1 ULB Toàn thể dân sự nhất trí nhóm lại ở khu vực phía trước Cổng Nước. Họ xin thầy thông giáo E-xơ-ra đem theo Sách Luật pháp Môi-se mà Đức Giê-hô-va đã truyền cho Y-sơ-ra-ên. BSB BSB: At that time all the people gathered together in the square before the Water Gate, and they asked Ezra the scribe to bring out the Book of the Law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded for Israel.
2 ULB Ngày một tháng bảy, thầy tế lễ E-xơ-ra đem sách luật pháp ra đọc trước hội chúng, gồm cả nam và nữ, cùng tất cả những ai có thể nghe và hiểu. BSB BSB: On the first day of the seventh month, Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly of men and women and all who could listen and understand.
3 ULB Ông đứng ở sân đối diện Cổng Nước, ông đọc từ sáng sớm đến giữa ngày, trước mặt nam và nữ, cùng những ai có thể nghe và hiểu. Cả dân sự chăm chú nghe lời trong Sách Luật pháp. BSB BSB: So Ezra read it aloud from daybreak until noon as he faced the square before the Water Gate, in front of the men and women and those who could understand. And all the people listened attentively to the Book of the Law.
4 ULB Thầy thông giáo E-xơ-ra đứng trên một bục gỗ cao mà dân chúng đã đóng cho việc đó. Bên phải ông là Ma-ti-thia, Sê-ma, A-na-gia, U-ri, Hinh-kia, và Ma-a-sê-gia; Phê-đa-gia, Mi-sa-ên, Manh-ki-gia, Ha-sum, Hát-ba-đa-na, Xa-cha-ri, và Mê-su-lam đứng bên trái. BSB BSB: Ezra the scribe stood on a high wooden platform built for this occasion. At his right side stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, and at his left were Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum, Hash-baddanah, Zechariah, and Meshullam.
5 ULB E-xơ-ra mở sách ra trước mặt toàn dân, vì ông đứng cao hơn họ, và toàn dân đứng lên khi ông mở quyển sách ấy. BSB BSB: Ezra opened the book in full view of all the people, since he was standing above them all, and as he opened it, all the people stood up.
6 ULB E-xơ-ra tạ ơn Giê-hô-va, Đức Chúa Trời vĩ đại, cả dân sự giơ tay lên và đáp rằng, “Amen! Amen!” Sau đó họ cúi đầu và sấp mặt xuống đất tôn thờ Đức Giê-hô-va. BSB BSB: Then Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God, and with their hands uplifted, all the people said, “Amen, Amen!” Then they bowed down and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground.
7 ULB Giê-sua, Ba-ni, Sê-rê-bia, Gia-min, Ác-cúp, Sa-bê-thai, Hô-đi-a, Ma-a-sê-gia, Kê-li-ta, A-xa-ria, Giô-xa-bát, Ha-nan, Phê-la-gia, và người Lê-vi cũng giúp dân sự hiểu luật pháp khi họ vẫn đứng đó. BSB BSB: The Levites—Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, and Pelaiah—instructed the people in the Law as they stood in their places.
9 ULB Quan thống đốc Nê-hê-mi, thầy tế lễ và thầy thông giáo E-xơ-ra, cùng người Lê-vi, là những người diễn giải cho dân sự bảo họ rằng, “Hôm nay là ngày thánh cho Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời quý vị. Đừng để tang hay khóc lóc.” Vì cả dân sự đều khóc khi nghe đọc lời luật pháp. BSB BSB: Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who were instructing the people said to all of them, “This day is holy to the LORD your God. Do not mourn or weep.” For all the people were weeping as they heard the words of the Law.
10 ULB Nê-hê-mi bảo họ, “Hãy trở về, ăn đồ béo, uống đồ ngọt, và gửi một phần cho những người không sắm sửa gì cả, vì hôm nay là ngày thánh cho Chúa chúng ta. Chớ buồn rầu, vì sự vui vẻ của Đức Giê-hô-va là sức mạnh của chúng ta.” BSB BSB: Then Nehemiah told them, “Go and eat what is rich, drink what is sweet, and send out portions to those who have nothing prepared, since today is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”
11 ULB Vậy người Lê-vi trấn an dân sự, nói rằng, “Xin yên lặng! Vì hôm nay là ngày thánh. Chớ buồn rầu.” BSB BSB: And the Levites calmed all the people, saying, “Be still, since today is holy. Do not grieve.”
12 ULB Toàn dân trở về nhà ăn uống, chia sẻ đồ ăn và hớn hở lắm vì họ đã hiểu những lời được công bố cho họ. BSB BSB: Then all the people began to eat and drink, to send out portions, and to rejoice greatly, because they understood the words that had been made known to them.
13 ULB Ngày thứ nhì, các tộc trưởng trong dân chúng, thầy tế lễ và người Lê-vi, đến gặp thầy thông giáo E-xơ-ra để học hỏi những lời luật pháp. BSB BSB: On the second day of the month, the heads of all the families, along with the priests and Levites, gathered around Ezra the scribe to study the words of the Law.
14 ULB Họ thấy trong luật pháp có chép rằng Đức Giê-hô-va đã truyền cho Môi-se là dân Y-sơ-ra-ên phải ở trong lều vào dịp lễ tháng bảy. BSB BSB: And they found written in the Law, which the LORD had commanded through Moses, that the Israelites were to dwell in booths during the feast of the seventh month,
15 ULB Họ phải rao báo trong tất cả các thành phố và Giê-ru-sa-lem rằng, “Hãy lên vùng cao nguyên, đem về những nhánh cây ô-liu và ô-liu hoang, nhánh cây sim, cây cọ và nhánh cây rậm, đặng làm lều tạm, như đã chép.” BSB BSB: and that they should proclaim this message and spread it throughout their towns and in Jerusalem, saying, “Go out to the hill country and bring back branches of olive, wild olive, myrtle, palm, and other leafy trees, to make booths, as it is written.”
16 ULB Vậy dân sự đi ra và đem về các nhánh cây rồi dựng lều, người thì dựng trên mái nhà mình, người thì dựng trong sân, trong sân nhà Đức Chúa Trời, ở quảng trường của Cổng Nước, và ở quảng trường Cổng Ép-ra-im. BSB BSB: And the people went out, brought back branches, and made booths on their own rooftops, in their courtyards, in the courts of the house of God, and in the squares by the Water Gate and by the Gate of Ephraim.
17 ULB Toàn thể hội chúng gồm những người trở về từ chốn làm phu tù đã dựng lều và ở trong đó. Vì từ ngày của Giô-suê con trai Nun cho đến hôm đó, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên chưa từng tổ chức lễ này. Dân sự đều rất hớn hở. BSB BSB: The whole assembly that had returned from exile made booths and lived in them. From the days of Joshua son of Nun until that day, the Israelites had not celebrated like this. And there was great rejoicing.
18 ULB Bên cạnh đó, mỗi ngày, từ ngày đầu đến ngày cuối, E-xơ-ra đọc Sách Luật pháp Đức Chúa Trời. Họ giữ lễ trong bảy ngày, và ngày thứ tám là ngày bế mạc trọng thể, theo quy định. BSB BSB: Day after day, from the first day to the last, Ezra read from the Book of the Law of God. The Israelites kept the feast for seven days, and on the eighth day they held an assembly, according to the ordinance.
