Children and Parents (Colossians 3:18–21)
WBS Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. BSB BSB: Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
WBS Honor thy father and mother (which is the first commandment with promise) BSB BSB: “Honor your father and mother” (which is the first commandment with a promise),
WBS That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. BSB BSB: “that it may go well with you and that you may have a long life on the earth.”
WBS And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. BSB BSB: Fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath; instead, bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
Serving with Honor (Colossians 3:22–25; 1 Timothy 6:1–2)
WBS Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as to Christ; BSB BSB: Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear and sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ.
WBS Not with eye-service, as men-pleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; BSB BSB: And do this not only to please them while they are watching, but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart.
WBS With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: BSB BSB: Serve with good will, as to the Lord and not to men,
WBS Knowing that whatever good thing any man doeth, the same will he receive from the Lord, whether he be bond or free. BSB BSB: because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free.
The Full Armor of God 10 WBS Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. BSB BSB: Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.
WBS Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. BSB BSB: Put on the full armor of God, so that you can make your stand against the devil’s schemes.
WBS For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places . BSB BSB: For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this world’s darkness, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
WBS Wherefore take to you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. BSB BSB: Therefore take up the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you will be able to stand your ground, and having done everything, to stand.
WBS Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breast-plate of righteousness; BSB BSB: Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness arrayed,
WBS And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; BSB BSB: and with your feet fitted with the readiness of the gospel of peace.
WBS Above all, taking the shield of faith, with which ye will be able to extinguish all the fiery darts of the wicked. BSB BSB: In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
WBS And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: BSB BSB: And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
WBS Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching for this purpose with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; BSB BSB: Pray in the Spirit at all times, with every kind of prayer and petition. To this end, stay alert with all perseverance in your prayers for all the saints.
WBS And for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, BSB BSB: Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will boldly make known the mystery of the gospel,
WBS For which I am an embassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. BSB BSB: for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it fearlessly, as I should.
Final Greetings (Philippians 4:21–23; 2 Timothy 4:19–22)
WBS But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, will make known to you all things: BSB BSB: Tychicus, the beloved brother and faithful servant in the Lord, will tell you everything, so that you also may know about me and what I am doing.
WBS Whom I have sent to you for the same purpose, that ye may know our affairs, and that he may comfort your hearts. BSB BSB: I have sent him to you for this very purpose, that you may know about us, and that he may encourage your hearts.
