Setting Up the Tabernacle (Acts 7:44–47; Hebrews 9:1–10)
1 WBS And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, BSB BSB: Then the LORD said to Moses,
2 WBS On the first day of the first month shalt thou set up the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation. BSB BSB: “On the first day of the first month you are to set up the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting.
3 WBS And thou shalt put in it the ark of the testimony, and cover the ark with the vail. BSB BSB: Put the ark of the Testimony in it and screen off the ark with the veil.
4 WBS And thou shalt bring in the table, and set in order the things that are to be set in order upon it; and thou shalt bring in the candlestick, and light its lamps. BSB BSB: Then bring in the table and set out its arrangement; bring in the lampstand as well, and set up its lamps.
5 WBS And thou shalt set the altar of gold for the incense before the ark of the testimony, and put the hanging of the door to the tabernacle. BSB BSB: Place the gold altar of incense in front of the ark of the Testimony, and hang the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle.
6 WBS And thou shalt set the altar of the, burnt-offering before the door of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation. BSB BSB: Place the altar of burnt offering in front of the entrance to the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting.
7 WBS And thou shalt set the laver between the tent of the congregation and the altar, and shalt put water in it. BSB BSB: And place the basin between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and put water in it.
8 WBS And thou shalt set up the court round about, and hang up the hanging at the court-gate. BSB BSB: Set up the surrounding courtyard and hang the curtain for the entrance to the courtyard.
9 WBS And thou shalt take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle, and all that is in it, and shalt hallow it, and all its vessels: and it shall be holy. BSB BSB: Take the anointing oil and anoint the tabernacle and everything in it; consecrate it along with all its furnishings, and it shall be holy.
10 WBS And thou shalt anoint the altar of the burnt-offering and all its vessels, and sanctify the altar: and it shall be an altar most holy. BSB BSB: Anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils; consecrate the altar, and it shall be most holy.
11 WBS And thou shalt anoint the laver and its foot, and sanctify it. BSB BSB: Anoint the basin and its stand and consecrate them.
12 WBS And thou shalt bring Aaron and his sons to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and wash them with water. BSB BSB: Then bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and wash them with water.
13 WBS And thou shalt put upon Aaron the holy garments, and anoint him, and sanctify him; that he may minister to me in the priest's office. BSB BSB: And you are to clothe Aaron with the holy garments, anoint him, and consecrate him, so that he may serve Me as a priest.
14 WBS And thou shalt bring his sons, and clothe them with coats: BSB BSB: Bring his sons forward and clothe them with tunics.
15 WBS And thou shalt anoint them, as thou didst anoint their father, that they may minister to me in the priest's office: for their anointing shall surely be an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations. BSB BSB: Anoint them just as you anointed their father, so that they may also serve Me as priests. Their anointing will qualify them for a permanent priesthood throughout their generations.”
16 WBS Thus did Moses; according to all that the LORD commanded him, so did he. BSB BSB: Moses did everything just as the LORD had commanded him.
17 WBS And it came to pass in the first month, in the second year, on the first day of the month, that the tabernacle was reared up. BSB BSB: So the tabernacle was set up on the first day of the first month of the second year.
18 WBS And Moses reared up the tabernacle, and fastened its sockets, and set up its boards, and put in its bars, and reared up its pillars. BSB BSB: When Moses set up the tabernacle, he laid its bases, positioned its frames, inserted its crossbars, and set up its posts.
19 WBS And he spread abroad the tent over the tabernacle, and put the covering of the tent above upon it; as the LORD commanded Moses. BSB BSB: Then he spread the tent over the tabernacle and put the covering over the tent, just as the LORD had commanded him.
20 WBS And he took and put the testimony into the ark, and set the staffs on the ark, and put the mercy-seat above upon the ark: BSB BSB: Moses took the Testimony and placed it in the ark, attaching the poles to the ark; and he set the mercy seat atop the ark.
21 WBS And he brought the ark into the tabernacle, and set up the vail of the covering, and covered the ark of the testimony; as the LORD commanded Moses. BSB BSB: Then he brought the ark into the tabernacle, put up the veil for the screen, and shielded off the ark of the Testimony, just as the LORD had commanded him.
22 WBS And he put the table in the tent of the congregation, upon the side of the tabernacle northward, without the vail. BSB BSB: Moses placed the table in the Tent of Meeting on the north side of the tabernacle, outside the veil.
23 WBS And he set the bread in order upon it before the LORD; as the LORD had commanded Moses. BSB BSB: He arranged the bread on it before the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded him.
24 WBS And he put the candlestick in the tent of the congregation, over against the table, on the side of the tabernacle southward. BSB BSB: He also placed the lampstand in the Tent of Meeting opposite the table on the south side of the tabernacle
25 WBS And he lighted the lamps before the LORD, as the LORD commanded Moses. BSB BSB: and set up the lamps before the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded him.
26 WBS And he put the golden altar in the tent of the congregation, before the vail: BSB BSB: Moses placed the gold altar in the Tent of Meeting, in front of the veil,
27 WBS And he burnt sweet incense on it; as the LORD commanded Moses. BSB BSB: and he burned fragrant incense on it, just as the LORD had commanded him.
28 WBS And he set up the hanging at the door of the tabernacle. BSB BSB: Then he put up the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle.
29 WBS And he put the altar of burnt-offering by the door of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation, and offered upon it the burnt-offering, and the meat-offering; as the LORD commanded Moses. BSB BSB: He placed the altar of burnt offering near the entrance to the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting, and offered on it the burnt offering and the grain offering, just as the LORD had commanded him.
30 WBS And he set the laver between the tent of the congregation and the altar, and put water there, to wash with . BSB BSB: He placed the basin between the Tent of Meeting and the altar and put water in it for washing;
31 WBS And Moses, and Aaron, and his sons, washed their hands and their feet thereat: BSB BSB: and from it Moses, Aaron, and his sons washed their hands and feet.
32 WBS When they went into the tent of the congregation, and when they came near to the altar, they washed; as the LORD commanded Moses. BSB BSB: They washed whenever they entered the Tent of Meeting or approached the altar, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
33 WBS And he reared up the court round about the tabernacle and the altar, and set up the hanging of the court-gate: so Moses finished the work. BSB BSB: And Moses set up the courtyard around the tabernacle and the altar, and he hung the curtain for the entrance to the courtyard. So Moses finished the work.
The Cloud and the Glory (Numbers 9:15–23)
34 WBS Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. BSB BSB: Then the cloud covered the Tent of Meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
35 WBS And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode upon it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. BSB BSB: Moses was unable to enter the Tent of Meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
36 WBS And when the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Israel went onward in all their journeys: BSB BSB: Whenever the cloud was lifted from above the tabernacle, the Israelites would set out through all the stages of their journey.
37 WBS But if the cloud was not taken up, then they journeyed not till the day that it was taken up. BSB BSB: If the cloud was not lifted, they would not set out until the day it was taken up.
38 WBS For the cloud of the LORD was upon the tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys. BSB BSB: For the cloud of the LORD was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel through all their journeys.
