1கானான் தேசத்தில் நடந்த எல்லா யுத்தங்களையும் அறியாமலிருந்த இஸ்ரவேலர்களாகிய அனைவரையும் சோதிப்பதற்காகவும்,These are the nations that the LORD left to test all the Israelites who had not known any of the wars in Canaan,

2இஸ்ரவேலின் புதிய சந்ததியாரும், அதற்குமுன்பு யுத்தம் செய்ய அறியாமலிருந்தவர்களும் அவைகளை அறியும்படி பழக்குவிப்பதற்காகவும் கர்த்தர் விட்டுவைத்தவர்கள் யாரென்றால்:if only to teach warfare to the subsequent generations of Israel, especially to those who had not known it formerly:

3பெலிஸ்தர்களின் ஐந்து அதிபதிகளும், எல்லா கானானியர்களும், சீதோனியர்களும், பாகால் எர்மோன் துவங்கி ஆமாத்திற்குள் நுழையும்வரைக்கும் லீபனோனின் மலைகளிலே குடியிருக்கிற ஏவியர்களுமே.the five rulers of the Philistines, all the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites who lived in the mountains of Lebanon from Mount Baal-hermon to Lebo-hamath.

4கர்த்தர் மோசேயைக்கொண்டு தங்களுடைய பிதாக்களுக்கு விதித்த கட்டளைகளுக்கு இஸ்ரவேலர்கள் கீழ்ப்படிவார்களோ என்று அறியும்படி, இஸ்ரவேலர்கள் அவர்களாலே சோதிப்பதற்காக அவர்கள் விடப்பட்டிருந்தார்கள்.These nations were left to test the Israelites, to find out whether they would keep the commandments of the LORD, which He had given their fathers through Moses.

5இப்படி இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள், கானானியர்கள், ஏத்தியர்கள், எமோரியர்கள், பெரிசியர்கள், ஏவியர்கள், எபூசியர்களாகிய இவர்களின் நடுவே குடியிருந்து,Thus the Israelites continued to live among the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites.

6அவர்களுடைய மகள்களை திருமணம்செய்து, தங்களுடைய மகள்களை அவர்களுடைய மகன்களுக்குக் கொடுத்து, அவர்களுடைய தெய்வங்களைத் தொழுதுகொண்டார்கள்.And they took the daughters of these people in marriage, gave their own daughters to their sons, and served their gods.

7இப்படி இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் கர்த்தரின் பார்வைக்குத் தீமையானதைச் செய்து, தங்கள் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தரை மறந்து, பாகால்களையும் தோப்பு விக்கிரகங்களையும் தொழுதுகொள்கிறபோது,So the Israelites did evil in the sight of the LORD; they forgot the LORD their God and served the Baals and the Asherahs.

8கர்த்தர் இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் கோபம் கொண்டு அவர்களை மெசொப்பொத்தாமியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய கூசான்ரிஷதாயீமின் கையிலே விற்றுப்போட்டார்; இப்படியே இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் கூசான்ரிஷதாயீமை எட்டு வருடங்கள் பணிந்துகொண்டார்கள்.Then the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He sold them into the hand of Cushan-rishathaim king of Aram-naharaim, and the Israelites served him eight years.

9இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் கர்த்தரை நோக்கிக் கூப்பிட்டபோது, கர்த்தர் இஸ்ரவேல் மக்களை காப்பாற்றும்படி காலேபின் தம்பியான கேனாசுடைய மகனான ஒத்னியேல் என்னும் ஒரு இரட்சகனை அவர்களுக்கு எழும்பச்செய்தார்.But when the Israelites cried out to the LORD, He raised up Othniel son of Caleb’s younger brother Kenaz as a deliverer to save them.

10அவன்மேல் கர்த்தருடைய ஆவி வந்து அவனை பெலப்படுத்தியதால், அவன் இஸ்ரவேலை நியாயம் விசாரித்து, யுத்தம்செய்யப் புறப்பட்டான்; கர்த்தர் மெசொப்பொத்தாமியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய கூசான்ரிஷதாயீமை அவன் கையிலே ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்; ஆகையால் அவனுடைய கை கூசான்ரிஷதாயீமின்மேல் பெலங்கொண்டது.The Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he became Israel’s judge and went out to war. And the LORD delivered Cushan-rishathaim king of Aram into the hand of Othniel, who prevailed against him.

11தேசம் நாற்பது வருடங்கள் அமைதலாக இருந்தது. கேனாசின் மகனான ஒத்னியேல் இறந்துபோனான்.So the land had rest for forty years, until Othniel son of Kenaz died.

12இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் மறுபடியும் கர்த்தரின் பார்வைக்குத் தீமையானதைச் செய்தார்கள்; அவர்கள் கர்த்தரின் பார்வைக்குத் தீமையானதைச் செய்தபடியால், கர்த்தர் எக்லோன் என்னும் மோவாபின் ராஜாவை இஸ்ரவேலிற்கு எதிராக பெலனடையச் செய்தார்.Once again the Israelites did evil in the sight of the LORD. So He gave Eglon king of Moab power over Israel, because they had done evil in the sight of the LORD.

13அவன் அம்மோனிய மக்களையும் அமலேக்கியர்களையும் அழைத்துக்கொண்டுவந்து, இஸ்ரவேலை முறியடித்தான்; பேரீச்சை மரங்களின் பட்டணத்தையும் பிடித்தான்.After enlisting the Ammonites and Amalekites to join forces with him, Eglon attacked and defeated Israel, taking possession of the City of Palms.

14இவ்வாறு இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் எக்லோன் என்னும் மோவாபின் ராஜாவைப் பதினெட்டு வருடங்கள் பணிந்துகொண்டார்கள்.The Israelites served Eglon king of Moab eighteen years.

15இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் கர்த்தரை நோக்கிக் கூப்பிட்டபோது, கர்த்தர் அவர்களுக்குப் பென்யமீன் கோத்திரத்தானாகிய கேராவின் மகன் ஏகூத் என்னும் இரட்சகனை எழும்பச்செய்தார்; அவன் இடதுகைப் பழக்கமுள்ளவனாக இருந்தான்; அவனுடைய கையிலே இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் மோவாபின் ராஜாவாகிய எக்லோனுக்குக் காணிக்கை அனுப்பினார்கள்.And again they cried out to the LORD, and He raised up Ehud son of Gera, a left-handed Benjamite, as their deliverer. So they sent him with tribute to Eglon king of Moab.

16ஏகூத், இருபுறமும் கூர்மையான ஒரு முழ நீளமுமான ஒரு பட்டயத்தை உண்டாக்கி, அதைத் தன்னுடைய ஆடைக்குள்ளே தன்னுடைய வலதுபுற இடுப்பிலே கட்டிக்கொண்டு,Now Ehud had made for himself a double-edged sword a cubit long. He strapped it to his right thigh under his cloak

17காணிக்கையை மோவாபின் ராஜாவாகிய எக்லோனுக்குச் செலுத்தினான்; எக்லோன் மிகவும் பருமனான மனிதனாக இருந்தான்.and brought the tribute to Eglon king of Moab, who was an obese man.

18அவன் காணிக்கையைச் செலுத்தி முடிந்தபின்பு, காணிக்கையைச் சுமந்து வந்த மக்களை அனுப்பிவிட்டான்.After Ehud had finished presenting the tribute, he ushered out those who had carried it.

19அவனோ கில்காலிலுள்ள சிலைகள் இருக்கும் இடத்திலிருந்து திரும்பிவந்து: ராஜாவே, உம்மிடத்தில் சொல்லவேண்டிய இரகசியமான ஒரு வார்த்தை உண்டு என்றான். அதற்கு அவன்: பொறு என்றான்; அப்பொழுது அவனிடத்தில் நின்ற அனைவரும் அவனை விட்டு வெளியே போய்விட்டார்கள்.But upon reaching the idols near Gilgal, he himself turned back and said, “I have a secret message for you, O king.” “Silence,” said the king, and all his attendants left him.

20ஏகூத் அவன் அருகில் போனான்; அவனோ தனக்குத் தனியாக இருந்த குளிர்ச்சியான மேல் வீட்டு அறையில் உட்கார்ந்திருந்தான்; அப்பொழுது ஏகூத்: உம்மிடம் சொல்லவேண்டிய தேவ வாக்கு என்னிடம் உண்டு என்றான்; அவன் தன்னுடைய இருக்கையிலிருந்து எழுந்தான்.Then Ehud approached him while he was sitting alone in the coolness of his upper room. “I have a word from God for you,” Ehud said, and the king rose from his seat.

21உடனே ஏகூத் தன்னுடைய இடதுகையை நீட்டி, தன்னுடைய வலதுபுற இடுப்பிலே கட்டியிருந்த பட்டயத்தை உருவி, அதை அவனுடைய வயிற்றிற்குள் குத்தினான்.And Ehud reached with his left hand, pulled the sword from his right thigh, and plunged it into Eglon’s belly.

22கத்தியோடு கைப்பிடியும் உள்ளே போனது; அவனுடைய வயிற்றிற்குள் போன கத்தியை இவன் இழுக்கமுடியாதபடி, கொழுப்பு கத்தியைச் சுற்றிக் கொண்டது; அது பின்புறமாக வந்தது.Even the handle sank in after the blade, and Eglon’s fat closed in over it, so that Ehud did not withdraw the sword from his belly. And Eglon’s bowels emptied.

23ஏகூத் புறப்பட்டு, மேல் வீட்டு அறையின் கதவை மூடிப் பூட்டிவிட்டு, தலைவாசல் வழியாகப் போய்விட்டான்.Then Ehud went out through the porch, closing and locking the doors of the upper room behind him.

24அவன் போனபின்பு வேலைக்காரர்கள் வந்து பார்த்தார்கள்; இதோ, மேல் வீட்டு அறையின் கதவு பூட்டியிருந்தது; ஆகையால் அவர் அந்தக் குளிர்ச்சியான வீட்டிலே கழிவறையில் இருக்கலாம் என்றார்கள்.After Ehud was gone, Eglon’s servants came in and found the doors of the upper room locked. “He must be relieving himself in the cool room,” they said.

25அவர்கள் சலித்துப்போகும் வரைக்கும் காத்திருந்தார்கள்; அவன் மேல் வீட்டு அறையின் கதவைத் திறக்கவில்லை; ஆகையால் ஒரு திறவுகோலை எடுத்துத் திறந்தார்கள்; இதோ, அவர்களுடைய எஜமான் தரையிலே இறந்துக்கிடந்தான்.So they waited until they became worried and saw that he had still not opened the doors of the upper room. Then they took the key and opened the doors—and there was their lord lying dead on the floor.

26அவர்கள் தாமதித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தபோது, ஏகூத் ஓடிப்போய், சிலைகளுள்ள இடத்தைக் கடந்து, சேயிராத்தைச் சேர்ந்து தப்பினான்.Ehud, however, had escaped while the servants waited. He passed by the idols and escaped to Seirah.

27அங்கே வந்தபோது எப்பிராயீம் மலையில் எக்காளம் ஊதினான்; அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் அவனோடு மலையிலிருந்து இறங்கினார்கள்; அவன் அவர்களுக்கு முன்பாக நடந்து:On arriving in Seirah, he blew the ram’s horn throughout the hill country of Ephraim. The Israelites came down with him from the hills, and he became their leader.

28என்னைப் பின்தொடர்ந்து வாருங்கள்; கர்த்தர் உங்கள் எதிரிகளாகிய மோவாபியர்களை உங்களுடைய கைகளில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார் என்றான். அவர்கள் அவனைப் பின்தொடர்ந்துபோய், மோவாபுக்கு எதிரான யோர்தான் துறைமுகத்தைப் பிடித்து, ஒருவனையும் கடந்துபோகவிடாமல்,“Follow me,” he told them, “for the LORD has delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand.” So they followed him down and seized the fords of the Jordan leading to Moab, and they did not allow anyone to cross over.

29அக்காலத்திலே மோவாபியர்களில் ஏறக்குறையப் பத்தாயிரம் பேரை வெட்டினார்கள்; அவர்கள் எல்லாரும் திறமையுள்ளவர்களும் பலசாலிகளுமாயிருந்தார்கள்; அவர்களில் ஒருவனும் தப்பவில்லை.At that time they struck down about ten thousand Moabites, all robust and valiant men. Not one of them escaped.

30இப்படியே அந்த நாளிலே மோவாப் இஸ்ரவேலுடைய கையின்கீழ் தாழ்த்தப்பட்டது; அதனாலே தேசம் எண்பது வருடங்கள் அமைதலாக இருந்தது.So Moab was subdued under the hand of Israel that day, and the land had rest for eighty years.

31அவனுக்குப்பின்பு ஆனாத்தின் மகன் சம்கார் எழும்பினான்; அவன் பெலிஸ்தர்களில் அறுநூறு பேரை, கால்நடைகளை நடத்த பயன்படுத்தப்படும் ஒரு கோலால் கொன்றான்; அவனும் இஸ்ரவேலைக் காப்பாற்றினான்.After Ehud came Shamgar son of Anath. And he too saved Israel, striking down six hundred Philistines with an oxgoad.
