Spiritual Gifts 1 WBS Now concerning spiritual gifts , brethren, I would not have you ignorant. BSB BSB: Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed.
WBS Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, even as ye were led. BSB BSB: You know that when you were pagans, you were influenced and led astray to mute idols.
WBS Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God, calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Spirit. BSB BSB: Therefore I inform you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
WBS Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. BSB BSB: There are different gifts, but the same Spirit.
WBS And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. BSB BSB: There are different ministries, but the same Lord.
WBS And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God who worketh all in all. BSB BSB: There are different ways of working, but the same God works all things in all people.
WBS But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man for profit. BSB BSB: Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
WBS To another, faith by the same Spirit; to another, the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; BSB BSB: to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,
WBS To another, the working of miracles; to another, prophecy; to another, discerning of spirits; to another, divers kinds of languages; to another, the interpretation of languages: BSB BSB: to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in various tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.
WBS But all these worketh that one and the same Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. BSB BSB: All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, who apportions them to each one as He determines.
The Body of Christ 13 WBS For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Gentiles, whether bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. BSB BSB: For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free, and we were all given one Spirit to drink.
WBS For the body is not one member, but many. BSB BSB: For the body does not consist of one part, but of many.
WBS If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? BSB BSB: If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body.
WBS And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? BSB BSB: And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body.
WBS If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? BSB BSB: If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?
WBS But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. BSB BSB: But in fact, God has arranged the members of the body, every one of them, according to His design.
WBS And if they were all one member, where were the body? BSB BSB: If they were all one part, where would the body be?
WBS But now are they many members, yet but one body. BSB BSB: As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
WBS And the eye cannot say to the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. BSB BSB: The eye cannot say to the hand, “I do not need you.” Nor can the head say to the feet, “I do not need you.”
WBS Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary: BSB BSB: On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable,
WBS And those members of the body, which we think to be less honorable, upon these we bestow more abundant honor; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness. BSB BSB: and the parts we consider less honorable, we treat with greater honor. And our unpresentable parts are treated with special modesty,
WBS For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honor to that part which lacked: BSB BSB: whereas our presentable parts have no such need. But God has composed the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it,
WBS That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. BSB BSB: so that there should be no division in the body, but that its members should have mutual concern for one another.
WBS And thus if one member suffers all the members suffer with it; or, if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it. BSB BSB: If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.
The Greater Gifts 27 WBS Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. BSB BSB: Now you are the body of Christ, and each of you is a member of it.
WBS And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondly prophets, thirdly teachers, next miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of languages. BSB BSB: And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, and those with gifts of healing, helping, administration, and various tongues.
WBS Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?BSB BSB: Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles?
WBS Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak in languages? do all interpret? BSB BSB: Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret?
WBS But covet earnestly the best gifts. And yet I show to you a more excellent way. BSB BSB: But eagerly desire the greater gifts. And now I will show you the most excellent way.
