском доме из всех иудеев.he sent back to her this reply: “Do not imagine that because you are in the king’s palace you alone will escape the fate of all the Jews.

14Если ты промолчишь в это время, то свобода и спасение придёт для иудеев из другого места, а ты и дом твоего отца погибнете. Кто знает, не для этого ли времени ты достигла царского звания?»For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows if perhaps you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”

15Есфирь ответила Мардохею:Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai:

16«Пойди, собери всех иудеев, находящихся в Сузах, и поститесь за меня, не ешьте и не пейте три дня, ни днём, ни ночью. Я с моими служанками буду также поститься, а потом пойду к царю, хотя это против закона, и если погибну, то погибну».“Go and assemble all the Jews who can be found in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day, and I and my maidens will fast as you do. After that, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish!”

17Мардохей пошёл и сделал, как приказала ему Есфирь.So Mordecai went and did all that Esther had instructed him.
