The Seventh Day (Exodus 16:22–30; Hebrews 4:1–11)
WBS Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. BSB BSB: Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.
WBS And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. BSB BSB: And by the seventh day God had finished the work He had been doing; so on that day He rested from all His work.
WBS And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. BSB BSB: Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because on that day He rested from all the work of creation that He had accomplished.
Man and Woman in the Garden 5 WBS And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. BSB BSB: Now no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth, nor had any plant of the field sprouted, for the LORD God had not yet sent rain upon the earth, and there was no man to cultivate the ground.
WBS But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. BSB BSB: But springs welled up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground.
WBS And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. BSB BSB: And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, where He placed the man He had formed.
WBS And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. BSB BSB: Out of the ground the LORD God gave growth to every tree that is pleasing to the eye and good for food. And in the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
WBS And a river went out of Eden to water the garden: and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads. BSB BSB: Now a river flowed out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it branched into four headwaters:
WBS The name of the first is Pison, which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; BSB BSB: The name of the first river is the Pishon; it winds through the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold.
WBS And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx-stone. BSB BSB: And the gold of that land is pure, and bdellium and onyx are found there.
WBS And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same that compasseth the whole land of Cush. BSB BSB: The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the whole land of Cush.
WBS And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: which floweth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates. BSB BSB: The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.
WBS And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden, to dress it, and to keep it. BSB BSB: Then the LORD God took the man and placed him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it.
WBS But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest of it thou shalt surely die. BSB BSB: but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; for in the day that you eat of it, you will surely die.”
WBS And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowls of the air, and to every beast of the field: but for Adam there was not found a help meet for him. BSB BSB: The man gave names to all the livestock, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found.
WBS And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept; and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. BSB BSB: So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep, and while he slept, He took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the area with flesh.
WBS And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, he made woman, and brought her to the man. BSB BSB: And from the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man, He made a woman and brought her to him.
WBS And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of man. BSB BSB: And the man said: “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for out of man she was taken.”
WBS And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. BSB BSB: And the man and his wife were both naked, and they were not ashamed.
