Moses Consecrates Aaron and His Sons (Exodus 29:1–9)
WBS And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, BSB BSB: Then the LORD said to Moses,
WBS Take Aaron and his sons with him, and the garments, and the anointing oil, and a bullock for the sin-offering, and two rams, and a basket of unleavened bread; BSB BSB: “Take Aaron and his sons, their garments, the anointing oil, the bull of the sin offering, the two rams, and the basket of unleavened bread,
WBS And assemble thou all the congregation to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. BSB BSB: and assemble the whole congregation at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.”
WBS And Moses did as the LORD commanded him; and the assembly was gathered to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. BSB BSB: So Moses did as the LORD had commanded him, and the assembly gathered at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
WBS And Moses said to the congregation, This is the thing which the LORD commanded to be done. BSB BSB: And Moses said to them, “This is what the LORD has commanded to be done.”
WBS And Moses brought Aaron and his sons, and washed them with water. BSB BSB: Then Moses presented Aaron and his sons and washed them with water.
WBS And he put upon him the coat, and girded him with the girdle, and clothed him with the robe, and put the ephod upon him, and he girded him with the curious girdle of the ephod, and bound it to him with it. BSB BSB: He put the tunic on Aaron, tied the sash around him, clothed him with the robe, and put the ephod on him. He tied the woven band of the ephod around him and fastened it to him.
WBS And he put the breast-plate upon him: also he put in the breast-plate the Urim and the Thummim. BSB BSB: Then he put the breastpiece on him and placed the Urim and Thummim in the breastpiece.
WBS And he put the miter upon his head; also upon the miter, even upon his front, did he put the golden plate, the holy crown; as the LORD commanded Moses. BSB BSB: Moses also put the turban on Aaron’s head and set the gold plate, the holy diadem, on the front of the turban, as the LORD had commanded him.
WBS And Moses took the anointing oil, and anointed the tabernacle and all that was in it, and sanctified them. BSB BSB: Next, Moses took the anointing oil and anointed the tabernacle and everything in it; and so he consecrated them.
WBS And he sprinkled part of it upon the altar seven times, and anointed the altar and all its vessels, both the laver and its foot, to sanctify them. BSB BSB: He sprinkled some of the oil on the altar seven times, anointing the altar and all its utensils, and the basin with its stand, to consecrate them.
WBS And he poured of the anointing oil upon Aaron's head, and anointed him, to sanctify him. BSB BSB: He also poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron’s head and anointed him to consecrate him.
WBS And Moses brought Aaron's sons, and put coats upon them, and girded them with girdles, and put bonnets upon them; as the LORD commanded Moses. BSB BSB: Then Moses presented Aaron’s sons, put tunics on them, wrapped sashes around them, and tied headbands on them, just as the LORD had commanded him.
The Priests’ Sin Offering 14 WBS And he brought the bullock for the sin-offering: and Aaron and his sons laid their hands upon the head of the bullock for the sin-offering. BSB BSB: Moses then brought the bull near for the sin offering, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on its head.
WBS And he slew it ; and Moses took the blood, and put it upon the horns of the altar round about with his finger, and purified the altar, and poured the blood at the bottom of the altar, and sanctified it, to make reconciliation upon it. BSB BSB: Moses slaughtered the bull, took some of the blood, and applied it with his finger to all four horns of the altar, purifying the altar. He poured out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar and consecrated it so that atonement could be made on it.
WBS And he took all the fat that was upon the inwards, and the caul above the liver, and the two kidneys, and their fat, and Moses burned it upon the altar. BSB BSB: Moses also took all the fat that was on the entrails, the lobe of the liver, and both kidneys and their fat, and burned it all on the altar.
WBS But the bullock, and his hide, his flesh, and his dung, he burnt with fire without the camp; as the LORD commanded Moses. BSB BSB: But the bull with its hide, flesh, and dung he burned outside the camp, as the LORD had commanded him.
The Priests’ Burnt Offering 18 WBS And he brought the ram for the burnt-offering: and Aaron and his sons laid their hands upon the head of the ram. BSB BSB: Then Moses presented the ram for the burnt offering, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on its head.
WBS And he killed it ; and Moses sprinkled the blood upon the altar round about. BSB BSB: Moses slaughtered the ram and splattered the blood on all sides of the altar.
WBS And he cut the ram into pieces; and Moses burnt the head, and the pieces, and the fat. BSB BSB: He cut the ram into pieces and burned the head, the pieces, and the fat.
WBS And he washed the inwards and the legs in water; and Moses burnt the whole ram upon the altar: it was a burnt-sacrifice for a sweet savor, and an offering made by fire to the LORD; as the LORD commanded Moses. BSB BSB: He washed the entrails and legs with water and burned the entire ram on the altar as a burnt offering, a pleasing aroma, a food offering to the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
The Ram of Ordination (Exodus 29:10–30)
WBS And he brought the other ram, the ram of consecration: and Aaron and his sons laid their hands upon the head of the ram. BSB BSB: After that, Moses presented the other ram, the ram of ordination, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on its head.
WBS And he slew it ; and Moses took of its blood, and put it upon the tip of Aaron's right ear, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot. BSB BSB: Moses slaughtered the ram and took some of its blood and put it on Aaron’s right earlobe, on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot.
WBS And he brought Aaron's sons, and Moses put of the blood upon the tip of their right ear, and upon the thumbs of their right hands, and upon the great toes of their right feet: and Moses sprinkled the blood upon the altar round about. BSB BSB: Moses also presented Aaron’s sons and put some of the blood on their right earlobes, on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the big toes of their right feet. Then he splattered the blood on all sides of the altar.
WBS And he took the fat, and the rump, and all the fat that was upon the inwards, and the caul above the liver, and the two kidneys, and their fat, and the right shoulder: BSB BSB: And Moses took the fat—the fat tail, all the fat that was on the entrails, the lobe of the liver, and both kidneys with their fat—as well as the right thigh.
WBS And out of the basket of unleavened bread, that was before the LORD, he took one unleavened cake, and a cake of oiled bread, and one wafer, and put them on the fat, and upon the right shoulder: BSB BSB: And from the basket of unleavened bread that was before the LORD, he took one cake of unleavened bread, one cake of bread made with oil, and one wafer, and he placed them on the fat portions and on the right thigh.
WBS And he put all upon Aaron's hands, and upon his sons' hands, and waved them for a wave-offering before the LORD. BSB BSB: He put all these in the hands of Aaron and his sons and waved them before the LORD as a wave offering.
WBS And Moses took them from off their hands, and burnt them on the altar upon the burnt-offering: they were consecrations for a sweet savor: it is an offering made by fire to the LORD. BSB BSB: Then Moses took these from their hands and burned them on the altar with the burnt offering. This was an ordination offering, a pleasing aroma, a food offering to the LORD.
WBS And Moses took the breast, and waved it for a wave-offering before the LORD: for of the ram of consecration it was Moses's part; as the LORD commanded Moses. BSB BSB: He also took the breast—Moses’ portion of the ram of ordination—and waved it before the LORD as a wave offering, as the LORD had commanded him.
WBS And Moses took of the anointing oil, and of the blood which was upon the altar, and sprinkled it upon Aaron, and upon his garments, and upon his sons, and upon his sons' garments with him; and sanctified Aaron, and his garments, and his sons, and his sons' garments with him. BSB BSB: Next, Moses took some of the anointing oil and some of the blood that was on the altar and sprinkled them on Aaron and his garments, and on his sons and their garments. So he consecrated Aaron and his garments, as well as Aaron’s sons and their garments.
WBS And Moses said to Aaron and to his sons, Boil the flesh at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation; and there eat it with the bread that is in the basket of consecrations, as I commanded, saying, Aaron and his sons shall eat it. BSB BSB: And Moses said to Aaron and his sons, “Boil the meat at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and eat it there with the bread that is in the basket of ordination offerings, as I commanded, saying, ‘Aaron and his sons are to eat it.’
WBS And that which remaineth of the flesh and of the bread shall ye burn with fire. BSB BSB: Then you must burn up the remainder of the meat and bread.
WBS And ye shall not go out of the door of the tabernacle of the congregation in seven days, until the days of your consecration shall be at an end: for seven days shall he consecrate you. BSB BSB: You must not go outside the entrance to the Tent of Meeting for seven days, until the days of your ordination are complete; for it will take seven days to ordain you.
WBS As he hath done this day, so the LORD hath commanded to do, to make an atonement for you. BSB BSB: What has been done today has been commanded by the LORD in order to make atonement on your behalf.
WBS Therefore shall ye abide at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation day and night seven days, and keep the charge of the LORD, that ye die not: for so I am commanded. BSB BSB: You must remain at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting day and night for seven days and keep the LORD’s charge so that you will not die, for this is what I have been commanded.”
WBS So Aaron and his sons did all things which the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses. BSB BSB: So Aaron and his sons did everything the LORD had commanded through Moses.
