Roles in Worship 1 WBS Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. BSB BSB: You are to imitate me, just as I imitate Christ.
WBS Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you. BSB BSB: Now I commend you for remembering me in everything and for maintaining the traditions, just as I passed them on to you.
WBS But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. BSB BSB: But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.
WBS Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoreth his head. BSB BSB: Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head.
WBS For if the woman is not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it is a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaved, let her be covered. BSB BSB: If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off. And if it is shameful for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head.
WBS For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. BSB BSB: A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.
WBS For the man is not from the woman, but the woman from the man. BSB BSB: For man did not come from woman, but woman from man.
WBS Neither was the man created for the woman, but the woman for the man. BSB BSB: Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.
WBS For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head, because of the angels. BSB BSB: For this reason a woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head, because of the angels.
WBS Nevertheless, neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man in the Lord. BSB BSB: In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman.
WBS For as the woman is from the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things from God. BSB BSB: For just as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God.
WBS Judge in yourselves: Is it comely that a woman should pray to God uncovered? BSB BSB: Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?
WBS Doth not even nature itself teach you, that if a man hath long hair, it is a shame to him? BSB BSB: Doesn’t nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him,
WBS But if a woman hath long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering. BSB BSB: but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering.
WBS But if any man seemeth to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God. BSB BSB: If anyone is inclined to dispute this, we have no other practice, nor do the churches of God.
Sharing in the Lord’s Supper (Matthew 26:20–30; Mark 14:17–26; Luke 22:14–23)
WBS Now in this that I declare to you , I praise you not, that ye come together not for the better, but for the worse. BSB BSB: In the following instructions I have no praise to offer, because your gatherings do more harm than good.
WBS For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there are divisions among you; and I partly believe it. BSB BSB: First of all, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it.
WBS For there must be also heresies among you, that they who are approved may be made manifest among you. BSB BSB: And indeed, there must be differences among you to show which of you are approved.
WBS When therefore ye come together in one place, this is not to eat the Lord's supper. BSB BSB: Now then, when you come together, it is not the Lord’s Supper you eat.
WBS For in eating every one taketh before another his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken. BSB BSB: For as you eat, each of you goes ahead without sharing his meal. While one remains hungry, another gets drunk.
WBS What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not. BSB BSB: Don’t you have your own homes in which to eat and drink? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What can I say to you? Shall I praise you for this? No, I will not!
WBS For I have received from the Lord, that which also I delivered to you, That the Lord Jesus, the same night in which he was betrayed, took bread: BSB BSB: For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night He was betrayed, took bread,
WBS And when he had given thanks, he broke it , and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. BSB BSB: and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
WBS After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as often as ye drink it , in remembrance of me. BSB BSB: In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”
WBS For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do show the Lord's death till he shall come. BSB BSB: For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.
WBS Wherefore, whoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. BSB BSB: Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.
WBS But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. BSB BSB: Each one must examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup.
WBS For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh condemnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. BSB BSB: For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body eats and drinks judgment on himself.
WBS For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. BSB BSB: That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.
WBS For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. BSB BSB: Now if we judged ourselves properly, we would not come under judgment.
WBS But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world. BSB BSB: But when we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world.
WBS Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another. BSB BSB: So, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for one another.
WBS And if any man hungereth, let him eat at home; that ye come not together to condemnation. And the rest will I set in order when I come. BSB BSB: If anyone is hungry, he should eat at home, so that when you come together it will not result in judgment. And when I come, I will give instructions about the remaining matters.
