Jesus the True Vine (Isaiah 27:1–13)
WBS I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. BSB BSB: “I am the true vine, and My Father is the keeper of the vineyard.
WBS Every branch in me that beareth not fruit, he taketh away; and every branch that beareth fruit, he cleaneth it, that it my bring forth more fruit. BSB BSB: He cuts off every branch in Me that bears no fruit, and every branch that does bear fruit, He prunes to make it even more fruitful.
WBS Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken to you. BSB BSB: You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.
WBS Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine: no more can ye, except ye abide in me. BSB BSB: Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me.
WBS I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. BSB BSB: I am the vine and you are the branches. The one who remains in Me, and I in him, will bear much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing.
WBS If a man abideth not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered: and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. BSB BSB: If anyone does not remain in Me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers. Such branches are gathered up, thrown into the fire, and burned.
WBS If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye may ask what ye will, and it shall be done to you. BSB BSB: If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
WBS In this is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. BSB BSB: This is to My Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, proving yourselves to be My disciples.
No Greater Love 9 WBS As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. BSB BSB: As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you. Remain in My love.
WBS If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. BSB BSB: If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and remain in His love.
WBS These things have I spoken to you, that my joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. BSB BSB: I have told you these things so that My joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.
WBS This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. BSB BSB: This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
WBS Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. BSB BSB: Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
WBS Ye are my friends, if ye do whatever I command you. BSB BSB: You are My friends if you do what I command you.
WBS Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard from my Father, I have made known to you. BSB BSB: No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not understand what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because everything I have learned from My Father I have made known to you.
WBS Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. BSB BSB: You did not choose Me, but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will remain—so that whatever you ask the Father in My name, He will give you.
WBS These things I command you, that ye love one another. BSB BSB: This is My command to you: Love one another.
The Hatred of the World 18 WBS If the world hateth you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. BSB BSB: If the world hates you, understand that it hated Me first.
WBS If ye were of the world, the world would love its own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. BSB BSB: If you were of the world, it would love you as its own. Instead, the world hates you, because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world.
WBS Remember the word that I said to you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you: if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. BSB BSB: Remember the word that I spoke to you: ‘No servant is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will persecute you as well; if they kept My word, they will keep yours as well.
WBS But all these things will they do to you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me. BSB BSB: But they will treat you like this because of My name, since they do not know the One who sent Me.
WBS If I had not come and spoken to them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin. BSB BSB: If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin. Now, however, they have no excuse for their sin.
WBS He that hateth me, hateth my Father also. BSB BSB: Whoever hates Me hates My Father as well.
WBS If I had not done among them the works which no other man hath done, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen, and hated both me and my Father. BSB BSB: If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have seen and hated both Me and My Father.
WBS But this cometh to pass , that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause. BSB BSB: But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: ‘They hated Me without reason.’
WBS And ye also shall bear testimony, because ye have been with me from the beginning. BSB BSB: And you also must testify, because you have been with Me from the beginning.
