1Ефремляне собрались и перешли в Севину. И сказали Иеффаю: «Почему ты ходил воевать против аммонитян, а нас не позвал с собой? Мы сожжём дом твой огнём, и с тобой вместе».Then the men of Ephraim assembled and crossed the Jordan to Zaphon. They said to Jephthah, “Why have you crossed over to fight the Ammonites without calling us to go with you? We will burn your house down with you inside!”

2Иеффай сказал им: «Я и мой народ имели с аммонитянами сильную ссору. Я звал вас, но вы не спасли меня от их рук.But Jephthah replied, “My people and I had a serious conflict with the Ammonites, and when I called, you did not save me out of their hands.

3Видя, что ты не спасаешь меня, я подверг опасности мою жизнь и пошёл на аммонитян, и Господь отдал их в мои руки. Зачем же вы пришли теперь воевать против меня?»When I saw that you would not save me, I risked my life and crossed over to the Ammonites, and the LORD delivered them into my hand. Why then have you come today to fight against me?”

4Иеффай собрал всех жителей Галаада и сразился с ефремлянами. Жители Галаада побили ефремлян и говорили: «Вы беглецы Ефрема, Галаад же среди Ефрема и среди Манассии».Jephthah then gathered all the men of Gilead and fought against Ephraim. And the men of Gilead struck them down because the Ephraimites had said, “You Gileadites are fugitives in Ephraim, living in the territories of Ephraim and Manasseh.”

5Галаадитяне перехватили у ефремлян переправу через Иордан, и когда кто-то из уцелевших ефремлян говорил: «Позвольте мне переправиться», то жители Галаада говорили ему: «Не ефремлянин ли ты?» Он говорил: «Нет».The Gileadites captured the fords of the Jordan leading to Ephraim, and whenever a fugitive from Ephraim would say, “Let me cross over,” the Gileadites would ask him, “Are you an Ephraimite?” If he answered, “No,”

6Они говорили ему: «Скажи шибболет», а он говорил: «Сибболет», и не мог по-другому выговорить. Тогда они, взяв его, убивали у переправы через Иордан. И погибло в то время сорок две тысячи ефремлян.they told him, “Please say Shibboleth.” If he said, “Sibboleth,” because he could not pronounce it correctly, they seized him and killed him at the fords of the Jordan. So at that time 42,000 Ephraimites were killed.

7Иеффай был судьёй Израиля шесть лет. Галаадитянин Иеффай умер и похоронен в одном из городов Галаада.Jephthah judged Israel six years, and when he died, he was buried in one of the cities of Gilead.

8После него судьёй Израиля был Есевон из Вифлеема.After Jephthah, Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel.

9У него было тридцать сыновей, и тридцать дочерей он отпустил из дома. А тридцать дочерей взял со стороны за своих сыновей. И был судьёй Израиля семь лет.He had thirty sons, as well as thirty daughters whom he gave in marriage to men outside his clan; and for his sons he brought back thirty wives from elsewhere. Ibzan judged Israel seven years.

10Есевон умер и похоронен в Вифлееме.Then Ibzan died, and he was buried in Bethlehem.

11После него судьёй Израиля был завулонянин Елон и судил Израиль десять лет.After Ibzan, Elon the Zebulunite judged Israel ten years.

12Завулонянин Елон умер и похоронен в Аиалоне, в земле Завулона.Then Elon the Zebulunite died, and he was buried in Aijalon in the land of Zebulun.

13После него судьёй Израиля был пирафонянин Авдон, сын Гиллела.After Elon, Abdon son of Hillel, from Pirathon, judged Israel.

14У него было сорок сыновей и тридцать внуков, которые ездили на семидесяти молодых ослах. Он судил Израиль восемь лет.He had forty sons and thirty grandsons, who rode on seventy donkeys. And he judged Israel eight years.

15Пирафонянин Авдон, сын Гиллела, умер и похоронен в Пирафоне, в земле Ефрема, на горе Амалика.Then Abdon son of Hillel, from Pirathon, died, and he was buried at Pirathon in Ephraim, in the hill country of the Amalekites.
