Love 1 WBS Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. BSB BSB: If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a ringing gong or a clanging cymbal.
WBS And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. BSB BSB: If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have absolute faith so as to move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
WBS And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor , and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. BSB BSB: If I give all I possess to the poor and exult in the surrender of my body, but have not love, I gain nothing.
WBS Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, BSB BSB: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
WBS Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not its own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; BSB BSB: It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no account of wrongs.
WBS Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; BSB BSB: Love takes no pleasure in evil, but rejoices in the truth.
WBS Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. BSB BSB: It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
WBS Charity never faileth: but whether there are prophecies, they shall fail; whether there are languages, they shall cease; whether there is knowledge, it shall vanish away. BSB BSB: Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be restrained; where there is knowledge, it will be dismissed.
WBS For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. BSB BSB: For we know in part and we prophesy in part,
WBS But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. BSB BSB: but when the perfect comes, the partial passes away.
WBS When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. BSB BSB: When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I set aside childish ways.
WBS For now we see through a glass darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. BSB BSB: Now we see but a dim reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
WBS And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. BSB BSB: And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of these is love.
