Imitators of God 1 WBS Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; BSB BSB: Be imitators of God, therefore, as beloved children,
WBS And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savor. BSB BSB: and walk in love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant sacrificial offering to God.
WBS But lewdness and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; BSB BSB: But among you, as is proper among the saints, there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed.
WBS Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. BSB BSB: Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk, or crude joking, which are out of character, but rather thanksgiving.
WBS For this ye know, that no lewd, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. BSB BSB: For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure, or greedy person (that is, an idolater) has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
WBS Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. BSB BSB: Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things the wrath of God is coming on the sons of disobedience.
WBS Be ye not therefore partakers with them. BSB BSB: Therefore do not be partakers with them.
Children of Light 8 WBS For ye were sometime darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light; BSB BSB: For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light,
WBS (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, and righteousness, and truth;) BSB BSB: for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth.
WBS Proving what is acceptable to the Lord. BSB BSB: Test and prove what pleases the Lord.
WBS And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them . BSB BSB: Have no fellowship with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.
WBS For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. BSB BSB: For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.
WBS But all things that are reproved, are made manifest by the light: for whatever doth make manifest is light. BSB BSB: But everything exposed by the light becomes visible, for everything that is illuminated becomes a light itself.
WBS Wherefore he saith, Awake, thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ will give thee light. BSB BSB: So it is said: “Wake up, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”
WBS See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, BSB BSB: Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk, not as unwise but as wise,
WBS Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. BSB BSB: redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
WBS Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is . BSB BSB: Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.
WBS And be not drunk with wine, in which is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; BSB BSB: Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to reckless indiscretion. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.
WBS Speaking to yourselves in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, BSB BSB: Speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your hearts to the Lord,
WBS Giving thanks always for all things to God and the Father, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; BSB BSB: always giving thanks to God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Wives and Husbands (Song of Solomon 1:1–17; 1 Peter 3:1–7)
WBS Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. BSB BSB: Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
WBS Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands, as to the Lord. BSB BSB: Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.
WBS For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the Savior of the body. BSB BSB: For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, His body, of which He is the Savior.
WBS Therefore as the church is subject to Christ, so let wives be to their own husbands in every thing. BSB BSB: Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
WBS That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, BSB BSB: to sanctify her, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,
WBS That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. BSB BSB: and to present her to Himself as a glorious church, without stain or wrinkle or any such blemish, but holy and blameless.
WBS So ought men to love their wives, as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife, loveth himself. BSB BSB: In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
WBS For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: BSB BSB: Indeed, no one ever hated his own body, but he nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church.
WBS For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. BSB BSB: For we are members of His body.
WBS For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined to his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. BSB BSB: “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”
WBS This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. BSB BSB: This mystery is profound, but I am speaking about Christ and the church.
WBS Nevertheless, let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself: and the wife see that she reverence her husband. BSB BSB: Nevertheless, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
