1. Jesus Heals a Paralytic

   (Matthew 9:1–8; Luke 5:17–26)

2. 1TNTAfter a feawe dayes he entred into Capernaum agayne and it was noysed that he was in a housse.BSBBSB: A few days later Jesus went back to Capernaum. And when the people heard that He was home,
3. 2TNTAnd anone many gadered to geder in so moche that now there was no roume to receave them: no not so moche as about the dore. And he preached the worde vnto them.BSBBSB: they gathered in such large numbers that there was no more room, not even outside the door, as Jesus spoke the word to them.
4. 3TNTAnd there came vnto him that brought one sicke of the palsie borne of fower men.BSBBSB: Then a paralytic was brought to Him, carried by four men.
5. 4TNTAnd because they coulde not come nye vnto him for preace they vncovered the rofe of the housse where he was. And when they had broken it open they let doune the beed where in the sicke of the palsie laye.BSBBSB: Since they were unable to get to Jesus through the crowd, they uncovered the roof above Him, made an opening, and lowered the paralytic on his mat.
6. 5TNTWhen Iesus sawe their fayth he sayde to the sicke of the palsie sonne thy sinnes are forgeven the.BSBBSB: When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”
7. 6TNTAnd ther were certayne of the scribes sittinge there and reasoninge in their hertes:BSBBSB: But some of the scribes were sitting there and thinking in their hearts,
8. 7TNThow doeth this felowe so blaspheme? Who can forgeve synnes but God only?BSBBSB: “Why does this man speak like this? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
9. 8TNTAnd immediatly when Iesus perceaved in his sprete that they so reasoned in the selves he sayde vnto them: why thynke ye soche thinges in youre hertes?BSBBSB: At once Jesus knew in His spirit that they were thinking this way within themselves. “Why are you thinking these things in your hearts?” He asked.
10. 9TNTWhether is it easyer to saye to the sicke of the palsie thy synnes are forgeven the or to saye aryse take vp thy beed and walke?BSBBSB: “Which is easier: to say to a paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, pick up your mat, and walk’?
11. 10TNTThat ye maye knowe that the sonne of man hath power in erth to forgeve synnes he spake vnto ye sicke of the palsie:BSBBSB: But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins...” He said to the paralytic,
12. 11TNTI saye vnto the aryse and take vp thy beed and get the hense into thyne awne housse.BSBBSB: “I tell you, get up, pick up your mat, and go home.”
13. 12TNTAnd by and by he arose toke vp the beed and went forth before them all: in so moche that they were all amased and glorified God sayinge: we never sawe it on this fassion.BSBBSB: And immediately the man got up, picked up his mat, and walked out in front of them all. As a result, they were all astounded and glorified God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”

14. Jesus Calls Levi

    (Matthew 9:9–13; Luke 5:27–32)

15. 13TNTAnd he went agayne vnto the see and all the people resorted vnto him and he taught them.BSBBSB: Once again Jesus went out beside the sea. All the people came to Him, and He taught them there.
16. 14TNTAnd as Iesus passed by he sawe Levy the sonne of Alphey syt at the receyte of custome and sayde vnto him: folowe me. And he arose and folowed him.BSBBSB: As He was walking along, He saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax booth. “Follow Me,” He told him, and Levi got up and followed Him.
17. 15TNTAnd it came to passe as Iesus sate at meate in his housse many publicans and synners sate at meate also with Iesus and his disciples. For there were many that folowed him.BSBBSB: While Jesus was dining at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with Him and His disciples—for there were many who followed Him.
18. 16TNTAnd when the Scribes and Pharises sawe him eate with publicans and synnere they sayde vnto his disciples: how is it that he eateth and drynketh with publicans and synners?BSBBSB: When the scribes who were Pharisees saw Jesus eating with these people, they asked His disciples, “Why does He eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
19. 17TNTWhen Iesus hearde that he sayde vnto them. The whole have no nede of the phisicion but the sicke. I came not to call the rightwise but the synners to repentaunce.BSBBSB: On hearing this, Jesus told them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

20. Questions about Fasting

    (Matthew 9:14–15; Luke 5:33–35)

21. 18TNTAnd the disciples of Iohn and the Pharises dyd faste: and therfore came and sayde vnto him. Why do the disciples of Iohn and of the Pharises faste and thy disciples fast not.BSBBSB: Now John’s disciples and the Pharisees were often fasting. So people came to Jesus and asked, “Why don’t Your disciples fast like John’s disciples and those of the Pharisees?”
22. 19TNTAnd Iesus sayde vnto them: can the chyldren of a weddinge faste while the brydgrome is with them. As longe as they have the brydgrome with them they cannot faste.BSBBSB: Jesus replied, “How can the guests of the bridegroom fast while He is with them? As long as He is with them, they cannot fast.
23. 20TNTBut the dayes will come when the brydgrome shalbe taken from them and then shall they faste in those dayes.BSBBSB: But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast.

24. The Patches and the Wineskins

    (Matthew 9:16–17; Luke 5:36–39)

25. 21TNTAlso no man soweth a pece of newe cloth vnto an olde garmet for then taketh he awaye the newe pece from the olde and so is the rent worsse.BSBBSB: No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. If he does, the new piece will pull away from the old, and a worse tear will result.
26. 22TNTIn lyke wyse no man poureth newe wyne into olde vessels: for yf he do the newe wyne breaketh the vessels and the wyne runneth out and the vessels are marred. But new wyne must be poured into new vessels.BSBBSB: And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. Instead, new wine is poured into new wineskins.”

27. The Lord of the Sabbath

    (1 Samuel 21:1–7; Matthew 12:1–8; Luke 6:1–5)

28. 23TNTAnd it chaunsed that he wet thorow the corne feldes on the Saboth daye: and his disciples as they went on their waye beganne to plucke the eares of corne.BSBBSB: One Sabbath Jesus was passing through the grainfields, and His disciples began to pick the heads of grain as they walked along.
29. 24TNTAnd the Pharises sayde vnto him: beholde why do they on the Saboth dayes that which is not laufull?BSBBSB: So the Pharisees said to Him, “Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?”
30. 25TNTAnd he sayde to them: have ye never rede what David dyd when he had nede and was anhogred bothe he and they that were with him?BSBBSB: Jesus replied, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need?
31. 26TNTHow he went into the housse of God in the dayes of Abiathar the hye preste and dyd eate the halowed loves which is not laufull to eate but for the prestes only: and gave also to the which were with him?BSBBSB: During the high priesthood of Abiathar, he entered the house of God and ate the consecrated bread, which was lawful only for the priests. And he gave some to his companions as well.”
32. 27TNTAnd he sayde to them: the Saboth daye was made for man and not man for the Saboth daye.BSBBSB: Then Jesus declared, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.
33. 28TNTWherfore the sonne of man is Lorde even of the Saboth daye.BSBBSB: Therefore, the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”
