The Creation (John 1:1–5; Hebrews 11:1–3)
2 WBS And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep: and the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. BSB BSB: Now the earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.
The First Day 3 WBS And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. BSB BSB: And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
4 WBS And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. BSB BSB: And God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness.
5 WBS And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night: and the evening and the morning were the first day. BSB BSB: God called the light “day,” and the darkness He called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.
The Second Day 6 WBS And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. BSB BSB: And God said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters, to separate the waters from the waters.”
7 WBS And God made the firmament; and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. BSB BSB: So God made the expanse and separated the waters beneath it from the waters above. And it was so.
8 WBS And God called the firmament Heaven: and the evening and the morning were the second day. BSB BSB: God called the expanse “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.
The Third Day 9 WBS And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. BSB BSB: And God said, “Let the waters under the sky be gathered into one place, so that the dry land may appear.” And it was so.
10 WBS And God called the dry land Earth, and the collection of waters he called Seas: and God saw that it was good. BSB BSB: God called the dry land “earth,” and the gathering of waters He called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.
11 WBS And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit-tree yielding fruit after its kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. BSB BSB: Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth vegetation: seed-bearing plants and fruit trees, each bearing fruit with seed according to its kind.” And it was so.
12 WBS And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after its kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after its kind: and God saw that it was good. BSB BSB: The earth produced vegetation: seed-bearing plants according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
13 WBS And the evening and the morning were the third day. BSB BSB: And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.
The Fourth Day 15 WBS And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven, to give light upon the earth: and it was so. BSB BSB: And let them serve as lights in the expanse of the sky to shine upon the earth.” And it was so.
16 WBS And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. BSB BSB: God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night. And He made the stars as well.
17 WBS And God set them in the firmament of the heaven, to give light upon the earth. BSB BSB: God set these lights in the expanse of the sky to shine upon the earth,
18 WBS And to rule over the day, and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. BSB BSB: to preside over the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.
19 WBS And the evening and the morning were the fourth day. BSB BSB: And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.
The Fifth Day 21 WBS And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. BSB BSB: So God created the great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters teemed according to their kinds, and every winged bird after its kind. And God saw that it was good.
22 WBS And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. BSB BSB: Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters of the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.”
23 WBS And the evening and the morning were the fifth day. BSB BSB: And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.
The Sixth Day 25 WBS And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every animal that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. BSB BSB: God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and everything that crawls upon the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
26 WBS And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping animal that creepeth upon the earth. BSB BSB: Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness, to rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, and over all the earth itself and every creature that crawls upon it.” 28 WBS And God blessed them, and God said to them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living animal that moveth upon the earth. BSB BSB: God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and every creature that crawls upon the earth.”
30 WBS And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every animal that creepeth upon the earth, in which is life, I have given every green herb for food: and it was so. BSB BSB: And to every beast of the earth and every bird of the air and every creature that crawls upon the earth—everything that has the breath of life in it—I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so.
